Julie Braman Kane, a partner of Colson Hicks Edison, has over fifteen years’ experience in personal injury, medical malpractice, products liability, commercial and class action litigation, and has handled multiple multi-million dollar verdicts and settlements involving significant injury. She has served as President of the Miami- Dade Chapter of FAWL. She is actively involved in the American Association for Justice (AAJ), where she serves on the Board of Governors, the Justice PAC Board of Trustees, and the National Board of Advocates Board of Trustees.

Detra Shaw-Wilder, a litigation partner at Kozyak, Tropin & Throckmorton, concentrates in business law, complex commercial litigation, and borrowers in matters related to commercial financing transactions. She represents a diverse range of clients in matters brought in state and federal courts. Florida Trend magazine has recognized her as an “Up and Comer” in the South Florida legal community; she was named one of the most influential business people under the age of 40 by Network Miami Magazine; and South Florida CEO magazine has recognized her as a “Next Generation” leader.

Hassia Diolombi, a partner at Shook, Hardy & Bacon LLP, is a member of her firm’s Global Product Liability Group. She concentrates on cases involving mass torts and class action product liability claims and has represented Fortune 500 companies and government entities in a broad range of litigation matters. Ms. Diolombi is a 2012 Leadership Council on Legal Diversity Fellow. She recently served a two-year term as a member of the firm’s Diversity Committee and the Retention, Advancement, and Promotion Subcommittee. She was named a 2010, 2011 and 2012 "Rising Star" by Florida Super Lawyers.

Corali Lopez-Castro, managing partner at Kozyak Tropin & Throckmorton, concentrates her practice on bankruptcy and commercial litigation matters. She has extensive experience and expertise in a wide range of bankruptcy and insolvency matters, including bankruptcy reorganizations and liquidations, and litigates before federal and state courts locally and around the United States. Ms. Lopez-Castro was the second woman president of the Cuban American Bar Association. She has earned recognition in Chambers USA’s America’s Leading Lawyers for Business and Florida Trend’s Legal Elite for her practice in business law, and received the

The goal of the Trial Skills Workshop is to assist women trial attorneys in improving their trial skills. It utilizes a “learning by doing” format. Gill S. Freeman is a Circuit Court Judge in the 11th Judicial Circuit, Miami-

Dade County. She is presently assigned to the Family Law Division. She was previously assigned to the Complex Business Litigation Section of the Circuit Court, the first judge to serve in that capacity in Miami Dade County. Prior to her appointment to the bench in 1997, Judge Freeman practiced commercial and family law for 20 years. She received her Bachelors of Education from Temple University, her Masters of Education from the University of Miami and her Juris Doctor, Cum Laude, from the University of Miami.

She is presently Chair of the Board of Trustees of the Miami-Dade County Law Library and has spearheaded fundraising efforts to keep the library open, despite recent cuts in government funding. She is also Dean of Advanced Judicial Studies for the State of Florida. She was formerly Chair of the Florida Supreme Court Standing Committee on Diversity and Fairness. She was Vice-Chair of the Florida Supreme Court Gender Bias Study Commission and Chair of the Gender Bias Study Implementation Commission. Recently, Judge Freeman received The Jewish Federation of Greater Miami Community Service Award, a Special Recognition Award from the Cuban American Bar Association and Sabadell Bank’s Community Service Award. In 2008, Judge Freeman was invited to be a panelist at the State Department on issues of International Access to Justice. She is past president of the Florida Association for Women Lawyers and a recipient of the FAWL’s Rosemary Barkett Outstanding Achievement Award. Mary Barzee Flores, a litigation shareholder at Stearns Weaver Miller Alhadeff & Sitterson, P.A., represents individuals and corporations in complex commercial litigation and arbitration. In 1990, she joined the Federal Public Defender’s Office where for twelve years, trying over 40 federal jury trials to verdict throughout the Southern District of Florida. In 2003, Ms. Barzee joined the bench of the 11th Judicial Circuit, Miami-Dade County. She presided over thousands of cases, tried over a hundred civil and criminal jury trials to verdict and heard appeals from the county court and various administrative bodies. Among other appointments over the course of

her career, she has served on the Florida Innocence Commission and the Florida Supreme Court Criminal Court Steering Committee.

Breezye Telfair has been employed as an Assistant State Attorney with the Miami-Dade State Attorney's Office for seven years. During her time as an Assistant State Attorney, Ms. Telfair has focused primarily on homicide cases and has tried approximately 40 trials to verdict. Currently, Ms. Telfair investigates and prosecutes Hate Crime, Public Corruption and Homicide cases.

Edith Osman, a partner at Carlton Fields, P.A., practices in the areas of business litigation, matrimonial law, and mediation. She has significant experience representing clients in dissolution of marriage proceedings, post-divorce modifications and enforcement, child custody, property evaluation, equitable distribution of marital assets, pre & post nuptial agreements, and paternity actions. Ms. Osman’s contributions to the community are too numerous to list. Highlights include her service as a member of the Board of Governors of the American Bar Association; the second female president of The Florida Bar; and president of the Florida Supreme Court Historical Society. She is a past president of both FAWL and of the Miami-Dade Chapter.

Jacqueline Hogan Scola, Circuit Judge of the 11th Judicial Circuit, currently sits in the Civil Division. Judge Scola was elected to the circuit court bench without opposition in 2003 and again in 2009. In 2000-2001, she served as president of FAWL, having previously served as secretary and treasurer. The Miami-Dade Chapter awarded Judge Scola the Mattie Belle Davis Award in 2007. She teaches in the Litigation Skills Program at the University of Miami School of Law. She is also chair of the Florida Supreme Court Committee on Jury Instructions in Criminal Cases, and is a member of the Florida Bar Rules of Civil Procedure Committee.

The Honorable Victoria Platzer has been a Circuit Court Judge of the 11th Judicial Circuit since 1995. She presently serves in the Civil Division, having previously been assigned to the Extended Trial Division, the Family Division, the Criminal Division, and the Juvenile Division. Prior to joining the bench, Judge Platzer practiced in civil litigation, and served as Hearing Examiner for the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission. She is a member of the faculty at the College for Advanced Judicial Studies, Florida Judicial College, and the Conference of Circuit and County Judges. Since 2000, she has been an adjunct professor at the University of Miami School of Law,

th The Honorable Ellen L. Leesfield, Circuit Court Judge of the 11 Judicial Circuit, was appointed to the bench in 1993. She is presently assigned to the General Jurisdiction Division, having previously served in the Extended Trial Division and the Criminal Division. Prior to joining the bench, Judge Leesfield was a trial lawyer. She tried more than 60 cases, focusing in the areas of complex criminal cases, as well as age, race and sex discrimination cases. The Judge is a founder and former president of the Miami-Dade County Chapter of FAWL, and among her accomplishments, she engineered the first FAWL Scholarship Fundraiser and assisted in establishing perpetual funding for this program.

The Honorable Diane Ward, Circuit Court Judge of the 11th Judicial Circuit, presently serves in the Civil Division. Having joined the bench in 2003, she previously served in the Criminal Division and Juvenile Division. Prior to joining the bench, Judge Ward’s private criminal defense practice focused on capital litigation. She also practiced at the Public Defender’s Office in Miami for several years. Judge Ward has participated in over 100 jury trials as an attorney and presided over more than 100 jury trials as Circuit Court Judge. She is currently a member of the Education Committee for the Florida Conference of Circuit Judges.

The Honorable Beatrice A. Butchko was appointed to the Circuit Court of the 11th Judicial Circuit in 2005. She has served in the Juvenile Dependency Division and Criminal Division, and presently serves in the Civil Division. Judge Butchko began her legal career as an Assistant State Attorney in Miami-Dade County, where she tried over 80 jury trials, and was a member of the Organized Crime Unit, served as Assistant Chief of the Career Criminal Unit, and as a Division Chief. Prior to taking her seat on the bench, Judge Butchko also worked in private practice. She is an adjunct law professor at the University of Miami School of Law and a visiting adjunct professor at Emory University Law School, where she teaches litigation skills. Tanya Brinkley has served as the Civil Traffic Infraction Hearing Officer in the Traffic Division of Miami-Dade County Court since 2004. She also functions in an administrative capacity where she resolves various motions for relief and participates in training new hearing officers. In addition to her current duties, she served as a sole representative of the Miami-Dade County Court, Traffic Division at the First Annual Statewide Hearing Officer Conference. She is actively involved in her community and donates countless hours of pro bono legal services through various organizations in Miami-Dade County. Recently, she was awarded the 2010 Wilkie D. Ferguson, Jr. Bar Association Pro Bono Award and the 2009 Ray Pearson Guardian Ad Litem Pro Bono Award by the 11th Judicial Circuit, Family Division Judges for her representation of children in contested family cases.

Maria Rubio, The Law Offices of Maria L. Rubio, P.A., practices diverse areas of civil litigation in state and federal courts including professional malpractice cases, products liability cases, brain and spinal cord injury, birth defect, automobile and trucking accidents, construction site accidents, aviation cases, maritime cases, nursing home and assisted living facility claims, insurance litigation, and toxic chemical litigation. She was recognized by Florida Trend magazine as one of the Florida Legal Elite (2004, 2005, 2009, 2010), by Law & Politics magazine as a Florida Super Lawyers (2009, 2010) and as a Preeminent Women Lawyer by Martindale Hubbell (2011).

Jayne Weintraub, Sale & Weintraub, P.A., represents individuals under investigation or charged with criminal offenses in federal courts throughout the United States and Puerto Rico as well as in various local state courts. She concentrates on pre-trial preparation and deposition strategies. She has brought more than 100 jury trials to verdict. During her time as an Assistant State Attorney, she tried more than 50 jury trials. As a defense lawyer, she has successfully represented clients in trials which were covered by Court TV. Ms. Weintraub was recognized by Florida Trend magazine as one of the Florida Legal Elite (2012) and by Law & Politics magazine as a Florida Super Lawyer (2011, 2012).

Katie S. Phang, of Arrastia, Capote & Phang, LLP, concentrates her practice in trying cases in both state and federal courts. She has tried literally dozens of jury and bench trials, representing plaintiffs and defendants in a wide range of civil and commercial disputes. Her experience is not limited to civil cases, and as a former prosecutor and division chief in both Miami-Dade County and Broward County, she has handled matters ranging from misdemeanors to death penalty felonies.

Cynthia Barnett Hibnick, of Cynthia Barnett Hibnick, P.A., is a civil trial attorney with over 28 years trial experience in state and federal courts. Her practice focuses on representation of Florida healthcare providers and businesses, as well as medical malpractice and professional liability defense, regulatory and administrative claims defense, and credentialing and privileges dispute resolution. She is a member of numerous associations, and served on FAWL’s board of directors for several years.
