BOSTON BRUINS POSTGAME QUOTES VS Sunday, May 12, 2019

BOSTON BRUINS HEAD COACH BRUCE CASSIDY On Matt Grzelcyk’s response to the big hit he took early in the game… Well, it was terrific. I mean, I think it lifts our bench when you get drilled pretty good. You know, you kind of chip it off and back to work and scores a , whatever it was, two shifts later, so certainly gives us a lift. I’m not surprised. He’s a tough kid, and in this playoff season – any playoff season – you’re going to take some hits, take a number, get back out there and play the game. Keep discipline and at some point, if you get a chance to be physical against them, you take advantage of it, and that’s the way it works.

On if this is as close to a 60-minute effort as you can get for a playoff game… Yeah, well we certainly…we elevated our game from Game 1. I don’t want go through the whole playoff series, but our start was good. They were physical, answered the bell. We didn’t give up much in the first. I think it was one tip scoring chance and generated some of our own. Took advantage of the power play opportunity and had the lead going into the first intermission. Always our goal, on-time start. Hopefully, with the lead. Extend the lead. Play winning hockey to finish the game. It’s kind of how we approach it every night, and I think, yeah, to answer your question it’s as close as I can recall.

On his team responding to every type of game the opponent brings… Talent level of our group. We can skate with anybody. I think when we’re on our game and skating I think we’re as good as any skating team in this league. We have physical players sprinkled throughout our lineup that can deliver the hits, and we have, we just talked about him, the Matt Grzelcyk’s of the world that can bounce back off hits that aren’t known as physical guys that can skate, smart, but doesn’t bother him. He’ll bounce back, so I think that bleeds into whatever game’s out there, and we’re going to play it. And hopefully, play it well if you’re executing. Then it comes down to can you execute? Are you focused? Are you making the plays at the right time? So, skating or physical or both. I think Carolina’s both. I think they have a nice blend of that. So do we, so it makes for a good matchup.

On Connor Clifton’s goal tying a franchise record for 19 different players scoring in the postseason, last accomplished in 1988, and if he remembers anything from the ’88 season… I do. Not all 18 scorers, though.

On what he remembers from the ’88 season… Was that the year the lights…I was at the game when the lights went out, so was that ’88 or ’89? Because I forget.

On if having so many different scorers feels contagious on the bench... It does.

On if it changes his coaching approach…

No, it doesn’t change – yeah, I guess it would. If we’re behind a goal at some point, and you know you’re not getting secondary scoring, then you’re going to try to squeeze a little more out of your top group. So, maybe you have your o-zone drawers, you put them out there, and all of a sudden fatigue sets in for that group. We went through it a bit last year against Tampa. We weren’t getting the goals, so you press with maybe your top guys instead of letting it play and the game just come to you. I think this year because we’ve scored a lot more up and down the line it’s just a little easier to roll lines and look for your matchup but roll lines and not have to over-extend skill guys. I think any team that advances generally gets some level of that where everybody’s contributing, where someone steps up in a different night. You’re not relying on one area, and we’ve definitely got that. I mean, the Charlie Coyle line right now creates a big problem I think for the other team. Okay, you’ve got Bergy’s [Patrice Bergeron] line right out of the gate. You’ve got [David] Krejci, who’s a known playoff scorer now with [Jake] DeBrusk. Now you’ve got a third line to deal with, so usually getting your d-pairs out there it’s a lot of work to play against, you know, if you want to play your top pair against two of those three lines. So, it’s a big ask, and I think that’s a difficult ask as well, so it’s benefited us a lot.

On the team getting offense from the blue line… Well, they were mad at Fluto’s [Shinzawa] article the other day, so they stepped up. Listen, we are what we are. Grizz [Grzelcyk] is not going to be a guy we expect to lead our offense back there. Torey Krug, yes, we expect him to score, make some plays. The other guys are more secondary guys. Charlie’s [McAvoy] in the middle. He’s a guy that we do expect to be a…one of those primary offensive guys, but he’s not on that first unit, so his numbers aren’t going to reflect it as much. Listen, they want to get up there and make plays when they’re available. And I think today, both the goals were guys that are good skates, can get up the ice and recover if it breaks down. With Clifton and Grizz, you know, they’re up the ice supporting what was going on, not leading the rush. I think that’s when our defensemen will contribute. It usually starts with a forward making a good play, separating somewhere on the ice, and then they’re the next layer of attack, and that’s generally how our offense comes from the backend – a lot of backends, but specifically ours. And it worked out for us tonight. We need it, generally speaking, you’re going to need it to…that’s more the secondary scoring.

On getting the win on Mother’s Day… Yeah, feels great. Any win’s a good win though in the playoffs, not going to lie to you.

On his players adjusting to Petr Mrazek’s style in net… Yeah, Goalie Bob [Bruins Goaltending Coach Bob Essensa] does his presentation on the goaltender, and that’s been discussed. Even the first chance Pasta [David Pastrnak] had, he was way out, so we talk about well maybe you have to take the extra step. Now, Pasta was getting closed on. Bergy has the rebound chance, but some of those situations have been brought up. I just think in the heat of the moment the player makes the decision, but if you can get him moving…with [Sergei] Bobrovsky we talked about that, very athletic, challenging. I think Mrazek’s similar, maybe just not quite as quick, but you do have to get it up when it changes sides, generally speaking. They’ve been informed and all that, and I think it’s just hockey instincts when the players take over. At the end of the day, pucks on their stick, they’ve got time and space, they know they have to make their split-second decision. We have talented guys up here to do that.

On if he’s seen Clifton employ good offensive instincts and confidence in the past and if he’s seen it elevate over the course of the playoffs… I haven’t necessarily seen that go up in the playoffs. We have confidence in Connor. A, because he’s competitive. He’s not shying away from the moment. When he’s moving his feet, which we do have to remind him to keep the motor running, he can separate and make good plays. And did we see it in him originally? That’s all we saw in him when we first saw him at Development Camp. I thought he was a winger more than a defenseman. At first, he was up and down the ice the whole time, so it’s like that’s great. You’ve got assertive guys. It’s better to coach it back than having to push a guy every night to do that, so he always had that in him, his willingness to try to make a play. And I think what they’ve done in Providence is try to balance that. They’ve done a good job of hey this is a time, this is not a time. Find that happy medium so you’re still playing your strength, but you’re not reckless. I think he’s done a terrific job with that since he’s been here. We have not had to talk to him much about when to go, when not to go. To me, it’s more about getting him revved up and playing from the puck drop, which is the case and typical of a lot of young guys. When the pucks drops be ready to go, be on time, and I think he’s responded well for us.

BOSTON BRUINS DEFENSEMAN MATT GRZELCYK On his two goals tonight… Yeah I think we were expecting a very physical game out of them. It’s something that we kind of had that experience going up against Columbus in the second round so we didn’t get phased by that game and I think we responded really well. We knew how important it was to take advantage of home ice so I’m glad we got the win today.

On how special it was to score two goals today… I think again it was kind of the importance of taking advantage of home ice and we came out ready to go and that’s been a strength of our team throughout the playoffs so. I think going into the game we were a little lackadaisical with the puck in game one in the second period and they were able to capitalize on a few chances so that’s something that we talked about. Obviously we wanted a full 60 minute effort and I thought we played really well in the second period as well. We kind of just didn’t allow them to get momentum as Tormey [Krug] alluded to and we were just able to play a pretty strong 60 minute game and we’re going to need a good effort in game three.

On what his mother has meant to him and his career… Yeah she means the world. She’s someone that I talk to every single day and probably my best friend. Her and my dad obviously mean a lot to me and I wouldn’t be in this position without them and it’s great to share this experience with my family and friends and just getting the win in game 2 of the Eastern Conference Finals you don’t want to allow yourself to kind of sit back and relax and think too much about it but honestly it’s really special right now and it’s fun to ride this one out and go into game three and have another strong effort.

On what it means to score with Bobby Orr in the building on the anniversary of his famous goal… Yeah I mean just to be on the stage and be apart of the team, I kind of just pinch myself everyday just really excited to be coming into the rink and be apart of the team and try to add as much as I can to it and it’s really fun right now. You try not to think about the outside distractions or anything too much but try to stay in the moment and capitalize on the opportunity. You get to see Bobby Orr walking around and it’s pretty cool. You just try to enjoy the experience with the guys. I’ve

seen him a few times walking into the rink but never really had the chance to speak too much to him but nothing but great things to say to him.

BOSTON BRUINS DEFENSEMAN TOREY KRUG On the team performing so well against the Sebastian Aho line… Yeah it’s been a good matchup for us. A lot of fun for sure. I think we’ve limited their odd man rush opportunities and I think that’s been a strength of not only our defensive pairing and that line but our team in general. If we can squash this line in the neutral zone and really limit their chances off the rush then it doesn’t allow them to get any momentum going and then in the defensive zone it’s just clamping down on time and space. It’s what we talk about all the time. Take away time and space from great players and you don’t have as much time to make plays and we’ll just try to keep it up.

On Matt Grzelcyk scoring two goals today… Yeah it was fun to watch. You know I’ve been one of Grz’s [Matt Grzelcyk]biggest fans since he came in the league and we joke about it all the time now that we have a couple of guys under 5’- 10” winning games in the and three defenseman under six foot so we’re causing havoc and doing the job. It’s a lot of fun to watch him play and when he’s skating there is no one that can skate like him and break out pucks and we take a lot of pride in that so it was fun to watch he scoot around today.

On what they have seen in Connor Clifton’s offensive game… I think it’s his instincts that are the strength of his game and it’s fun to watch. We call it Cliffy Hockey because he just goes out there and plays like no one else and he just thrives off instincts. The offensive part of it, he sees a chance, he grabs the puck and he goes and he’s not scared to hold onto it. He’s been a great addition to this defensive group and obviously something we can hopefully capture and move forward and continue to provide offense from that guy.

On the Bruins having 19 different goal scorers in the playoffs)… Well the guys are coming to play at the right time. Depth scoring is so crucial for playoffs. Most of the time when you see a matchup, the two big lines are going head to head, that kind of washes each other out typically over a series and then you have the depth scoring that comes into play and that’s what wins you games and series so we have it right now, we want to bottle that up and continue to use it to our advantage. I said it all along that if we were going to make it and go on a run, it was going to be those bottom two lines that feed energy into this team and score big timely goals and we’re going to need that going forward.

On what kind of chirping goes on with all of the local guys in the locker room… Quite a bit. It’s all in good fun. The mayor of Charlestown is sitting next to me. Look that’s important to our team. I think guys that take a lot of pride putting the sweater on with the spoked B, I think no one takes it for granted that’s for sure. As a whole, as a group, we’re very prideful. When you have local guys coming in and doing it, having the success that they’ve had, it’s a special feeling for them I’m sure and we all get a little bit of energy off of it. We definitely give them a little bit behind the scenes and I’m glad we can enjoy this day.

BOSTON BRUINS DEFENSEMAN CHARLIE MCAVOY

On tonight’s game play… I think tonight was a really good game for us. I think we played our game, we played to our culture and obviously we were able to break through and score some goals there and that’s good for everyone’s confidence. But it’s over now and we’re headed down there. We have a lot of respect for this team and we know that they’ll play a lot better next game.

On how much of the Bruins culture is taking hits and responding with goals… I think that’s a lot to do with it. They’re going to play physical and we are too. I think it’s really about just weathering that, and trying to make simple plays, just advancing pucks and keeping them out of danger areas.

On how good it was to see Matt Grzelcyk come up with that first goal… Aw man, he’s a gamer. So he’s going to get hit like that and we had no doubt he was going to come back and play his game – he always does. He’s a rock for us and he played awesome tonight. I couldn’t be happier for him to break through and get a couple. You know, the first one is a great shot and the second one he showed just the kind of skill he has, you know, a lot of patience there to cut it back and make that play.

On balanced scoring up and down the lineup… Our depth. You know, we believe in everyone in this locker room. Cliffy [Connor Clifton] gets his first goal there – I mean that’s awesome. And then like you said, all four lines are contributing so we’re going to need those efforts moving forward. We have all the confidence in the world in our guys to continue to play that way.

On the mindset as the series shifts to Carolina… Like I said, we’re onto the next. We can take away positives and learn from tonight, you know, clear up a couple things. We’re going down to their building, we know that they play well there, so we just really have to enjoy right now and as soon as we leave the rink, it’s on to Game 3. You know, refocusing, resetting, and getting ready to play in a hostile environment and we just plan to play to our standards and our culture.

On this being the first time Carolina is down 2-0 in a series… Well like I alluded to earlier, we have a lot of respect for them. You don’t get here by accident so we know that they are going to be better next game, there’s certain aspects where we can do better as well so we got to learn from this, enjoy it, and once we leave, get ready for Game 3. Going down there, you know, we’re on a mission.

On what he most appreciates about Matt Grzelcyk’s game… I mean, everything, I think he’s such a good player so whether he’s scoring goals or getting points, he’s always doing the right thing. He moves the pucks as good as anyone, he’s really good at finding the middle of the ice. He plays with patience and poise and he does so much of the good stuff – for someone of his stature he defends really hard so I mean, I couldn’t be happier for him to break through tonight and get a couple goals. He really led the way for us on the back end.

On if Matt Grzelcyk’s local connections make a game like tonight better…

Yeah, it’s crazy. We have Wags [Chris Wagner], Chuckie [Charlie Coyle], and Griz [Matt Grzelcyk] all local guys playing in the playoffs, Conference Final, all of them are producing and playing great hockey right now. I’m sure they have a lot of family that comes to each game and friends and people that they grew up with. To play the way that they have been playing, they’ve been huge for us, to do it at home in front of everybody I’m sure is a lot more special.

On Matt Grzelcyk learning it all from a great University… Yeah, exactly, they just breed studs there.

BOSTON BRUINS DEFENSEMAN ZDENO CHARA On tonight’s game play… It’s never easy, it’s challenging. But we end up playing well, and tonight was a good example of playing a full 60-minute game and you know, you’re going to look at some stuff again tomorrow and make probably some adjustments for Game 3, but as of right now, it’s nice that we got another win.

On Matt Grzelcyk’s ability to impact the game… Well he’s not the biggest guy, but he plays well. It doesn’t mean that he’s running people over the boards but he gets into position and I think that he – it shows that he’s getting better and better. He goes to areas where you can get, you know, pucks, and retrieve pucks and get under forward’s sticks and winning those battles.

On if Matt Grzelcyk taking those hits sets a tone… Yeah, it does. That’s playoffs – there are times where you have to take a hit to make a play.

On Matt Grzelcyk growing up in the area and having a game like he did… I’m sure it’s a pretty special feeling. He’s obviously been here for a few years so I’m sure everyone is proud of him.

On the scoring being wide across the roster… Well it’s definitely nice that you don’t have to rely on three or four guys every night. You’re getting the contribution from everybody and that’s what you need. Different guys, different lines, stepping up in different games in different times. We got that so you know, I think that it’s nice to see players that aren’t known for scoring goals getting rewarded for hard work. You know, that’s something that at this time of the year nobody really cares who scores the goals, as long as we keep winning games.

BOSTON BRUINS FORWARD JAKE DEBRUSK On winning two games… We did what we wanted to do and that’s get two wins, it was in a matter that we liked as well. Obviously they’re going to have their crowd behind them in game three but looking at it right now it’s going as planned.

On whole team contributing… I think that anytime you have multiple guys helping your team out in that aspect it makes us a hard team to beat. Going into the third period with a lead like that kind of set the tone in that way,

especially with some big penalty kills early on in the game. It was a lot closer than it seemed like, for us to execute those plays it’s nice to see and hopefully that can keep going.

On keeping the lead… Obviously you understand they’re going to push, it’s the playoffs. You just try to keep things simple and like you said stay disciplined. Anytime that you get into penalty trouble it could make the game a little more interesting, especially in these playoffs we’ve all seen it. We just try to stay out of the box and try to stay in it, try to stay hungry and keep it urgent, play for Tuukka [Rask].

On scoring from the whole lineup… I think it takes pressure off everyone when they’re doing well. Obviously that was our thing at the start of the year was depth scoring, it’s coming at the right time. Obviously every game is different, we’re going to enjoy this one tonight but go back to the drawing board for game three there. They’ll come out harder, I think even harder than they did tonight, they came out physical and played their style. It’s not going to be easy by any means, it’s going to get tougher and tougher, that’s what we’re expecting.

BOSTON BRUINS FORWARD MARCUS JOHANNSSON On the importance of the first goal given Carolina’s strong start… It is always big to get the first goal. I think after that we really got to our game. It felt like almost 60 minutes we played the right way tonight. We earned that, I thought it was a well-executed game. The first goal is a big goal, might have been a different game if they got the first one but we played the right way. When we do that, I think we’re really tough to stop, tonight we had four lines going, that’s always good.

On whether he had more room to operate than he expected on the team’s first goal… No not really. Charlie [Coyle] did a great job giving me a little pick, giving me some room. It’s a game of mistakes and when you get your chances you have to take them. It was a great goal by Grizz [Matt Grzelcyk].

On how his confidence has grown with linemates Charlie Coyle and Danton Heinen… The more we play together the better it feels. We really trust each other out there and we get to know each other more and more each day. So far it has been good, and hopefully we can keep it going.

On how nice it is to contribute points… Yeah it always does. It’s always fun to be a part of it like that but I think the whole team played well. We had enough chances to score as many goals as we did, if not more. When Tuukka [Rask] is playing like that I think he gives everyone confidence as well. It’s been feeling good, it’s always fun to see a few pucks go in—it never hurts.

On playing a complete 60 minutes… It’s huge but I think we saw in the other game in the first two periods we needed to play a little better we needed to step up a little bit and what we did in the third period [of Game 1] that showed what we got out from it. Like you said, I think we did that for 60 minutes tonight. It’s one of the strengths of this team. We all saw what we needed to do last game and we went out and did it.

BOSTON BRUINS DEFENSEMAN CONNOR CLIFTON On what he saw on the pass from Marcus Johannson that led to his first career NHL goal… Had a little rush there and ended up behind the goal line, I threw it to—I think it was Heino [Danton Heinen] there—something bobbled around and I stayed net-front and had a wide-open net. It was pretty easy.

On his feeling when he saw the wide-open net… It was great, something special. Something I will always remember. It was a solid effort by everyone, and it was a great win.

On him being the 19th different Bruin to score this postseason and what it says about the team… I think it’s pretty self-explanatory, obviously there’s a lot of character in this room. We don’t rely too heavily on one individual and it’s very team-oriented and it is awesome.

On Matt Grzelyck’s goal after he took a big hit near the Bruins bench from Michael Ferland… Yeah that was awesome. I was on the bench for that first one, it was awesome, jumping up and down obviously like every goal, but good for him he was a mad-man tonight.

On being up 2-0 in this series… I think that’s huge; we work all year to get that home ice first. Up 2-0 is something special, obviously we have to fix some things. Just need to get ready for Game 3.

BOSTON BRUINS FORWARD BRAD MARCHAND On the physical style of the game… That’s kind of what they do, I think they surprised us early. Later in the year they came in here after the deadline and they played pretty physical so we kind of expected that, they’ve been like that all series and all playoffs, it’s allowed them to be successful. We were ready for that game and the guys did a good job at bouncing back from some big hits early on, [Matt] Grzelcyk took a big one and scored a couple shifts later. Guys were feeling it tonight.

On the team responding throughout playoffs… I think it’s more just us preparing to play our game and teams adjusting a little bit to the way we play. Playoffs is a chess match, you change little things every single day regardless if you win or lose. You look at the tape, you make adjustments, they’ll do that again next game, we’ll do the same. We know that teams are going to try to play physical with us, that’s playoff hockey we’re trying to do the same thing.

BOSTON BRUINS GOALTENDER TUUKKA RASK On if it was as good of a game as the team has played… Yeah, I think so. The whole 60 we were on them. We played hard. We really didn’t give them an inch. So, it was a great solid 60 from everybody.

On if they broke Carolina’s spirit with this win…

No, I don’t think so. Teams don’t make it to this round, you know, if they don’t have their tough group of guys. It’s two to nothing, that’s good. We took care of business at home, which is what we wanted to do, now try to transfer that on the road.

On Bruins responding with goals to Carolina’s physicality… Yeah, they did. I think that’s the best way to respond, to score goals and we did that. Especially Grizzy [Grzelcyk] who got smoked on the boards and came back and scored a goal. It’s great to see.

On what Grzelcyk means to the Bruins… Well he’s a great skater and he battles hard, moves the puck extremely well. Great to see him get rewarded offensively.

On if he feels for the other goaltender… No, been there. It’s just the game of hockey.

BOSTON BRUINS FORWARD DANTON HEINEN On leaving Boston with two wins going to Carolina… Yeah, I thought we had a great game all around. One of our best efforts this playoffs, like 60 minutes. We took care of business at home. We know it’s a tough place to play in there, so we are going to have to be ready.

On creating chances… Yeah, I think we handled the puck a lot better. We put it in better spots and took away a little bit of their transition game and, you know, bring up the puck and spend more time in their end.

On if he was surprised by a push after he scored… Yeah, I didn’t really know what happened. It was just kind of a dog pile. I haven’t really seen it.

On the team having 19 different goal scorers… Yeah, I think we are obviously a deep team. You know everybody is kind of pulling on the rope. It’s a sign of a good team.

On Bruins depth being a key to success… Yeah, I think, it’s been huge all year. Guys have been stepping up you know it. You have confidence in going through four lines, all 60 and both goalies.

On being comfortable with a 2-0 lead… No, you can never be comfortable. Like I said, we know it’s going to be tougher in their building. They play well in there and so, yeah, we have to be ready.

CAROLINA HURRICANES HEAD COACH ROD BRIND’AMOUR On if the Bruins are doing something that makes it tough for them to get to their game… Well, they’re a good team. It’s always difficult when you’re playing good teams, and we’re not helping ourselves, but I don’t know if they’re doing anything specific. They’re a good team.

On if he’s considering a goalie change for Game 3… I don’t know. We haven’t gotten there, we’ve still got to let this one digest a little bit and then move forward.

On Petr Mrazek’s performance… Well, the first one was no good, and he knows that. That’s a tough one. Nothing was kind of going on, really either way for either team, which is what we want, to start a game, and that was a tough one, and then, unfortunately, Willie’s [Justin Williams] penalty is probably not a penalty, and then that leads to the second one, and that’s what happened. Now, we open up, now we get away from even trying to do what we want to do, and there’s zero success when we do it that way, so tough night.

On if he considered pulling Mrazek in this game… Yeah, we talked about it. But he doesn’t want to come out, he is a battler. A lot of other guys on the bench deserve to come out if that’s how we are doing it so it’s not how we do it. Like I said the only one I thought he’d love to have back was that first one and he will tell you that. I haven’t even talked to him but I know that. If I let him off the hook, I have to let everyone off the hook. If he wants to battle it out, then that’s how we need to go about it.

On if he saw uncharacteristic frustrations… Yeah, we got a little frustrated. After the second one went in I think but yeah we weren’t very good after the first period. The last five minutes of the first and through the rest of the game, we got off our game. Give them credit, they, there is a reason we got off our game, they’re learning us.

On if he was surprised that it was Justin got the penalty battling Marchand… I don’t even know what that was. The penalty, that second one? Is that what you’re talking about? Yeah, I got no comment there.

On if battling out is why the Hurricanes haven’t been pulling the goalie all season… I mean how many games have we even, maybe one other one that I can remember that was even remotely like this so, at the end of the day, he doesn’t want to come out and he has earned that right from me to stay in there and it wasn’t his fault, the way the game was. So we got to regroup and that’s all you can do.

CAROLINA HURRICANES FORWARD JUSTIN WILLIAMS On where the game went sideways… Where did it get sideways? Pretty early. Pretty early.

On not executing on the power play… Yeah, that’s one area that’s deflating. We lost the special teams battle. That’s not good.

On if he got an explanation for his holding penalty… No, but I’ve got to know better. I’ve just got to know better. I’m old enough, I should be able to know better.

On getting more traffic in front of the net…

I think, just all in all, we’ve got to rediscover who we are. You know, you spend all this time off leading up, and everyone writing articles about how great we are, and you come out and sometimes you’ve got to eat a poop sandwich. It doesn’t taste good. You have to chew on it for a little bit, and we’ll have to do it for a couple days and get the taste out of our mouths next game.

On how they can bounce back… We’ve done it before. Experience—that’s what we lean on right now.

On leaning on the Washington series… I think that just comes with experience. I don’t think we—we certainly don’t think we can’t do it. But, you know, if they are going to advance, we’re certainly going to make it as tough as we can on them, and it won’t be easy, so we’ll chew on it, and game three is ours, hopefully.

On what they have to do next game to find their identity… Well, we just made it too easy. We’ve turned over way too many pucks, and our identity is below the tops of the circles, and our identity hasn’t been established in this series, so far.

On if he’s disappointed in himself for engaging with Brad Marchand… Yeah, I’m disappointed in general, yeah. Absolutely. I’ve got to know better.

CAROLINA HURRICANES GOALTENDER PETR MRAZEK On if he was surprised he started the third and if he wanted to start the period… Yeah, of course I wanted to stay in that whole game. It’s a simple answer.

On the Washington series and if they can come back again… Yeah, it’s two-nothing. We’ve been in this situation before. We’re going home. We know what we can do at home, so we have to shake it off and, you know, start thinking about our next one.

On what he can do better… I just have to stop more pucks than I did today, that’s for sure. I just have to be better, for sure, in everything.

On if the time off between series hurt the team… I don’t think so. I didn’t think it was that long of a break. You know, it was maybe nine or 10 days, but I was feeling pretty good. We need to look past, just look forward for the next one.

On what the team needs to do… You know, it’s hard after tonight, but I think in Game 1 in the first and second period, we played well, so play our game.

CAROLINA HURRICANES FORWARD MICHAEL FERLAND On if he felt like he got back to his game… Yeah, I felt a couple big hits there, and after that, I felt perfectly fine. You know, the biggest thing for myself was try to get back to the pace of play, and the next thing was, you know, try to make some big hits and see how I feel, and yeah, I feel good.

On finding their identity… Yeah, I just think we got away from the grind game. You know, we’re all about putting pucks deep and wearing guys down, grinding it out, and I think we got away from that.

On if the Bruins’ offense is doing more or if the Hurricanes defense isn’t doing enough… I think a little bit of both. You know, they’ve got some big, strong defensemen. You know, it’s hard to get to the front of the net, but at the same time, you know, with our speed, we’ve got to take advantage of that.

On bouncing back… I think, you know, like I said, we’ve just got to get back to playing our game, and you know, that’s just grinding them down, and you know, they’re not the prettiest games to watch, but I think that’s just, you know, the way we need to play.

On if this game is easier to forget than Game 1… I don’t know how to answer that one.

CAROLINA HURRICANES FORWARD TEUVO TERAVAINEN On if the Bruins were doing something special defensively… No, I don’t know. It’s just, sometimes, it’s just tough. You don’t get the bounces. I think we got a couple good looks, it was just a little off. We’ve got to figure it out.

On if the Bruins are doing something that makes it tough for them to get to their game… I don’t know, not really. We just haven’t found our game yet. We’ve just got to put this behind now and try to stay positive, and it’s still early in the series, so we’ve got to go home now and just battle through.

On if playing down 2-0 takes away their energy… I don’t know, just try shift by shift and try to play our best, but today just wasn’t our best, and that’s what happened.

On what they need to do next game… I don’t know. Tough to think now, but just we don’t have to really think about these games now. Let’s just put it behind, and we’ve got to find a way to be better, everyone.

On Justin Williams losing his cool… Yeah, I don’t know. Small things happen in the game, and that’s it.
