The Holy See POPE FRANCIS MORNING MEDITATION IN THE CHAPEL OF THE DOMUS SANCTAE MARTHAE Salvation according to Francis Wednesday, 10 April 2013 (by L'Osservatore Romano, Weekly ed. in English, n. 16, 17 April 2013) “The Lord does not save us with a letter, with a decree, but has already saved us” and continues to save us with “his love”; he restores to human beings their “dignity and hope”. During morning Mass at the Domus Sanctae Marthae, on Wednesday, 10 April, Pope Francis spoke about the most authentic expression of Christian salvation: that for love of us, God through his only begotten Son “became one of us, walked among us”. At Easter man is restored to his lost dignity and is, consequently, “given hope”. This, he explained, “is salvation. The Lord gives us the dignity we have lost”. This, the Pope said, “ is the road of salvation, and it is beautiful: love alone makes it so. We are worthy, we are men and women of hope”. It happens, however, that at times “we want to save ourselves and we believe that we can. Maybe we don't exactly say it, but that’s how we live”. For example when we think: “I can save myself with money. I am secure, I have some money, there is no problem... I have dignity: the dignity of being rich”. But, Pope Francis warned, all that “is not enough. Think of the Gospel parable, of that man who had the full granary and said: ‘I will make another, to have more and more, and then I will sleep peacefully”. And the Lord responds: ‘You fool! You will die tonight’. That kind of salvation is 2 wrong, it is temporary, apparent”. The Pope then invited everyone to make “an act of faith”, saying: “Lord, I believe. I believe in your love. I believe that your love has saved me. I believe that your love has given me a dignity that I did not have. I believe that your love gives me hope”. It is, he said, “beautiful to believe in love”, because “it is the truth. It is the truth of our life”. This is particularly noteworthy because it is not a diocese nor a religious order that is being investigated but rather a department of Roman curia. This is an investigation whose content and motives are presently unknown. Will it concern the former Guinean prefect’s past management or, rather, will it be directed more generally at the future of the Catholic liturgy? What we do know, for now, is that the Apostolic Visitor will likely be an Italian bishop. It will not be, however, Bishop Vittorio Francesco Viola, who many had picked as the likely successor of Sarah as prefect. According to sources gathered by Oltretevere, in fact, Bishop Claudio Maniago would lead the Apostolic Visitation at the Vatican’s Palace of the Congregations. Maniago, currently Bishop of Castellaneta (Southern Italy), is also President of Italian Bishops’ Conference’s Liturgical Commission. He is a choice, therefore, that would be in continuity with what was seen in the last Consistory: confirming the good times that the Italian episcopate - or at least a part of it – now seems to enjoying during Francis’s pontificate.

In earliest days “Advent” marked that “Coming” of Christ – Christmas Day. In time, the scope of the mystery was broadened to include a preparation for his Christmas Coming and his “Final Coming” on Judgment Day. There is no better way to prepare for these mysteries than by celebrating what is so central to our Faith, his sacramental Coming in the Eucharist – for which we should prepare as well. Through the Sacrament of Penance, may each of us entrust to the forgiving Christ “all that is past, all that is gone and all that has failed” as we earnestly await for the Advent of Christ and the new hope it brings this Christmas. Tradycyjny biały dym, obwieszczający światu wybór głowy Kościoła, pojawił się o godz. 1906. Franciszek na początku inauguracyjnego wystąpienia odmówił Modlitwę Pańską za swojego poprzednika, Benedykta XVI. Następnie poprosił wiernych o odmówienie modlitwy za swój pontyfikat, po czym udzielił pierwszego błogosławieństwa Urbi et Orbi. Wezwał też do modlitwy o ogólnoświatowe braterstwo. 23. marca, papież senior Benedykt XVI spotkał się w Castel Gandolfo z urzędującym papieżem. 2. maja 2013 r. emerytowany papież, po pobycie w Castel Gandolfo, powrócił do Watykanu. Zamieszkał tu w klasztorze Mater Ecclesiae. Papieża seniora przywitał jego następca, Franciszek oraz delegacja Watykanu z sekretarzem stanu kardynałem Bertone i dziekanem Kolegium Kardynalskiego kardynałem Sodano. 1 5. lipca 2013 r., Benedykt XVI po raz pierwszy od momentu abdykacji wziął udział razem z Franciszkiem w ceremonii zorganizowanej na terenie Watykanu. Jak podały media – podczas uroczystości odsłonięcia pomnika Michała Archanioła przed budynkiem gubernatorstwa Państwa Watykańskiego, obaj papieże siedzieli obok siebie.
