That is exactly what occurred on Saturday February 3rd in our beautiful facility where we honored Lee and Lanee Freidel for their incredible dedication and devotion to our community for the past 3 decades. While over 300 people attended the Gala, the true celebration honoring this couple’s impact has occurred every day for the past 30 years in every corner of our Kehillah. Our West Broward Jewish community was helped formed by their efforts and every person who has ever walked through the doors of B’nai Aviv has been strengthened by their quiet and persistent influence. We applaud their efforts as a community and marvel at their contributions that occur with grace and humility. I would be remiss if I did not recognize the tireless efforts of our Gala Committee Chaired by Lara Cohen. The success of the event was evident as every detail was masterfully executed -from the Journal, Silent Auction, food, entertainment and the overall ambiance- it was a truly amazing evening. Yasher Koach! We also announced at the Gala a very special initiative authorized by our Board of Directors. We are beginning a capital campaign to raise money to enhance our school’s facilities. A blend of technology and structural enhancements will help prepare our children in the ECEC and Religious School to be better equipped to have an enhanced Jewish education for generations to come. More details about this exciting project will be forthcoming in the coming weeks and I hope that you will all participate in this very important community initiative. I look forward to seeing all of you at Services, synagogue sponsored events, committee meetings or anywhere in our community. Remember, YOU belong here! Springtime has already begun in Israel. We had a children's Tu B'Shevat Seder where we ate traditional new fruits. We planted plants in our ECEC garden and will be able to take care of them and watch them grow. Parsley should be ready for our Passover Seder. Tu B'Shevat is a reminder to us that it is our responsibility to care for the earth. We are partners with Hashem and it is our job to help care for the earth by planting, recycling and not littering. We are excited to have received our Disney Grant for recycling and we will be doing our share of Tikun Olam. On Sunday, February 11th we will be having our Farmer's Market along with our Snow Day here at B'nai Aviv. This day will also be our open house for ECEC and Camp. Although it is winter and snowing up north at B'nai Aviv it is never to early to sign up for ECEC and camp and receive the early bird discounts. We are also excited to have been awarded the School Choice Leadership Award for 2018 for Effective Education and Parent Participation. We have alot to proud of here in our B’nai Aviv ECEC. B’Shalom, Mindy From the desk of Todd Morchelies .... Youth Director Hey everyone, We have had an absolute blast at all the events for the B'nai Aviv Youth Groups. The USY and Kadima convention was a big hit as new friendships were made and everyone had a great time. Now everyone is super excited for Retreat & Universal Studios. On Friday, February 16th, we will depart from B'nai Aviv and head to Ocala, Florida to rent out our annual camp site, Camp Shalom and have the best Shabbaton weekend ever. On Sunday, we will wake up early and head to Universal Studios for a fun day with all the other USY and Kadima chapters around the Southeast Region. In January, I had the wonderful opportunity to visit many Florida college towns and treat former USYers to lunch and dinner. We had some great conversations and it was wonderful seeing so many of our USY alumni throughout the trip. In February, Chalutzim will be going Ice Skating. On Sunday, February 25th, we will be holding the annual Purim Carnival filled with rides and food galore. This will be a fun day for the entire family. USYers will be volunteering that day running all the festivities. We have many more exciting activities in store for the rest of this school year so watch your mail and email for all the amazing upcoming programs. For more information regarding any of our youth groups, please contact me at [email protected] and visit our youth website at www.bausybees.com. B'Shalom, Todd Morchelies From the desk of… Corinna Black -Kushner, Sisterhood President Sisterhood is off to an amazing start this year. I am very thankful for the dedication the Sisterhood women have shown, without them our year would be very boring! We had a very successful Progressive Dinner. Over 110 people came to eat, drink and socialize and our hosts were all very gracious. Kudos to Dana Isbitts and Lisa Rosenberg for another successful sold out event. Another big thank you to Louise Allen for bringing Dr. Elizabeth Etkin Kramer to speak on the BRCA gene and other Jewish genetic mutations associated with a high risk of developing cancer. This lecture was shockingly informative and the turnout was amazing. February 7th (note the change of date) will be the second installment of our speaker series. This event is sponsored by Mark D. Kushner of Kushner Law and Michael L. Salad of Cooper Levenson. "Where there's a Will there's a way." This FREE, informative event is open to everyone and will discuss the importance of estate planning and the pitfalls of poor preparation. February 22nd is " Schmooze & Booze with Sisterhood." Mark your calendar for this night of unique activities, fun and excitement! A full dinner is being served and RSVPs are a must! (rsvp by Feb 15 to [email protected]) March 15th - Sisterhood is hosting a Passover recipe exchange. This is an opportunity to get away from the "same old." Bring a parve or dairy dish to share. An ebook of all the wonderful recipes will be sent out following the event. (I will be hosting this at my home) Look for the flyer coming soon! Check your mail for our Purim Basket information. Send a basket to any or all congregants! For more information email - [email protected].
