This was the beginning of our Democracy. Ngaka Modiri Molema District Municipality under the Political Leadership of Executive Mayor, Cllr Tshepo Justice Makolomakwa, Welcome the newly appointed MEC for Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs and Department of Human Settlement, Hon. Mothibedi Kegakilwe. The MEC, who is amongst other passionate about the role that Communications plays in Government, says he is passionate about this function of which during his engagement with Local Government Communicators he urged that there is a need for Communicators to be the proper face of government as they at all times communicate government messages with one voice. In this issue 42 of Modiri External Newsletter, we demonstrate the extent at which the Municipality delivers its mandate at providing quality services to Communities through various projects and programmes. The Executive Mayor has acknowledged the challenges faced by the residents of Ngaka Modiri Molema on the scarcity of water due the low water level sources as this District is a dependent on ground water sources and Villages such as Magogoe Koikoi, Central and Majemantsho in the Mahikeng Local are amongst others affected by lack of water and are benefitting from the Drought Relief Programme funded by Department of Water and Sanitation. Despite these challenges, the Municipality has completed 3 water projects in Springbokpan, Meetmekaar and Schoongezicht which installed yard connections to more than 2 000 households. Other Projects such as the one in Bakerville are among the projects that were supported by the Department of Water and Sanitation and implemented through Sedibeng Water as delivery of Water is a shared responsibility with the Department of water and sanitation; and Sedibeng Water as an implementing agent. The Municipality will continue to communicate all its plans on service delivery matters and communicate one voice on “Thuma Mina”. “THE NEW DAWN” #TogetherwemoveNgakaModiriMolemaForward. © Lonely Planet Publications 509 North-West Province From safaris to slots, the pursuit of pleasure is paramount in the North-West Province. And with the top three reasons to visit less than a six-hour drive from Johannesburg, this region is more than fun. It’s convenient. Gambling is the name of the game here, although not always in the traditional sense. Place your luck in a knowledgeable ranger’s hands at Madikwe Game Reserve and bet on how many lions he’ll spot on the sunrise wildlife drive. You have to stay to play at this exclusive reserve on the edge of the Kalahari, and the lodges here will be a splurge for many. But for that once-in-a-lifetime, romantic Out of Africa–style safari experience, South Africa’s fourth-largest reserve can’t be beat. If you’d rather spot the Big Five without professional help, do a self-drive safari in Pi- lanesberg National Park. The most accessible park in the country is cheaper than Madikwe, and still has 7000 animals packed into its extinct volcano confines. Plus it’s less than three hours’ drive from Jo’burg. When you’ve had your fill betting on finding rhino, switch to cards at the opulent Sun City casino complex down the road. The final component of the province’s big attraction trifecta is the southern hemisphere’s answer to Las Vegas: a shame- lessly gaudy, unabashedly kitsch and downright delicious place to pass an afternoon. Madikwe, Pilanesberg and Sun City may be the North-West Province’s heavyweight at- tractions, but there are more here than the province’s ‘Big Three’.

CATALOGUE OF GEOSCIENCE DATA AND INFORMATION AT THE COUNCIL FOR GEOSCIENCE 2021-06-01 Document no: KIMS-CAT-001 rev1 Council for Geoscience 2021 BACK TO INDEX Page 1 of 226 FOREWORD The Promotion of Access to Information Act (PAIA) (Act No. 2 of 2000) was enacted to give effect to the right of access to information contained in Section 32 (2) of the Bill of Rights of the Constitution of the Republic of South Africa, 1996. The Council for Geoscience (CGS) is the national custodian of all geoscientific information and its dissemination to stakeholders and clients. The Geoscience Act (Act No. 100 of 1993) and its Amendment (Act No. 16 of 2010) states that geoscience data and information records published by the CGS in the form of maps, documents and databases are to be made available to stakeholders and clients. This provision gave rise to the development of the Pricing guidelines. Through the guidelines, the cost of data and information has been updated to ensure that the prices are current but yet affordable to the various categories of stakeholders and the public. The Pricing guidelines necessitated the development of a Data and Information Catalogue. This catalogue outlines the different categories of maps and databases available at either a cost or no cost. Moreover, in an effort to streamline data and information management, the organisation further adopted a Data and Information policy and subsequently appointed a Public Information Officer to streamline the function of the dissemination of data and information on behalf of the organisation and its key stakeholders. For all information and data requests, the Public Information Officer can be contacted on [email protected] for data related queries or [email protected] for information from the National Geoscience Library.

RECONNAISSANCE OF REMAINING CULTURAL RESOURCES IN THE BAKERVILLE DIAMOND FIELDS For: DEPARTMENT OF ENVIRONMENTAL AFFAIRS AND TOURISM Private Bag X2 ROGGEBAAI 8012 Survey done and report prepared by the: NATIONAL CULTURAL HISTORY MUSEUM P.O. Box 28088 SUNNYSIDE 0132 Telephone - (012) 3411320 Telefax - (012) 3416146 REPORT: 95KH07 Date of survey: July 1995 Date of report: August 1995 ii SUMMARY Reconnaissance of remaining cultural resources in the Bakerville Diamond Fields The aim of the survey was to conduct a situation analysis of cultural resources which are associated with the Bakerville Diamond Fields and diamond mining in the Lichtenburg district, North West Province. From the survey it was deduced that very little artifactual evidence of the diamond mining at Bakerville has remained. Instead, there is a large body of valuable information in the form of oral histories which should be documented, especially amongst the black people who were involved with the mining activities. It is recommended that money be made available to do this kind of documentation, as well as to document what structures are left in situ. Available structures and machinery should be moved to the planned Lichtenburg Diamond Mining Museum for future conservation and educational use.
