Lyn Williams loaned me her coat in chilly Australia and provided her very own chauffeuring services in and around Sydney; Jiří Skopal and his wife Květa hosted my husband and me in their home for several days and insisted on taking care of our every need while we were with them in both the Czech Republic and in Germany; Zimfira Poloz extended her sincere hand of friendship during my first visit to Canada and requested that I return three months later to spend another week with her and the Hamilton Children’s Choir; and finally, Jude and Maria Theresa Vizconde-Roldan went out of their way to share Filipino cuisine and culture with my husband and me as they hosted us multiple times in both their home and in Filipino restaurants. The Utah Symphony is con- ducted by Thierry Fischer. Founded in 1962, the A Cappella Choir offers singers the opportunity to perform works for larger choirs and to fi ne- tune the art of choral singing through exposure to music from Utah Chamber Artists the Renaissance through the twenty-fi rst century. Choir mem- bers hone musicianship skills such as rhythm, sight-reading, and the understanding of complex scores. They develop an understanding of the intricacies of vocal production, includ- ing pitch, and how to blend individual voices together into a unifi ed, beautiful sound. In recent years, the A Cappella Choir has become a standard of excellence in student singing in the State of Utah. Last fall, they sang Mozart’s Trinity Mass with the Utah Symphony and the Utah Symphony Chorus under the direction of Thierry Fischer. This renewed a tradition of collaboration between the choirs of the University of Utah and the Utah Symphony, and their outstanding performance resulted in invitations for return engagements in 2015. Utah Chamber Artists was established in 1991 by Barlow University of Utah Chamber Choir Bradford and James Lee Sorenson. The ensemble comprises forty singers and forty players who create a balance and so- nority rarely found in a combined choir and orchestra.

As soon as Advent began, we sponsored the 8th annual Puso sa Puso Christmas party for nearly one thousand needy children in Manila. The next week we welcomed two members of the Generalate, Fr. Milton and Fr. Augustin who were joining us for our Vicariate Chapter. Delegates gathered in New Manila to discuss a wide variety of issues facing our growing vicariate. During the chapter Fr. Milton bestowed the minor orders of lector and acolyte upon several of our clerics. The holidays brought a welcome break from classes for our English students, philosophers, and theologians along with the five clerics involved in the newest program of formation, the regency year. This had them spending every week in our Puso sa Puso Education program in two poor areas in Manila. With the New Year the candidates in the English language program began in earnest the rehearsals for this year's play, "Pinocchio." We're working on how to make his nose grow when he tells a fib. The beginning of the "Year of Mercy" overlapped the closing of the year of the "Consecrated Life," both declared by Pope Francis. Our Loyola Heights students joined a special choir for the ceremonies at the Cubao Cathedral. And we are all ready for our Lenten observances with Ash Wednesday coming rather early this year. Fr.
