This new tour offers you to see two of the finest operas written by Benjamin Britten and Vincenzo Bellini, in and hear two of the best singers, Klaus Vogt and Anja Hasteros, in Munich. In Zurich we offer you Verdi’s favorite opera, Un ballo in Mascara. Britten’s opera is his last major work, Death in Venice based on Thomas Mann’s novella. Bellini’s opera is also his last major work I Puritani, based on the English Civil War during the 1640s. In Munich, you will see Richard Wagner’s opera Tannhauser.

Opera Performances In Stuttgart: June 05 - Death in Venice by B. Britten at Oper-Stuttgart. June 06 - I Puritani by Bellini at Oper-Stuttgart.

In Munich: June 08 - Tannhauser by Wagner at Bayerische Staatsoper, with Klous Vogt and Anja Harteros.

In Zurich: June 11 - Uno Ballo in Mascara by Verdi at Zurich Opera House.

Saturday, June 3. (D)*. DEPART FOR STUTTGART Depart this evening aboard any airline of your choice to Stuttgart, Germany. Dinner and light breakfast served on the plane.

Sunday, June 4. (B,D). STUTTGART Upon arrival at the Stuttgart International airport take a taxi to the centrally located deluxe HOTEL STEIGENBERGER, where we stay three nights. We will reimburse you the taxi fare. Reception, cocktails and Gala Welcome dinner at the hotel.

Monday, June 5. (B). STUTTGART Morning orientation tour of this dynamic city. Among the sights to see are the Stiftskirche (Collegiate Church), the New Castle and the City Art Gallery which we will visit. This evening you will see the opera Death in Venice by Benjamin Britten at the Oper-Stuttgart.

Stuttgart is famous for the invention of motor cars, in 1899 by Carl Benz which were marketed by Daimler Company. In 1901 a new model was baptized Mercedes, after the daughter of the most important foreign agent at the time. The illuminated 3-point star within a circle, which is the company’s trademark, can be seen at night over the roofs of the city.

Tuesday, June 6. (B). STUTTGART Today is free to visit he National Art Gallery housing paintings from medieval times to the impressionists and 12 works by Picasso, or the Linden-Museum consecrated to fine arts and folk arts worldwide. This evening you will see the opera I Puritani by Bellini at the Oper-Stuttgart.

Wednesday, June 7. (B,D). STUTTGART-MUNICH This morning we drive east in a luxury coach to Munich, where we stay three nights at the centrally located deluxe KEMPINSKI HOTEL. Dinner at the hotel.

Thursday, June 8. (B). MUNICH Morning sightseeing of this third largest city in Germany begins with a drive around the city to see the Olympic Park, site of the 1972 Summer Olympic, the BMW headquarter, Nymphenburg

Palace and the 2 square miles of the English gardens with several beer gardens. This evening you will see the opera Tannhauser by Wagner and the Bayerische Staatsoper, with Klaus Vogt and Anja Harteros.

Munich has more to offer than the BMW car factory and the 110 million gallons of beer brewed annually. For a city of its size, it has one of the finest collections of art within one museum, the Alte and Neue Pinekothek and the Deutsches Museum started in 1903, to show one of the most important collections of scientific and technical matters in the world. Munich’s cultural wealth, its atmosphere – a blend of gayety, tolerance and respect for traditions have combined to make it one of the most appreciated German cities.

Friday, June 9. (B). MUNICH This morning we will take a walking tour of the Old City founded by the monks of the Benedict Order to see Marienplatz, the city hall with its famous Clock Tower, the churches of Our Lady, Holy Spirit anis St. Peters and to see Richard Strauss Fountain with bas reliefs showing scenes from his opera Salome. Afternoon free.

Saturday, June 10. (B). MUNICH-ZURICH This morning we drive southwest to Zurich, where we stay three nights at the centrally located STEIGENBERGER BELLERIVE AU LAC HOTEL. Afternoon free.

Zurich is a leading global city and among the world’s largest financial centers, despite a relatively low population. Most of Switzerland’s research and development centers are located here and the low tax rates attract overseas companies to set up their headquarters in the city.

Sunday, June 11. (B). ZURICH Morning sightseeing of this sparkling city. Among the sights are the Greater Minster Church, the with its Roman Castle and the gothic Prediger Church completed in the 14th Century. This afternoon we will see the opera Un Ballo in Mascara by Verdi at the newly renovated Zurich Opera House.

Monday, June 12. (B,D). ZURICH Today is free to take in a boat ride on Lake Zurich, right near our hotel or visit any of the fine arts museums such as the Zurich Museum of Art, Center Le Corbusier and the Rietburg Museum. Gala Farewell dinner at a gourmet restaurant. Tuesday, June 13. (B). ZURICH-BACK HOME We will provide transfer from the hotel to the airport for departure aboard your airline back home, arriving the same afternoon. Auf Wiedersehn. See you on another H.A.T. Tour.
