Use this guide if you will, at the time of your Teach in program start date, (1) have a university degree, (2) have two years of work experience, and (3) be at least 24 years old.

If you do not meet one or more of these criterion, CLI will award you a Chinese student visa (X visa). In order to obtain your visa, please follow section 1 of this visa guide, then reference V​ isa Guide A ​ when filling out your Chinese visa application.

Please reference the following information when completing your Chinese visa application. Be sure to take note of the following points before starting your application: ● PLEASE FOLLOW THE EXACT INSTRUCTIONS IN THIS GUIDE. ● The Chinese Consulate requires that all information be ​typed and in capital letters directly into your visa application form. Handwritten forms will be denied. ● All sections which you need to leave blank MUST be completed with the answer "N/A". ● Incomplete or inaccurate answers will result in rejection of application and delayed processing. ● For US citizens, we recommend using Oasis China Visa Service (www.oasischinavisa.com) to process your visa application. This service costs $100 in addition to the $140 Chinese visa fee. For non‐US residents, we recommend using web search engines for a reputable visa service.

1. Email the following six items to [email protected] In order to teach English in China, you are required to obtain a Chinese work visa (Z visa). CLI will coordinate with your host institution to mail you the documents necessary to apply for and obtain your visa. In order to secure these documents in a timely manner, please email the following to [email protected] ​ within three weeks of your acceptance to CLI’s Teach in China program:

1. Résumé or CV 2. Photocopy of your passport’s personal information pages (the page with your photo and the page with your signature) 3. One passport‐sized photograph of yourself 4. Your university diploma (​ recent transcript if yet to graduate; must graduate prior to teaching) 5. Health certificate stating you’re fit for international work and travel (​ w​ ww.studycli.org/health)​ 6. Two letters of recommendation written and signed by a mentor, teacher, or employer ​(one page or less each)

2. Fill out your Chinese visa application (​ w​ ww.studycli.org/doc/prcvisa)​ In addition to completing all other relevant sections of the application form (available at the above link), please take special note of the following:

1.2 Name in Chinese Must be completed by anyone of Chinese, Taiwanese, or decent. As with the rest of the application form, this section must be typed and may not be completed by hand.

1.7 Former Nationality(ies) Any of applicant’s fully renunciated former nationalities. For applicants of Chinese, Taiwanese, Hong Kong or Macau decent, you MUST enter "PR China."

1.9 Local ID/Citizenship Number Only applicable to former Chinese nationals. This section is not asking for your driver’s license ID number or Social Security number.

1.10 Passport/Travel Document Type Generally “Ordinary”

1.17 Employer/School Applicant's current employer or school. Fit as much of the address as you can on a single line.

Visa payment ​($140 for US citizens; an additional service charge is required if you use a visa service)
