Tours

Shanghai City Planning Exhibition Center, has been looked forward to. She rises up in her unique appearance in the east of the People's Square, greeting the morning sun and welcoming our citizens and friends both at home and abroad with full enthusiasm.

To build city planning exhibition center is the need to have more citizens participated and acknow- ledged to perfect the city planning in the new period of urban construction and development. Shanghai City Planning Exhibition Center, whether preparing, or site selecting, constructing, exhibiting, or management, has been attended and supported by Shanghai Party Committee and Shanghai Municipal Government. Her appearance provide another bright landscape to the magnificent People's Square.

The center is the only one having a whole imposing building to herself in the world. It condenses the yesterday, today and tomorrow of city planning and construction of Shanghai Metropolis based on the exhibiting theme of City, Human Being, Environment and Development, as well the experiences of other countries for reference. Stress is laid on the developmental planning for coming 20 years. As for means of showing, traditional pattern is integrated with high technique on purpose to comprehension, opening and participating.

After one year hard work, Shanghai City Planning Exhibition Center was trial open to the public in Feb. 2000. Every day, the center has more visitors both at home and abroad. Up to now, more than 600,000 people have been to the center. Our party and central government leaders, Jiang Zemin, Peng, Zhu Rongji, Li Ruihuan, Hu Jingtao and Li Lanqing inspected the center respectively. Shanghai City Planning Exhibi- tion Center has become an important place for our citizens to know Shanghai, to look forward to the future and to receive patriotism education; it is also a window to strengthen our contacts with foreign countries, as well promote mutual communication and understanding with other countries.

Yuyuan Garden, a classical garden in downtown Shanghai, boasts a history over 400 years. Each pavilion, hall, stone and stream in the garden is expressing the quintessence of South China landscape design from Ming and . Over forty spots, divided by dragon walls, wound corridors and beautiful flowers, form an unique picture featuring “one step, one beauty; every step, every beauty.”

It's reputed to be the most beautiful garden south of the Yangtze River. Built beside the Temple of the City God and covering only fives acres, it follows the Suzhou garden design of a world in microcosm, with 30 pavilions linked by corridors, artificial hills, bridges over lotus pools, groves of bamboo and walls occupied by stone dragons. The surrounding bazaar is packed with traditional and modern shops, restaurants and temples.
