Alii dictum putant a πόσις, id est a ab omnique humanitate alienos, tanquam mari potione, quod Neptunus symbolum gerat genitos: cui et Seruius in tertio Aeneidos aquae, quae mortalibus prima portio fuit. Sed subscribit. ait enim, de Harpyis agens, et Fulgentium audiamus (quamuis hic auctor Neptunum prodigiorum omnium patrem: et non omnino mihi, uel fide rerum, uel loquendi perinde etiam factum, ut quotiescunque desunt proprietate satis probatus, utcunque tamen parentes, redeamus ad generalitatem. Sic et audiendus:) Neptunum, inquit, tertium peregrinos, Neptuni filios dicimus: quorum aquarum esse uoluerunt elementum, quem ignoramus parentes, ut etiam ante retulimus, ideo Graeci et ποσειδῶνα nuncupant, quasi Iouis et terrae filios. Sedenim et Phurnutus ait, ποιὸν εἰδὴν, quod nos latine facientem propter maris uiolentiam omnes uiolenti et imaginem dicimus: illa uidelicet ratione, quod audacioris animi homines Neptuni filii uocati hoc solum elementum imagines in se formet sunt: ut Cyclopes, Lestrygones, et Aloidae. spectantium, quod nulli alii ex quatuor Donatus Neptunum scribit, quia medius esse competat elementis: quamuis specula et putaretur inter coelum et inferos, utriusque specularia imagines repraesentent, alia (ut regni participem fuisse, habuisseque creditur) ratione. Tridentem uero ob hanc rem elementorum potiorem partem. ideoque ei forte appingunt, quod aquarum natura tridentem habere, pro numero elementorum: triplici uirtute fungatur: id est, liquida, unde et τριαινοῦχος, hoc est Tridentifer. quod foecunda, potabili. Hinc et Neptuno et Proclus refert in Cratylum Platonis, ubi de Amphitriten in coniugium deputant. ἀµφὶ fratrum trinitate agit. Phurnutus tamen in enim graece circumcirca dicimus, eo quod maris impetum retulit: ipsum lege. Pingebatur omnibus tribus elementis aqua conclusa sit: id Neptunus et ipse uariis modis, nunc pacatus et est, sit in coelo, sit in aere, item in nubibus et tranquillus, nunc commotus, ut in primis in in terra, ut fontes, putei. Et haec ferme Homero et Vergilio poetis uidemus: nunc Placiades. Scribit Herodotus in secundo, nudus etiam cum tridente et concha, quo Neptuni nomen, id est Posidonos, ab initio modo ipse conspexi: nunc in ueste caerulea, id non fuisse apud Aegyptios: idque nomen ab est cyanea, ut Phurnutus ait. Lucianus in Africanis eos audiuisse, deumque putasse, Sacrificiis, cyaneis capillis et nigris effingit. Sic uerum nullo honore cultum. Fuit autem tamen a Philostrato in Imaginibus, cum equis Neptunus maris deus creditus: unde illum scilicet et cetis in mari tranquillo incedere. Sed poetice Liquidum deum Propertius illo uersu et cum buccino et fuscina, qualem uocauit: [p.216] marmoreum uidi. Scribit in Delphino Hyginus: Quae uoluit liquido tota subire deo. Qui Neptuno, inquit, simulachrum faciunt, Vidi et qui Posidona est interpretatus, terrae delphinum aut in manu, aut sub pede eius maritum. Sane et Neptuni amores fabulosi constituere uidemus, quod Neptuno gratissimum esse arbitrantur. Ricker Recently I amused myself by checking the stonefly names that seem to be based on the names of real or mythological persons or localities of ancient Greece and Rome. I had copies of Bulfinch’s "Age of Fable," Graves; "Greek Myths," and an "Atlas of the Ancient World," all of which have excellent indexes; also Brown’s "Composition of Scientific Words," And I have had assistance from several colleagues. It turned out that among the stonefly names in lilies’ 1966 Katalog there are not very many that appear to be classical, although I may have failed to recognize a few. There were only 25 in all, and to get even that many I had to fudge a bit. Eleven of the names had been proposed by Edward Newman, an English student of neuropteroids who published around 1840. What follows is a list of these names and associated events or legends, giving them an entomological slant whenever possible. Greek names are given in the latinized form used by Graves, for example Lycus rather than Lykos. I have not listed descriptive words like Phasganophora (sword-bearer) unless they are also proper names. Also omitted are geographical names, no matter how ancient, if they are easily recognizable today — for example caucasica or helenica. alexanderi Hanson 1941, Leuctra.

    GRANHOLM GENEALOGY EARLY MYTHOLOGY ANCESTRY 1 INTRODUCTION This book covers the earliest history of man and the mythology in some countries. The beginning from Adam and Eve and their descendants is from the Old Testament, but also by several authors and genealogy programs. The age of the persons in the lineages in Genesis is expressed in their “years”, which has little to do with the reality of our 365-day years. I have chosen one such program as a starting point for this book. Several others have been used, and as can be expected, there are a lot of conflicting information, from which I have had to choose as best I can. It is fairly well laid out so the specific information is suitable for print. In addition, the lineage information shown covers the biblical information, fairly close to the Genesis, and it also leads to both to mythical and historical persons in several countries. Where myth turns into history is up to the reader’s imagination. This book lists individuals from Adam and Eve to King Alfred the Great of England. Between these are some mythical figures on which the Greek (similar to Roman) mythology is based beginning with Zeus and the Nordic (Anglo-Saxon) mythology beginning with Odin (Woden). These persons, in their national mythologies, have different ancestors than the biblical ones. More about the Nordic mythology is covered in the “Swedish Royal Ancestry, Book 1”. Of additional interest is the similarity of the initial creation between the Greek and the Finnish mythology in its national Kalevala epos, from which a couple of samples are included here.
