Miss Carbonneau’s 2nd Grade Class Research Project DINOSAURS OVIRAPTOR ´ The Oviraptor dinosaur is awesome. Its name means egg thief. Scientists thought that it stole eggs, but then they figured out that they were just protecting their own eggs from other dinosaurs. ´ The Oviraptor weighed 73 pounds and was 3 feet tall. It ate meat, so it was a carnivore . It had a crest on its head that looked like a Mohawk, and orange spots on its back. It walked on two legs and had two short arms used for picking up its prey. They were special because they were very fast. ´ An interesting fact about the Oviraptor is that it had two bony spikes in its mouth. Its mouth looked like a beak. Scientists think the spikes in its mouth were used to crack open eggs or shellfish. ´ In conclusion, even though the Oviraptor is extinct I wish it was still alive because if you trained him,,g it might be a g gpood pet. By: Landon PARASAUROLOPHUS ´ The Parasaurolophus dinosaur is beautiful. Its name means crested lizard. It weighed about 2 tons and was 33 feet long. It ate plants, leaves, twigs and pine cones. This dinosaur had a dent in the back of its crested head and a horn on it. ´ An interesting fact about the Parasaurolophus is that the male and female had different shaped heads. The dinosaur was also colorful and lived in herds. It could talk to other members of its group using its crest to make sounds. It was special because its crest could grow as long as a fully grown man. ´ In conclusion, I like this dinosaur because it makes noise from its crest and its skin was pebbly textured. I would like to see this dinosaur in person. By: Liberty EORAPTOR ´ The Eoraptor dinosaur is small and had hollow bones. Its name means dawn plunderer. Its weight was unknown but scientists think it was very light. It had a small body. It was 1 foot tall and 3 feet long. It walked on two legs. The Eoraptor had small teeth and sharp claws. It ate meat and other dinosaurs. Eoraptor was probably a scavenger. It had five fingers on each hand. It may have used its sharp claws to dig or grab smaller animals. The Eoraptor also had a long tail which made it look bigger. It used it to protect itself in battle. It made a loud, deep sound. ´ It was special because it was the earliest known dinosaur. It lived 228 million years ago during the Triassic period. Eoraptor has three meanings dawn raptor, dawn plunderer and dawn thief . Eorapt or fossil s are found in Argenti na, South Ameri ca. ´ In conclusion, it is my favorite dinosaur because it was small and quick. Researching dinosaurs is hard, but fun. By: Reece IGUANODON ´ The Iguanodon dinosaur is awesome to read about. Its name means iguana tooth. It weighed 4-5 tons and was 16 feet tall. It ate plants so it was an herbivore. It had 2 claws and black stripes. ´ An interesting fact about the Iguanodon is its hands were tools used to fight and gather food. The Iguanodon had no front teeth but only teeth on the side of its jaws. It was special because the Iguanodon was the second dinosaur to be named by scientists. This dinosaur had a spike on each thumb. ´ In conclusion, a person can usually find this dinosaur in museums. I enjoyed researching the Iguanodon because it was special in different ways. By: Adina TRICERATOPS ´ The Triceratops dinosaur was humungous! Its name means three horned face. It weighed 5 to 7 tons and was 30 feet long and 15 to 20 feet tall. It ate plants. It had 3 horns and a bony plate called a frill on his head. ´ An interesting fact about the triceratops is that it hatches from eggs. The triceratops was also stronger than two elephants. ´ It was specia l because it ha d tee th in his cheek that he used to chew the plants he ate. ´ In conclusion I thought my dinosaur was special because he had 3 horns on his head that he could use as protection. I also liked the fact that his beak looked like a turtle’s mouth. By: Omar BRACHIOSAURUS ´ The Brachiosaurus dinosaur is a very big saurapod. Its name means Arm Lizard. It is called that because it had longer front legs than back legs. It weighed 33 to 88 tons and was 60 to 82 feet tall and 30 to 42 feet long. It ate ferns and leaves from trees. It had a crest made of thin bone and a bulky body. ´ An interesting fact about the Brachiosaurus is that it could reach leaves on tall trees and had a tiny head. It also had nostrils on the top of its head. The brachiosaurus was also HUGE. It was special because it probably ate 90 pounds of plants a day. ´ In conclusion, Brachiosaurus is my favorite dinosaur because it has many cool features. By: Benjamin ALLOSAURUS ´ The Allosaurus dinosaur is absolutely awesome. Its name means other lizard. It weighed four thousand pounds and was seventeen feet tall. It had horns above its eyes. It had two large hind legs and two small arms. It could run on its hind legs and it used its small arms for grabbing and tearing meat. It ate other dinosaurs. The Allosaurus may have been a scavenger. ´ An interesting fact about the Allosaurus was that it was able to heal quickly. Its ribs were very fragile, but scientists found proof that Allosaurus ribs had broken and healed. Other special things about the Allosaurus were that it had a lot of teeth, it might have lived in packs, and could stretch its jaws to the side and down. ´ In conclusion, scientists compare the Allosaurus to Tyrannosaurus because they are both carnivores, they are alike in size, they both have bulky legs, little arms and have sharp teeth. To compare them yourself, you could go to the museum. By: Jackson PROTOCERATOPS ´ The Protoceratops dinosaur is awesome. Its name means first horned face. It weighed 900 pounds and was 6 to 8 feet tall. It ate plants. It had a toothless beak and it had short legs. ´ An interesting fact about the Protoceratops is that the Protoceratops was first discovered in the Gobi Desert. The Protoceratops fossil was also found with a fossil of a Velociraptor. It was special because scientists think it lived in big groups called herds. ´ In conclusion, this is a great dinosaur. It is a Protoceratops. I want one as a pet you should, too. By: Elijah APATOSAURUS ´ The Apatosaurus dinosaur was the biggest land animal ever to live. Its name means deceptive lizard. It weighed 33-38 tons and was 82 feet tall. It ate plants, so it was an herbivore. This dinosaur had a huge neck and it grew fast. ´ An interesting fact about the Apatosaurus is their nostrils were located on the top of its head. The Apatosaurus also laid huge land eggs. It was special because it did not attack other animals. ´ In conclusion,,, dinosaurs are dead, but you can visit their bones in a museum. You can see how they look as a skeleton. Don‘t forget, you can read about the dinosaurs that you want to see. By: Ella PTERANODON ´ The Pteranodon is a flying reptile. Its name means winged and toothless. It weighed 6 pounds and was 6 feet long. It ate fish. It had sharp claws, hollow bones, and a boney crest on its head. ´ An interesting fact about the Pteranodon is that its colors are all different. It might have had fur and it had stretchy skin. The Pteranodon also had a large head. ´ Pteranodon was special because it flew and its wingspan was 25-33 feet. Pteranodon was not really a dinosaur. It was a reptile and it was alive when other dinosaurs were alive. ´ In conclusion, even though it wasn’t really a dinosaur it was still close to being part of the family. Some scientists think it should be. By: Caitlyn ANKLYOSAURUS ´ The Anklyosaurus dinosaur was a spiky dinosaur. Its name means stiffened lizard. It weighed 3-4 tons and was 5.5-9 feet tall. It ate plants. It had short legs, a wide skull, a short neck, and flat teeth. ´ An interesting fact about the Anklyosaurus is it was one of the best known armed dinosaurs. It had two rows of spikes along its body. The Anklyosaurus was a cool looking dinosaur. It was special because it had a club-like tail that it used to defend itself. ´ In conclusion, the Anklyosaurus is not alive today but it was a long time ago. If it were alive today, I bet people would run away. By: Nathan DIPLODOCUS ´ The Diplodocus dinosaur is so cool. Its name means double beam. It weighed 20,000 - 40,000 pounds and was 45 feet tall. It ate leaves and ferns. It had a long neck. It moved on four legs and it was slow. ´ An interesting fact about the Diplodocus is that it was the best-known of the long-necked sauropods. It was special because the Diplodocus was more lightly built then the other giant sauropods. ´ In conclusion, you can go to a website, use books, or use fact cards to learn more about the Diplodocus. The Diplodocus is a good dinosaur because it was so big and nice. By: Gaby MAIASAURA ´ The Maiasaura dinosaur is amazing. Its name means good mother lizard.
