Judy Blume Birthday: February 12th Judy Blume is a well known author whose series is a favorite among all ages. However, when she was a child she didn’t always want to be an author. She always loved to read and would make up stories in her head, but she never know she could make writing a career. It wasn’t until she had children of her own that her love of storytelling pushed her to begin writing. In 1969 she wrote her first book, a children’s book titled The One in the Middle is the Green Kangaroo. Following the release of her first book, she began writing with more intensity and produced more than 13 different titles. She has written picture books as well as chapter books for children, and she has even written chapter books for adults. Some of her well known books include Tales of a Fourth Grade Nothing and Otherwise Known as Sheila the Great. Her writing was won her numerous awards inclding the American Library Association honoring her with the Margaret A. Edwards Award for Lifetime Achievement in 1996. She was also included among the Living Legents in the Writer category by the in 2000 for her work for cultural heritage. Additionally, she likes to help and give back to schools and children, so she also is the founder and trustree of The Kids Fund, a charitable and educational foundation.
