Vatican abuse summit followup decides to hold more followups On Monday, in the Vatican’s first follow-up to last week’s child abuse summit, officials emphasized “encounter” and the need for concrete responses as called for by Catholics. The focus of the four-hour meeting Feb. 25 was “first and unanimously” on Pope Francis’ desire for encounter, according to a statement by papal spokesman Alessandro Gisotti. In attendance were some senior officials of the Secretariat of State, the heads of several Vatican dicasteries, and abuse summit organizers Fr. Federico Lombardi, Fr. Hans Zollner, Archbishop Charles Scicluna, Cardinal Oswald Gracias, and Cardinal Blase Cupich. The group agreed to continue to hold similar interdicasterial meetings “in the name of synodality and synergy” to monitor progress on commitments made at the summit. Gisotti said that dicastery heads, speaking openly, affirmed their commitment to following “the example of Pope Francis in the fight against abuses,” with an emphasis on encounter and on listening to victims. Other discussion topics during the meeting were the need for better child protection training and greater involvement from laity, Gisotti said. Organizers outlined for officials the principles behind the forthcoming documents and task forces – the promised outcomes of the abuse summit which were announced Sunday. The concrete commitments made at the end of the Vatican’s sex abuse summit Sunday included the publication of a motu proprio from Pope Francis “on the protection of minors and vulnerable persons,” Lombardi announced Feb. 24. Vatican City State is supposed also to receive in the coming weeks its own new child protection law, and the Vicariate of Vatican City new child protection guidelines.

Memorandum Submitted by Catholic Women to Cardinal Oswald Gracias, Archbishop of Bombay, President of Catholic Bishops’ Conference of India & Advisor to Pope Francis. Dated 8th March 2020. Dear Cardinal Oswald, Warm Greetings from the Catholic Women/Men in India. As we join hands with women around the globe to celebrate another International Women’s Day and take stock of women’s place in the world today, we thought it opportune to also examine the status of women in the Catholic Church, particularly in India. Over the years the Catholic bishops of India have supported the empowerment of women in many ways, through education, including theological training, healthcare, promoting participation in self-governance, legal aid, income generation schemes, and other sustainable development programmes. These initiatives have had a tremendous impact on the women of India, particularly in rural areas. Looking within Within the church however, not much has changed. Every year we celebrate International Women’s Day with the full support of the bishops and clergy, but the concerns and frustrations of women within the church remain the same. We have leadership training for women but there are no spaces for women to exercise this leadership. Doors have been opened for women to contribute their services in pastoral work, as community leaders in SCCs, as Eucharistic Ministers, Lectors, Cantors, Ushers, and leaders in outreach activities in the parish, yet their ministries are not valued as much as, or given as much recognition as the ministry of ordained deacons, from which women, including women religious, are banned. That women persist in their ministries and continue to fill the pews despite this very visible discrimination, is a sign both of their love for the Church, and their internalisation of their second class status in the Church.

Serving the Church in Central and Southern Indiana Since 1960 CriterionOnline.com March 1, 2019 Vol. LIX, No. 20 75¢ This year’s Lent could be just what struggling ‘We dare not fail’ Church needs WASHINGTON (CNS)—When Lent begins on March 6, Catholics in the United States will likely be more than ready for it. This set-aside time for prayer and reflection—after all the Church has been through in recent months—could provide both a healing balm and a needed boost forward, some say. Ash Wednesday, the start of Lent, is typically a big Catholic draw, filling churches with nearly Easter- or Christmas-size Mass crowds even though it is not a holy day of obligation. Conventual Franciscan Father Jude DeAngelo, director of campus ministry at The Catholic University of America in Washington, hopes this year is no exception. “We in the American Catholic Church have been through a year of tremendous suffering and tremendous upheaval and frustration,” he told Catholic News Service (CNS), referring to the past months of allegations of sexual misconduct and cover-up by Church leaders. The Holy See WORDS OF CONDOLENCES OF HIS HOLINESS BENEDICT XVI FOR THE DEATH OF CARD. JOZEF GLEMP To Cardinal Kazimierz Nycz Archbishop of Warsaw I learned with sorrow of the death of Cardinal Józef Glemp, Archbishop emeritus of Gniezno and of Warsaw, Primate of Poland. I join you, dear Brother, the Presbyterate and the faithful of the Church in Poland in the prayers of thanksgiving for the life and pastoral ministry of this praiseworthy minister of the Gospel. His episcopal motto, Caritati in iustitia — for charity in justice — accompanied him throughout his life and directed his way of thinking, evaluating, making choices, taking decisions and offering guidelines for pastoral action. He was a “just” man in the spirit of St Joseph, his Patron and the Patron of all those who in the biblical tradition could hear the voice of God addressing his call not only to them personally, but also to the communities to which they had been sent. This justice, full of humble adherence to God’s will, formed the basis of his deep love for God and for people. It was his light, inspiration and strength in the demanding ministry of steering the Church through an epoch in which important social and political transformations affected both Poland and Europe. Love of God and love of the Church, concern for the life and dignity of every man and woman made him an apostle of unity against division, of concord in the face of conflict. Thus the common construction of a happy future is founded on its joyful and painful experiences of the Church and of the people.

  • Oath Swearing Allegiance to the Pope (Book of Truth – Maria Divine Mercy)
(2/13/17) BLOG POST: Is Prophecy Being Fulfilled…? Oath Swearing Allegiance To The Pope (Book of Truth – Maria Divine Mercy) http://maryrefugeofholylove.com ARTICLE: “BREAKING: Council of Cardinals pledges allegiance to Pope Francis” Monday, February 13, 2017 – 10:17 am EST News: LifeSiteNews Author: John-Henry Westen Source: https://www.lifesitenews.com/news/breaking-council-of-cardinals-pledge- allegiance-to-pope-francis ROME, February 13, 2017 (LifeSiteNews) – In an odd note without explanation placed on the Vatican’s daily press briefing today, the Council of Cardinals, a group of 10 Cardinals which Pope Francis has delegated to work with him on reform, has pledged allegiance to the Pope. “In relation to recent events, the Council of Cardinals pledges its full support for the Pope’s work, assuring him at the same time of its adhesion and loyalty to the figure of the Pope and to his Magisterium,” said the note. The statement comes in the wake of two public expressions of dissatisfaction or concern with Pope Francis that hit the streets of Rome in the last week. The first was a poster campaign which saw dozens of large posters plastered around the city. They noted Francis’ dismantling congregations, removing priests and more, and asked in conclusion, “Where is your mercy?” The second was a satirical version of the Vatican newspaper L’Osservatore Romano painting the Pope as answering the dubia with ‘yes and no’ to each question. Cardinal Marc Ouellet, prefect of the Congregation for Bishops, last week criticized the poster campaign as a “work of the devil.” However, the Cardinal was criticized for his condemnation of the public expression of the faithful given that he has direct access to the Pope, whereas the laity do not.

The Holy See POPE FRANCIS MORNING MEDITATION IN THE CHAPEL OF THE DOMUS SANCTAE MARTHAE Salvation according to Francis Wednesday, 10 April 2013 (by L'Osservatore Romano, Weekly ed. in English, n. 16, 17 April 2013) “The Lord does not save us with a letter, with a decree, but has already saved us” and continues to save us with “his love”; he restores to human beings their “dignity and hope”. During morning Mass at the Domus Sanctae Marthae, on Wednesday, 10 April, Pope Francis spoke about the most authentic expression of Christian salvation: that for love of us, God through his only begotten Son “became one of us, walked among us”. At Easter man is restored to his lost dignity and is, consequently, “given hope”. This, he explained, “is salvation. The Lord gives us the dignity we have lost”. This, the Pope said, “ is the road of salvation, and it is beautiful: love alone makes it so. We are worthy, we are men and women of hope”. It happens, however, that at times “we want to save ourselves and we believe that we can. Maybe we don't exactly say it, but that’s how we live”. For example when we think: “I can save myself with money. I am secure, I have some money, there is no problem... I have dignity: the dignity of being rich”. But, Pope Francis warned, all that “is not enough. Think of the Gospel parable, of that man who had the full granary and said: ‘I will make another, to have more and more, and then I will sleep peacefully”.
