In conjunction with this milestone, the International Academy of Sports Sciences and Technology — the AISTS — has completed a study on the overall economic impact of the International Olympic Committee and other international sports organisations. The study concentrates on Switzerland, with emphasis on the Lausanne region and the Canton of Vaud. It spans the years 2008 to 2013 and consolidates data from 45 responding international sports organisations. Together, these organisations and their visitors spend an average of CHF 691 million within Switzerland each year. This spending generates CHF 379 million of additional impact on the Swiss economy, creating an average yearly economic impact of CHF 1.07 billion for Switzerland, CHF 0.55 billion for the Canton of Vaud and CHF 0.25 billion for the Lausanne region.

En parfaite cohérence avec les objectifs du Projet d’Agglomération Lausanne Morges (PALM), le développement de ce nouveau transport public s’inscrit dans les densifications prévues le long de cet axe. La réalisation d’un tram en deux étapes, entre la gare du Flon à Lausanne et Renens, puis jusqu’à Villars-Ste-Croix, s'inscrit dans le PALM dont l’objectif est de coordonner le développement des infrastructures de transport avec l’urbanisation de l’agglomération. Suite à l’octroi par le Grand Conseil, en 2016, d’un crédit pour les études de la deuxième étape, le Canton de Vaud, les communes de Bussigny, Crissier, Ecublens, Villars-Sainte-Croix et les Transports publics de la région lausannoise (tl) réalisent actuellement les études de projet d’ouvrage. Deux options de terminus ont été analysées, la première à Cocagne sur la commune de Bussigny, la seconde à Croix-Péage sur la commune de Villars-Ste-Croix. Dans ce contexte et en lien avec les densifications planifiées par les communes le long de la ligne, les autorités politiques confirment le tracé jusqu’au terminus à la Croix-du-Péage, dont le potentiel de fréquentation attendu à terme justifie une telle infrastructure.

En parfaite harmonie avec le Projet d’agglomération Lausanne-Morges (PALM) qui vise à maîtriser et orienter le développement urbain de l’agglomération, le SDOL a posé les bases de projets favorisant les transports en commun, tels que de nouvelles lignes de bus et le tram t1 qui reliera Lausanne à Villars-Sainte-Croix. Il importe que les habitants et les pendulaires soient bien informés et impliqués dans l’évolution et le renouveau de la mobilité qui s’annonce dans l’Ouest lausannois. Les huit Communes avec le bureau du SDOL ont imaginé diverses actions pour promouvoir la marche et le vélo. Dans cette optique, la manifestation « Cap sur l’Ouest » (2012 et 2014) permet à la population de parcourir à pied, à vélo ou en trottinette une vingtaine de kilomètres sur des routes fermées au trafic à travers les huit communes du district durant une journée.

Enfin le 7 mars, des ateliers thématiques à St- Sulpice ont permis aux participants d’approfondir les diverses thématiques du PDi-OL. Un guide de lecture et un formulaire de récolte des remarques ont été mis à disposition de la population pour faci- liter la lecture du PDi-OL et la transmission des remarques. A l’issue de cette phase de concertation, 102 prises de position différentes ont été reçues de particu- liers, d’associations ou de personnes morales.
