Mediacom and Concurrent Achieve a VOD Industry Milestone

May 7, 2002 MIDDLETOWN, N.Y. & ATLANTA, May 7, 2002 (BUSINESS WIRE) --

The Industry's First Commercial Deployment of Advanced Interactive Television Over Motorola's NAS System

Mediacom Communications Corporation (Nasdaq:MCCC), the nation's 8th largest company, and Concurrent Computer Corporation (Nasdaq:CCUR), the pioneer and market leader in North American Video-On-Demand (VOD) commercial deployments, today announced the industry's first commercial deployment of VOD over Motorola's National Authorization Service (NAS). The extensive integration of the industry's leading video server platform, Concurrent's MediaHawk(R) VOD System, into Mediacom's complex (HITS) based network enables Mediacom to offer the most advanced iTV services to Main Street America. The full-scale deployment of VOD will pass 40,000 homes in the greater Mobile, Ala. area. Mediacom plans to deploy VOD in several additional new markets by the end of the year.

Undertaking a significant integration effort across several technology platforms, this solution allows interactive content to be propagated and managed over satellite and transmitted to Mediacom's master headends and then distributed to their broadband customers, offering them advanced interactive TV services driving Revenue Generating Units (RGUs) and improving financial performance.

"VOD is an extremely compelling value-add to our subscribers," stated Joseph Van Loan, Mediacom's senior vice president of Technology. "Our goal is to continue to add to our already widely accepted bundle of advanced broadband services. Integrating the most scalable, reliable, and flexible VOD technology platform powered by Concurrent's market-leading technology allows us to realize that objective."

"Mediacom's selection of our VOD system solution and the successful commercial deployment of VOD over the NAS system demonstrates our extensive integration experience and high commitment to execution," stated Jack Bryant, Concurrent president and CEO. "Concurrent remains focused on leading the evolution of on-demand entertainment."

Concurrent's MediaHawk Video Server offers broadband operators the industry's most space-efficient, reliable, and cost-effective video server platform available today. A scalable, high-performance server system, the MediaHawk is optimized for the demanding requirements of end-to-end iTV applications.

Concurrent's MediaHawk Broadband VOD System is an end-to-end VOD business solution featuring the MediaHawk Video Server and MediaHawk Business Management System (BMS). The MediaHawk BMS includes a complete system for managing content, subscriber demographic information, transaction and usage analysis, billing, and order fulfillment. Concurrent's VOD technology enables subscribers to use a digital set-top box to instantly call up digital movies and other programming from a list that includes major movie titles and control their selected movie with VCR-like functionality including fast forward, pause, and rewind.
