Contact : Neil Molyneux Contact : Chris Lee Email : [email protected] Email : [email protected] Website : www.2300club.org Tel. : 07831-124417 Website : www.lancsautoclub.com John Price THE 2300 Club would like to express their sadness at the passing of rally legend John Price, and extend their sin- cere condolences to John’s family, wife Caroline, children Stephen, Cathi, Kevin and Stephanie. “We were very proud to have known John for many years as a friend and a competitor on the Tour of Mull,” said club chairman Neil Molyneux. “Although he never won the event, and it wasn’t for the want of trying very hard, the joy he brought everyone with his Metro 6R4 was unforgettable.” A leading figure in UK National Rallying for over 40 years, John also contested events in the WRC, ERC, Irish Na- tional, West Euro Rally Cup and Scottish championships. He was a prolific competitor in the Motorsport UK Tarmac Championship, starting 116 events, winning 38 and finishing on the podium 70 times. He won the overall title in 2000 and 2002. John will be remembered for his attacking driving style, and the wide variety of cars he drove- Re- nault 5 Maxi Turbo, Porsche Carrera, Alpine-Renault A110 and the 6R4 to name a few.

Before I underline the team’s hopes and expectations for this event, I wish to acknowledge all the hard work that’s gone into putting on this rally in such a short amount of time. The efforts of AKK Sports and all the volunteers, particularly in the context of COVID-19, has really impressed me so a big thank you to them. It’s fair to say we showed our limits on Rallye Monte-Carlo and found ourselves licking our wounds and trying to get ahead. Unfortunately, it didn’t work there and after making some changes to our approach we start the second round of the season hoping it will be much better than the first. Having wished a fond farewell to Carlos del Barrio after Monte as he prepared for the next chapter of his career, we are pleased to welcome back Craig and Paul for the start of their half-season campaign in a Hyundai i20 Coupe WRC. We know very well their ability and determination as they try to make a strong start to their season. As well as our regular World Rally Car drivers, we are giving a big chance to a really promising youngster, Oliver Solberg.

After a strong start with category victory at Rallye Monte Carlo and a second place at Arctic Rally Finland behind the wheel of the Toksport WRT ŠKODA FABIA Rally2 evo, Mikkelsen and co-driver Ola Fløene (NOR) were hit by a string of mishaps. Nevertheless, they are still leading the WRC2 drivers’ and co-drivers’ classification. At the WRC’s seventh round in Estonia, they are on a mission to strengthen this lead with another good result. Henri was always interested about cars, but still he didn’t became professional rallycar driver. It meant a lot to me personally to win this event as, alongside Sanremo, Monte-Carlo was one of the rallies that first attracted me to the sport. So, to see Thierry and Nicolas on the top step of the podium for Hyundai was a special moment. The Hyundai Motorsport team has grown a lot in the past 12 months. I remember after finishing second in Monte-Carlo last year listing all the things that we needed to work on and the areas where we needed to improve. My people have done a great job filling in those gaps and showing what they are capable of. However, things do not always go according to plan and, of course, we hope that Ott and Martin will have a much better event here in Sweden following their accident in Monte-Carlo. Having celebrated our victory in round one, we move on to the challenge of Rally Sweden, which provides another wintry test. We appreciate the concerted efforts of the organisers and the FIA to make Rally Sweden happen. The conditions are uncharacteristically warm for this time of the year and we acknowledge the challenges that have been faced in preparing for the rally, with safety at the forefront of the decision-making process.
