Thompson was originally hired to coach the Sound Tigers on June 28, 2011 and led the team to a division title in 2011-12 before being named assistant South Division coach of the Islanders for two seasons (2012-14). On May 2, 2014, the Islanders announced Thompson would return to his role as head coach of the Sound Tigers. He is 246-203-50 in 499 career regular-season games as Bridgeport's head coach. Thompson became the Sound Tigers' all-time winningest head coach on Jan. 28, 2017, passing Jack Capuano with his 134th career victory. Prior to his time in Bridgeport, Thompson served as head coach of the Alaska Aces (ECHL) for two years (2009-11), winning the Kelly Cup Championship in 2011. During his two seasons as head coach in Alaska, Thompson amassed a record of 83- 50-11 and won the John Brophy Award as ECHL Coach of the Year in 2011 after leading the team to a record of 47-22-3. Thompson also served as a player/coach with the CHL’s Colorado Eagles in 2003-04 and was an assistant with the AHL’s Peoria Rivermen from 2005-09. Before joining the coaching ranks, Thompson enjoyed a 14-year professional playing career from 1991-2005, which included 121 NHL games and more than 900 professional contests. The Calgary, AB native was originally drafted by the Los Angeles Kings in the second round (39th overall) of the 1989 NHL Entry Draft.

Colorado ends the 2017-18 regular season with a 19-11-2 overall record against the Eastern Conference, including an 11-4-1 mark on home ice. Andrew Hammond made his Avalanche debut, finishing with 31 saves in his first NHL contest since Feb. 7, 2017. The Avs were 2-for-2 on the penalty kill and are now 110-for-119 (92.4%) on the PK at home this season, the best home penalty kill in the league. With two home games remaining, Colorado is within reach of the NHL’s best-ever home PK percentage, 92.4%, set by the 1998-99 Boston Bruins. Matt Nieto’s second-period tally was his 24th point of the season, his highest total since he collected a career-high 27 during the 2014-15 campaign. Shayne Gostisbehere became the fourth defenseman in Flyers history to reach the 60- point threshold, joining Mark Howe (3x), Garry Galley (2x) and Behn Wilson. Claude Giroux extended his point streak to six games (1g, 9a) and registered his 93rd point of the season, matching a career high he set in 2011-12. Colorado G Andrew Hammond On His Performance: “I was able to get in a game on the weekend so I think that definitely helped. I think it took me a period to get my legs under me. The unfortunate part is I guess the game-winning goal ended up getting scored in that period but as the game went on, I settled in and started to feel better.

PAUL, Minn. - Northeastern junior forward Adam Gaudette (Braintree, Mass.) has been awarded the 2018 Hobey Baker Memorial Award given annually to the best player in NCAA Division I men’s ice hockey it was announced tonight East Player of the Year. The award was presented in conjunction with the 2018 Frozen Four in St. Paul. Gaudette was also named to the CCM/AHCA All-American First Team. Gaudette becomes the 10th player in Hockey East history to collect college hockey’s highest individual award, and the first since Boston College’sJohnny Gaudreau and Boston University’s Jack Eichel were so honored in consecutive seasons in 2014 and 2015, respectively. Criteria for the award includes displaying outstanding skills in all phases of the game, strength of character on and off the ice, sportsmanship and scholastic achievements. Gaudette tops off a historic 2017-18 season that saw him become just the third Northeastern player to be named the Hockey East Player of the Year and the second Husky skater to earn the honor after Zach Aston-Reese was tabbed as the league’s best player last season. The Braintree, Massachusetts native lead the NCAA in goals (30), points (60), points per game (1.58) and power-play points (27) in just 38 games played.
