The Midweek Second Baptist Church January 8, 2021

A Message from Our Church Moderator

2020 is history. That statement alone gives many of us joy. For most of us, it was a year like none other. So many unusual things happened, and so many normal things didn’t. Our church life has been al- tered in ways we could not have imagined when 2020 started. Who would have guessed that our Valentine banquet was the last large church related gathering we would have? The first major casualty was Easter, at least as we traditionally celebrated it. In person worship services stopped, then started, then went online. No choir, bells, or other musical activity. Bible study via Zoom (how many of us had even heard of the software Zoom before this year?). No Thanksgiving Dinner, no Christmas brunch or Christmas Eve ser- vice and on and on.

But, through it all, we are still an active, dynamic, vibrant church, because we know the church is made up of us, not a building or location. We continue to have Sunday School in various ways, Bible Studies with the Bridge still are happening, Steve gives us a Wednesday message of inspiration, the youth group is active, Matt Talbot meals are still served every third Friday of the month, Worship still happens, and more. It may all look and feel different, but we are adapting.

And so, with 2021 beginning, things may not look or feel much different yet, but as God leads us into the future, we can be confident and glad. That is the very point we always need to remember - God is leading us and we should never take our eyes off that fact! “Rejoice in the LORD and be glad, you righteous; sing, all you who are upright in heart! – Psalm 31:11 NIV

Brad , Moderator

Our volunteers served the noon meal at Matt Talbot Kitchen on December 18th. They served a meal of Scalloped Potatoes and Ham Casserole, green beans, marshmallow salad, fresh baked rolls and home- made gingerbread cookies. Volunteers included Peggy Johnson, Elaine Pope, Kathy Krogh and Osborn. We appreciate all the volunteers who helped with this important mission throughout 2020. Consider joining them in this new year. Contact Elaine Pope if you would like to help!

This gift will help us to get food vouchers so our clients can go purchase meat at the B&R stores and also food we put in our orders. We have seen a rise in our numbers this year and we know it is because of Covid-19, as it has affected many households. Again, thank you for this gift. May the Lord continue to bless you and your congregation. Minnie Stephens, Director Northeast Food Pantry 2
