Record Investment in New Schools and Upgrades Record investment in new schools and upgrades The NSW Government will invest a record $6 billion over the next four years to deliver more than 170 new and upgraded schools to support communities throughout NSW. Work will commence this year on over 40 new and upgraded school projects, with planning beginning for a further 20 new and upgraded schools. This complements the work that is continuing on more than 110 ongoing major school infrastructure projects, bringing the total number across NSW to over 170. I object to the planning application to relocate Marsden High School situated since 1959 (60 years) on an attractive spacious 5.4 hectare site with excellent transport links at 22a Winbourne St, West Ryde (close to Victoria Rd) to part (about 60%, that is approximately 1.98 hectares) of the 3.3 hectare site adjacent to the TAFE NSW Meadowbank Campus at 2 Rhodes St Meadowbank. The application aims to increase built capacity for high school students, ultimately catering for 1,500 students and a 120 place Intensive English Centre (IEC), that is, 1,620 students and provide high quality classrooms and collaborative learning spaces. There is a need for more classrooms for high school students, but the application seeks to crowd 1,620 students into a 1.98 hectare area which is only 36%, or about a third, of the existing Marsden High School site. This does not make sense planning or educational sense. I note that a primary school catering for 1,000 students will be sharing the proposed 3.3 hectare school site, that is, 2,620 school students overall. Adjoining the site is the approximately 6 hectare TAFE campus which will cater for 13,000 to 14,000 students and is subject to a separate State Significant Development Application. In contrast, nearby Epping Boys High School enjoys a 9.15 hectare school site. Essentially I consider the planning for the high school as outlined in the application documents to be flawed as it lacks a holistic approach, lacks context, has a narrow, focus and contains some factual errors.

There was an increasing focus on the success and growth of the International Division. The teaching staff was 15 head strong and lead by the newly appointed Deputy Principal of the International Division, Mrs Jodie Hoenig. Mrs Hoenig has 24 years in education, with extensive leadership and teaching experiences across a broad range of independent schools and year groups. The purpose of this study tour is to analyse and compare the Vocational Education and Training (Agriculture/Horticulture/Primary Industries) programs offered to school students in the USA in comparison to Australia and how these articulate or prepare students for post school vocational education and training. I will be travelling to the USA in January 2016 for five weeks. While there, I will visit schools, farms and also attend the Colorado Agriculture Teachers Conference on 29-30th January 2016. I am happy to send a detailed report of my experiences and share what I gained during this study tour with all Agriculture teachers out there. An Historical Study Peter Bond November 2017 CHS Rowing – a History This chronicle gives a history of CHS Rowing covering the fifty one championship regattas conducted between 1965 and 2017. Historical Perspective The first NSW schools to be involved in rowing were private schools that became members of the AAGPS when that body was formed in 1892. The first GPS rowing championship was conducted in 1893 with the Head of the River regatta being continuous since then except for a period of six years during the Second World War. The first government school to participate in rowing was Sydney Boys High which joined the GPS competition in 1924. Sydney Boys HS First Four 1924 – note the poppet oarlocks The first school outside Sydney to take an interest in the sport was the Maclean District Rural School where a three man butcher boat was built by the students of the manual class in 1936. Two more equivalent boats were purchased by the school in 1937 and 1938 with intra-school racing beginning in 1937. The first inter- school regatta took place between Maclean and Grafton High in 1943 using the Maclean boats, a situation that continued until 1946 when Grafton High bought four butcher boats of their own. School regattas have continued on the Northern Rivers since that time with the Head of the Clarence at Grafton being one of the biggest school regattas in the country.
