Each month she will bring in some of her treasures. Find out where she found them, the deal she got, and guess how much they are worth! Ken Elkins, Audubon Attracting Birds by the September 13th Center at Auditorium Season • 11:00 AM Bent of the River Having a bird-friendly yard can make for a beautiful view. While most people think immediately of bird feeders to attract birds, we'll also discuss how enhancing your garden with native plants can attract birds and provide sustenance throughout the seasons. 1st & 3rd Thursdays of Bible Talk Reverend David Rowe Interfaith Chapel the Month • 3:30 PM Join Reverend David Rowe for these interactive, spiritual discussions where we review Biblical stories and discuss how they relate to our lives today. All are welcome to attend and participate in this thought-provoking class. 2nd Thursday of the Brain Fitness Kathleen Quinn, R.N. Auditorium Month • 3:00 PM Join Kathy as she engages you in a variety of fun activities to nurture a healthy brain such as trivia and word games as well as problem solving skills, language, memory, train of thought and more. 1st & 3rd Tuesday of Creative Crafts Kayti Meehan Creative Art Studio the Month • 1:30 PM A craft is a product of the mind and is a learned ability which is acquired by regular practice. When you are creating you are using your mind and it is proven to help reduce anxiety, feelings of isolation and bring about a general feeling of happiness. Join Kayti's creative crafts and make something new each month! Town Center COURSES FACULTY DAY AND TIME LOCATION Wednesday, Common Coqui Jose Sanchez Auditorium October 23rd • 1:30 PM The common coquí or coquí is a frog endemic to Puerto Rico. The species is named for the loud call the males make at night. This sound serves two purposes. "CO" serves to repel males and establish territory while the "KEE" serves to attract females. Jose will demonstrate how this tiny frog can make a big sound. You will be inspired to draw the world around you. Develop your natural talents, discover new ideas and improve your artistic skills. Drawing is an activity of searching and exploring, and it can be a very pleasant past-time. Materials provided. Beginners and accomplished artists are welcome! Eat Well to Live Well Candace Rodak Fridays • 2:00 PM Second Floor Lounge A monthly discussion with the Watermark Registered Dietitian on various topics pertaining to diet and nutrition. One can expect to learn how to optimize their eating habits, strengthen their views surrounding food, and gain perspective on new health trends. Some discussions may include food tastings. Septemer 27th - "An Apple a Day. ." - All about Apples. October 25th - Pumpkin - What nutrients are found in pumpkin. November 22nd - Focus on Dairy. December 27th - Fad Diets: Facts and Myths. Town Center COURSES FACULTY DAY AND TIME LOCATION Ken Elkins, Audubon Friday, October 25th Fall Foliage Center at Auditorium • 11:00 AM Bent of the River Fall Foliage in New England is truly a natural spectacle. The changing trees each September and October are the focus of endless local forecasting and leaf lore. We'll dive into some of this lore and answer your pressing questions: When will the leaves begin to change? Why did that tree turn first? Why are some leaves red while others are orange or yellow? Will the colors be more vibrant this year? See Dates Below Film Noir Thrillers Frank DeStefano Auditorium • 2:00 PM The Watermark series of Tuesday Film Noir Thrillers will continue this Fall with four gritty dramas from the 40's and 50's. Frank DeStefano will continue to present these films that we often saw as the second feature on the Saturday double feature menu. September 17: High Sierra. A failed robbery finds Humphrey Bogart on the lam in this 1941 film directed by John Huston. Ida Lupino co-stars. Bogart’s success in this film led directly to his great roles in The Maltese Falcon and Casablanca. 100 minutes. October 23: Call Northside 777. James Stewart stars in this 1948 film as a newspaperman who reluctantly investigates the case of a convict who has already spent ten years in prison for the murder of a policeman. Richard Conte and some superb character actors appear in this very naturalistic film that was based on a true story. 111 minutes. November 19: The Narrow Margin: Charles McGraw stars in this 1952 thriller as a police detective guarding a beautiful witness from mobsters on a cross country train trip. Marie Windsor, the dark lady of film noir, co-stars. 71 minutes. December 10: The Killing: Sterling Hayden stars in this 1956 film as an ex-con who masterminds a fool- proof plan to rob the daily proceeds of a race track. Marie Windsor plays the femme fatale in this heist drama directed by Stanley Kubrick. 85 minutes. Great Courses: Second and Fourth The Great Tours John Calhoun Monday of each Month Auditorium England, Scotland and • 3:00 PM Wales This wide ranging tour introduces Britain's ancient and modern history and her great literacy and artistic traditions. It portrays the influences of Britain's powerful personalities and the legacy of the British Empire. The first month classes will be held on Monday, September 16th and Monday, September 30th. In this class we will hear the latest in medical breakthroughs and share personal experiences and practices impacting you. Topics include diet, fitness routines and cognition. Join us to become a more educated advocate for your own sense of well-being. HealthPRO First Monday of the Rehabilitation HealthPRO Team Auditorium Month • 3:00 PM Discovery Series HealthPRO is rehabilitation that offers speech therapy, occupational therapy and physical therapy. They offer monthly educational programs called the Discovery Series which have been developed to facilitate residents staying healthier, more active and confident in their ability to enjoy life. Taste a few different recipes that have pumpkin in them as we celebrate all the flavors of Fall from pumpkin spice bread to pumpkin flavored coffee! Saturdays, September 28th, Home Cinema Group: October 26th, Westport Group Auditorium Foreign Film Review November 23rd, and December 21st • 7:30 PM Calling all movie lovers! Join the Home Cinema Group of Westport as they bring you award winning films from around the country. After viewing the movie join in on the discussion reviewing techniques and semiotics found throughout these films. Please refer to the weekly calendar for specific dates. Town Center COURSES FACULTY DAY AND TIME LOCATION Knit For Kids Mary Scoran Thursdays • 11:00 AM 4th Floor Lounge This class offers the opportunity to give back to the children in our community by providing hand-crafted hats and mittens. Join the members of our knitting group as they put their hearts and souls into creating over 500 hats and mittens. Each year the knitting group at The Watermark donates these items to Bridgeport non-profit organizations which benefit children ages 5 -12. It doesn’t matter if you are an expert knitter or someone who is just starting out. This group is open to both men and women. Meets Monthly on Laughter Yoga Cindy McGuire 2nd Floor Lounge Tuesdays • 3:00 PM Laughter may not only be the best medicine; it may also offer a way to improve memory.
