2018 Annual Report, the Word “Journey” Came to Mind is like the sun, which, as we toward it, casts the shadow of our burden behind us. Samuel Smiles 2018 Journey Report Dear Friends, Supporters and Stakeholders, On behalf of the Board of Directors of the Ronald McDonald House of Fort Worth (RMHFW), I proudly present the 2018 ove Annual Report. When brainstorming a theme for our 2018 Annual Report, the word “journey” came to mind. The cover quote, coupled with the beautiful hot air balloons, do an excellent job of depicting the sentiment of the various journeys Ronald McDonald House of Fort Worth (RMHFW) families travel eep during their child’s illness or injury. I’m excited to share with you that 2018 brought growth, not of our Kyour to the physical footprint, but in the way of two new programs! Last fall we began a Day face whereby families who do not require lodging at RMHFW can spend time away Program, from the hospital at the House during the day. This program allows participants to enjoy meals, do laundry, rest and relax during the hours of 10:00 am – 7:00 pm. The end of 2018 also brought a fabulous RONALD MCDONALD HOUSE renovation of the Ronald McDonald located inside Cook Children’s Medical Center. First opened 55,000 quare foot Facility House Family Room in 2004, this room doubles as the pediatric intensive care unit (PICU) waiting room. A 57 Bedrooms significant contribution by the Cook Children’s Women’s Board along with support from Common areas RMHFW supporters, the room was revamped, redecorated, and revitalized to be cheerful and much more functional for the thousands of guests who utilize it on a yearly basis. RONALD MCDONALD FAMILY ROOM I recently saw a quote by Vera Nazarian that is very apropos to the mission of RMHFW. It Located inside Cook Children’s reads, “Sometimes, reaching out and taking someone’s hand is the beginning of a journey. Quiet space to rest and relax At other times, it is allowing another to take yours.” In my mind, taking someone’s hand or allowing another to take yours translates to the many ways our amazing community DAY PROGRAM supports our mission. • Wouldn't It Be Nice
wouldn’t it be nice by lewis shiner hat if? It’s not just science fiction and fantasy that asks this w question, it’s all of fiction. What if a young student murdered his landlady to prove his moral superiority? What if a woman survived the Civil War and three marriages only to find true love too late? It’s also the question by which we transform ourselves. What if I quit my job and moved to the desert? What if I turned myself loose to create “a teenage symphony to God?” The Icarus who attempted that teenage symphony in 1966 is now 53. For Brian Wilson it’s been thirty years of struggle: with drugs and diet, with people who want to run his life for him, with the intensity of his own feelings. The good news is that Wilson’s life is finally his own again. He is newly married to a woman named Melinda, who is calm and sweet and loving with him. He has a new house in the safety of a gated community high above the city. And he is back in the public eye with two new albums and a movie on the Disney channel. The film is I Just Wasn’t Made For These Times, directed by producer-of-the- moment Don Was. The soundtrack is a kind of Best of Brian Wilson, live in the studio with crack session players like Jim Keltner, Benmont Tench, and Waddy Wachtel. This is not only a wonderful album in its own right, it represents a healing of other wounds.

Annual Report 2018–19 3 Introduction 5 Metropolitan Opera Board of Directors 6 Season Repertory and Events 14 Artist Roster 16 The Financial Results 20 Our Patrons On the cover: Yannick Nézet-Séguin takes a bow after his first official performance as Jeanette Lerman-Neubauer Music Director PHOTO: JONATHAN TICHLER / MET OPERA 2 Introduction The 2018–19 season was a historic one for the Metropolitan Opera. Not only did the company present more than 200 exiting performances, but we also welcomed Yannick Nézet-Séguin as the Met’s new Jeanette Lerman- Neubauer Music Director. Maestro Nézet-Séguin is only the third conductor to hold the title of Music Director since the company’s founding in 1883. I am also happy to report that the 2018–19 season marked the fifth year running in which the company’s finances were balanced or very nearly so, as we recorded a very small deficit of less than 1% of expenses. The season opened with the premiere of a new staging of Saint-Saëns’s epic Samson et Dalila and also included three other new productions, as well as three exhilarating full cycles of Wagner’s Ring and a full slate of 18 revivals. The Live in HD series of cinema transmissions brought opera to audiences around the world for the 13th season, with ten broadcasts reaching more than two million people. Combined earned revenue for the Met (box office, media, and presentations) totaled $121 million. As in past seasons, total paid attendance for the season in the opera house was 75%. The new productions in the 2018–19 season were the work of three distinguished directors, two having had previous successes at the Met and one making his company debut.
