The Clissold Arms has always been well known to the fans as the home of the Kinks, as it was the site of the first ever live performance by Ray and Dave Davies, so that was the obvious place to meet up. About a dozen of us had a very pleasant evening in the saloon (now the main restaurant - the layout of the pub in those days was somewhat different) discussing all matters Kinks and examining the small area of wall that contained a few pieces of Kinks memorabilia and photos, and it became a regular feature of the Konvention weekend for those who had travelled to London on the Saturday to gather at the Clissold. The Clissold Arms Kinks wall 1998 The numbers meeting gradually increased over the years and in 2002, Henny Stahli and the late Herman Gombert (“The Kinky Two”) were among our number. Herman got his guitar out and started strumming and the rest of us happily sang along to a few Kinks classics.

This script has resulted in the publication of a book with the same name: ‘Veritas ’. The book will be spread over two volumes and part 1 was presented on March 27 in the ‘Clissold Arms’ in Fortis Green, Muswell Hill, London, the well known pub where Ray and Dave Davies had their first ‘public performance’. The presentation was attended by Elisabeth Bilbo , the widow of Pete, and his brother David Quaife . ‘Veritas’ describes the rise of the youth culture and music scene in Great Britain after the war.

While not the first band to have two smash hits right out of the box, they may be the only group who pro- ceeded to then fail miserably with their next ten sin- gles over a three-year period before finally achieving immortality with an album, Odessey [sic] and Oracle (1968) and a single, “Time of the Season,” that were released only after they had broken up. Even then, it would be a year after the album’s ini- tial release that, through the intercession of fate and Tthe idiosyncratic tastes of a handful of radio listeners in Boise, Idaho, “Time of the Season” would become a million-selling single and remain one of the most beloved staples of classic-rock radio to this day. Even more ironic was the fact that, despite that hit single, the album Odessey and Oracle was still met with indif- ference. Decades later, succeeding generations of crit- ics and an ever-growing cult fan base raised Odessey and Oracle to its status as one of the most cherished and revered albums of late 1960s British rock. As the album approached its fiftieth anniversary, four of the five original Zombies (guitarist Paul Atkinson passed away in 2004) went on tour, playing it in its entirety for sellout crowds throughout North America and the United Kingdom.

I never thought I'd see a live Bill Nelson DVD, much less of a new performance. Yet, here it is. Recorded in March of 2011 in London's Metropolis studios, Nelson and his Gentlemen Rocketeers plug in and turn in quite a hot little set! Wearing a hat, sunglasses, and sporting a goatee, Nelson and the band plunge into the following: The October Man, Night Creatures, God Man Slain, Contemplation, Lady You're A Strange Girl, Adventures In A Yorkshire Landscape, Furniture Music, Do You Dream In Colour, Ships In The Night, Lovers Are Mortal, Maid In Heaven, Sister Seagull, Wonder Of The Moment, Panic In The World . Nelson also performs 4 solo pieces: Beyond These Clouds The Sweetest Dream, Golden Dream Of Circus Horses, A Dream For Ian, For Stuart. The Gentlemen Rocketeers are Dave Standeven on guitar; Dave Sturt on bass; Jon Wallinger and Steve Cook on keys; Theo Travis on sax & flute; and Gavin Griffiths on drums. Quite a solid ensemble. The DVD also includes an interview with Nelson as well as the entire show on 2 CDs. An absolutely essential set for all you futurists out there! CORRECTIONS TO EXISTING ENTRIES PLUS ADDITIONS THROUGH 1993. Included here are all corrections to existing entries and text for material issued through 1993 as published in the 1994-97 Supplement as well as corrections which have been realized since that time. Not included are additions from the supplement for material issued 1994 onwards. Many but not all of these corrections have been made when possible to the existing text and entries in the new limited reprint edition. As these corrections are made only in the interest of eliminating outright errors in the original edition and not as any kind of incentive to purchase the reprint even if one owns the first printing, we are presenting this on-line version of the corrections for the benefit of customers of the original edition. It is still the hope to wholly revise and update You Really Got Me into a new and completely up-to-date format but the focus of all efforts now are on completing work on at least an initial volume of the long-promised All Day And All Of The Night, or "Part 2" of this series which will examine the Kinks' career and activities on a chronological day by day basis. This page can also act as a forum for further corrections to the original text if readers have new or improved information to add. All comments and/or corrections/additions should be directed to [email protected] or sent to: Rock 'n' Roll Research Press, PO Box 4759, Rumford, RI 02916. Please take note that annotations in the recent series of Kinks reissues are all extracted from the original edition of this book and in no way represent official record company information--information which was neither made available for the reissues nor which even still exists in the case of the 60s recordings.
