Rolling stock authorised to operate specifically on the Country Rail Network is governed by axle load and speeds restrictions for each specific corridor. To gain listing in this document rolling stock must comply with the CRN Minimum Operating Requirements for Rolling Stock Documents CRN RS 001 to CRN RS 004 or be covered by an appropriate Approved Exemption Certificate. A Train Operating Conditions (TOC) Waiver is required for the operation of any vehicle/vehicle type which is authorised, but not listed in this document. © JHR UNCONTROLLED WHEN PRINTED Page 3 of 43 SECTION 10 Version: 3.0 General Instruction Pages Locomotive and Rolling Stock Data Train Operating Conditions Manual EXPLANATORY NOTES FOR LOCOMOTIVE AND ROLLING STOCK DATA FREIGHT VEHICLE SPEED CLASSIFICATIONS The following speed classifications apply to freight vehicles operating on the Country Regional Network SPEED CLASS SPEED km/h APPLICABLE CRN CORRIDORS A 115 These speeds apply to the following mainline corridors only: B 100 Bowenfels - Parkes C 80 Wallerawang - Charbon Colliery Junction Orange East Fork - Dubbo D 65 E 80 For maximum permitted speeds on all other corridors, refer to the relevant Section F 65 Pages G N/A NOTE: The maximum permitted axle load for branch lines, unless otherwise permitted by the “R” Notes, is the axle load allowed for Class A speeds on mainline corridors These vehicles were originally designed for 76 tonne gross mass but are now permitted to be loaded up to a maximum of 80 tonnes (for 4 axles) gross or 20 tonnes per axle, and therefore they are restricted to the below specified maximum speeds between the following locations when their gross mass exceeds 76 tonnes: Bowenfels and Parkes 80 km/h Orange East Fork and Dubbo 80 km/h R1 Narromine and Cobar 60 km/h Stockinbingal and Griffith 65 km/h Junee and Griffith 60 km/h Joppa Junction and Canberra 65 km/h NOTE: Operators and loading personnel shall ensure that the vehicles are evenly loaded and their gross mass does not exceed the specified limits for the required operation, on the nominated corridor. R2 Not Used R3 No longer used (see R20) These vehicles are restricted to the following mainline corridors only, at a speed not exceeding 80km/h, when loaded to a gross mass exceeding 84 tonnes up to a maximum of 87 tonnes (for 4 axles) gross or 21.75 tonnes per axle. R4 Bowenfels - Parkes Wallerawang - Charbon Colliery Junction Orange East Fork - Dubbo These vehicles are restricted to following mainline corridors only, at a speed not exceeding 80 km/h, when loaded to a gross mass exceeding 84 tonnes up to a maximum mass specified for the vehicle at a Class ‘C’ Speed. Also refer to restrictions under R5 Note R1. Bowenfels - Parkes Wallerawang - Charbon Colliery Junction Orange East Fork - Dubbo R6 Fuel/oil tank wagons are limited to 70 km/h unless stencilled for 80 km/h Bogie tank wagons – maximum gross mass and length. Individual vehicles may vary. The following NTAF wagons only have a R7 riveted underframe and must therefore be classified as Low DRAW CAPACITY (0.75) when calculating trailing loads :- Nos. 5193, 5194, 6006, 6010, 6011, 6019, 6034, 6046, 6055, 6063, 6065, 6066, 6069, 6073, 7276. As these locomotives are not fitted with de-sanding equipment, when operating as single units or as trailing units in multiple unit consists, (in track circuited areas only) the sanding equipment must be isolated. Where poor adhesion conditions require the R8 use of sand, the sand equipment may be cut in and the train worked under block working conditions until the sand equipment is again isolated. If sand equipment is applied continuously or excessively, Train Control must be advised immediately and the procedures of CNGE232 followed. Locomotives and rolling stock constructed to the CRN ‘Narrow Square’ Rolling Stock outline may infringe trackside equipment such as platforms, sheep and cattle races and therefore are not permitted to operate on some branch lines. The following locomotives and corridors are exceptions to this rule R9 NR, CEY,XRN, 92, 93, CF ,6000, 6020 Classes Junee – Griffith and Stockinbingal – Griffith CEY, XRN, 92, 93, CF, 6000, 6020 Classes Bowenfels - Lidsdale and Wallerawang – Charbon Colliery Junction CEY, FIE, XRN, 92, 93, CF, 6000, 6020 Classes Narrabri Junction to Wee Waa NOTE: Operating conditions apply to the Junee-Griffith Corridor (see South Section Pages) and S3 locomotives are restricted to an S5 category by fuel loading (see Note R19). © JHR UNCONTROLLED WHEN PRINTED Page 4 of 43 SECTION 10 Version: 3.0 General Instruction Pages Locomotive and Rolling Stock Data Train Operating Conditions Manual EXPLANATORY NOTES (Continued) FOR LOCOMOTIVE AND ROLLING STOCK DATA R10 This container wagon can be loaded to a maximum height of 4050mm above rail and operate within the area of operation assigned to Diagram 3 as specified in SECTION 5 of the General Instruction Pages – Loading Restrictions Page 6. R11 Light locomotives and other vehicles identified with this note shall be manually block worked in accordance with CNSY 512 in CRN track circuited areas, including areas with track circuited level crossings. R13 These locomotives are fitted with standard automatic air brake and an ECP brake control. Locomotives identified by this note have diesel AC traction and may be marshalled together in any combination. These locomotives may be mixed with DC locomotives of classes CLP, CLF, G, X and NR ONLY in any combination up to 4 locomotives.
