Berea College Honor Roll of Giving 2011-2012 Honor Roll of Giving The names of those captured in this Honor Roll have done something remarkable—these people have changed lives. By giving to Berea College, these generous women and men have made possible a host of educational opportunities for Berea students. As I reflect upon these names, I think how inspiring it is to have thousands of different people come together on an annual basis for one cause—to support the mission of Berea College. From alumni, to friends of Berea, to foundations and corporations, the Berea story would not be complete without those you see listed here. These great people saw something in our students and our mission. They saw possibility and promise. Not only that, they acted, giving selflessly to help others. We are grateful for their generosity, compassion, and steadfast belief in our students’ potential. Berea students are extraordinary in so many ways. Limited only by their financial need, Berea students go on to do great work in countless ways. See some of their incredible stories here http://www.berea.edu/give-to-berea/now-more-than-ever/. Our sincere thanks go out to all those who help make this possible. Sincerely, Michelle L. • Updating Report for SCCA Campaign
Updating Report for SCCA Campaign 2012 proved incredibly important in raising public awareness of the institutional cultures and dynamics that hinder the effective implementation of Child Protection/Safeguarding policies and procedures. The Savile Inquiries, the Rochdale cases and the inquiries and police investigation into child sexual abuse perpetrated by clergy within the Diocese of Chichester all in 2012 raise considerable concerns about how those placed in positions of authority within institutions, local authorities and police services as well as within the wider communities respond to Child Sexual Abuse that is taking place in some cases quite literally before their eyes. The campaign and the Government’s response The Stop Church Child Abuse (“SCCA”) campaign was launched in March 2012. The campaign is an alliance of clergy sexual abuse survivors, charities supporting survivors, specialist lawyers and interested individuals working in the field of child safeguarding. The campaign aims to highlight the serious safeguarding failures of church institutions. The campaign and many individuals have called on the Government to institute an independent inquiry into child sexual abuse perpetrated by clergy, religious and other church officials within all Dioceses and institutions of the Catholic Church in England & Wales and the Church of England and in Wales. Many contacts and letters have passed between the campaign’s supporters and the MPs. The Government response to this pressure has been (quoting from the Education Secretary’s letter of 25th May 2012):- 1) “No child should ever have to tolerate abuse. I am not however convinced of the need for a public inquiry, as the key issues are already being addressed by reforms we have underway.

  • New Sculpture at St Andrew Plymouth
VISION FOR THE PILLARS Commissioning New Art for Churches 2012 Competition Submission of The Minster Church of St Andrew, Plymouth Vision for the Pillars PREFACE - CATCHING THE VISION Do you wish to set out on the adventure of commissioning new art? (Commissioning New Art for Churches, page3) When we responded to the invitation to compete for the Jerusalem Prize we had little idea how exciting an adventure it was to be: from deciding what was going to be our project to completing this stage of the competition, we have discovered so much, met so many interesting people and engaged in processes completely new to us. It has been a roller coaster of a learning experience – and in no small part the Guide has done what its producers aimed to do; stimulated and encouraged us in “a process that has been both enjoyable and rewarding”. From simply considering a sculpture on two pillars at the entrance to a newly acquired space in front of the church, we have come to realise the significance of the space itself as an interface between our bustling City Centre and the church building. From rather modest expectations of a work in metal, in the light of our research on public art, both in our own City and further afield, we have raised our sights expecting that what we achieve will be an iconic work of art, in a material determined by the commissioned artist, to compare in importance with the John Piper windows, which enhance our church in its post-war restoration. We are confident that when we make known our brief, interest will not be limited to local artists.

  • Porvoo Prayer Diary 2021
PORVOO PRAYER DIARY 2021 The Porvoo Declaration commits the churches which have signed it ‘to share a common life’ and ‘to pray for and with one another’. An important way of doing this is to pray through the year for the Porvoo churches and their Dioceses. The Prayer Diary is a list of Porvoo Communion Dioceses or churches covering each Sunday of the year, mindful of the many calls upon compilers of intercessions, and the environmental and production costs of printing a more elaborate list. Those using the calendar are invited to choose one day each week on which they will pray for the Porvoo churches. It is hoped that individuals and parishes, cathedrals and religious orders will make use of the Calendar in their own cycle of prayer week by week. In addition to the churches which have approved the Porvoo Declaration, we continue to pray for churches with observer status. Observers attend all the meetings held under the Agreement. The Calendar may be freely copied or emailed for wider circulation. The Prayer Diary is updated once a year.
