The South African College of Music, founded 108 years ago, offers world-class performances of African and Western music, jazz, opera and technology-inspired compositions on a weekly basis throughout the academic year on Tuesday evenings, with occasional concerts on other nights of the week. Please note the earlier starting time of 19H30, and that both our weekly daytime concerts start at 13h00. The South African College of Music reserves the right to alter programmes or replace soloists as may become necessary, but will endeavour to give notice of such changes via the mailing list, in the media and on various websites. Visit the SACM website: www.sacm.uct.ac.za BECOME A FRIEND OF THE COLLEGE Whilst every effort is made to keep ticket prices as low as possible, it is a huge benefit to join the Friends of the College. Friends of the College are offered 15 vouchers for R650.00. This works out to R43.33 per voucher, which will be issued to you at the beginning of the UCT concert year. These vouchers may be exchanged for tickets either at the door, or at Webtickets. Normal prices range from R70 to R100, and more for the opera collaborations. Members may then purchase more vouchers at the pro rata rate when they run out. Tickets are transferable, so your family and friends may attend concerts with you or even without you. OPERA WEDNESDAY 11 APRIL AT 19H30 FUNDRAISER BAXTER CONCERT HALL RISING STARS GALA CONCERT This fundraising concert features some of South Africa’s finest young opera singers – all in support of their friend - Lunga Eric Hallam. Lunga, a tenor from Khayelitsha, caught the eye of opera experts last year when he sang the role of Prince Ramiro in UCT’s production of La Cenerentola by Rossini, and then in Mendelssohn’s Elijah with the combined Symphony Choir and Philharmonia Choirs of Cape Town. Since then he was invited to audition for the University of Colorado where he was accepted into their opera programme to study his Masters in Music. In order to help raise the necessary funds to get there, Lunga has called on his friends to join him in an evening of their favourite opera arias and duets, and they will be accompanied by pianist José Dias. The singers include: Noluvuyiso Mpofu, Moloko Letsoalo, Ané Pretorius, Nkululeko Masuko, Martin Mkhize, Bongani Kubekha and Lunga’s twin brother, baritone Lungile Phillip Hallam.
