DAVID RYU BECOMES THIRD L.A. COUNCILMEMBER TO ENDORSE MIKE FONG FOR ASSEMBLY

Los Angeles, CA – City Councilmember announced his endorsement of Mike Fong for State Assembly today. Ryu is the third L.A. City Councilmember, joining and , to back Fong’s campaign.

In announcing his endorsement, Ryu stated: “Mike Fong’s record of community leadership, which includes important roles at city hall and on our college board, makes him an ideal candidate to represent Los Angeles in the state legislature. He has experience rolling up his sleeves and getting things done on a wide range of policy issues that impact the 51st Assembly District, and his commitment to the progressive values of our Democratic Party is unquestionable. I am looking forward to playing an active role in Mike’s campaign for State Assembly.”

David Ryu was elected in 2015 to represent Los Angeles’s 4th City Council District. He is Los Angeles’s first Korean-American Councilmember.

As an elected trustee on the board of America’s largest community college district, Mike Fong works to increase student access to higher education, expand workforce training, and improve the quality of educational opportunities available at Los Angeles’s nine community colleges.

Mike currently serves as Director of Policy and Government Relations for the City of Los Angeles Department of Neighborhood Empowerment. He previously served as the East Area Director for Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa, acting as the primary liaison between the mayor’s office and the communities of Northeast and East Los Angeles. Mike also worked as an aide to former Los Angeles City Councilmember Ed Reyes, whose district was entirely contained within the 51st Assembly District.

A lifelong Angeleno, Mike holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Psychobiology from the University of , Los Angeles, and a Master of Public Administration from California State University at Northridge. Growing up, he attended schools in the 51st Assembly District including Bravo High School, Eagle Rock High School (summer school), Lincoln High School (summer school), Griffith Junior High, Nightingale Junior High (summer school), and Castelar Elementary School.
