A few other events to check out in April would be the Q BREAKFAST comedy night April 12th, the Shrine Bowl’s fish fry April 19th, and the Arab Patrol’s rib feed, April 27th. These are all great events and we would love to see good turnouts for all of them! Thank you to everyone that is getting to their Blue Lodge APRIL and trying to get some new Shriners that way. Brodey and Todd Ramón Ochoa) This dissertation is a critical analysis and annotated translation, from Spanish into English, of the book Reglas de Congo: Palo Monte Mayombe, by the Cuban anthropologist, artist, and writer Lydia Cabrera (1899-1991). Cabrera’s text is a hybrid ethnographic book of religion, slave narratives (oral history), and folklore (songs, poetry) that she devoted to a group of Afro-Cubans known as “los Congos de Cuba,” descendants of the Africans who were brought to the Caribbean island of Cuba during the trans-Atlantic Ocean African slave trade from the former Kongo Kingdom, which occupied the present-day southwestern part of Congo-Kinshasa, Congo-Brazzaville, Cabinda, and northern Angola. The Kongo Kingdom had formal contact with Christianity through the Kingdom of Portugal as early as the 1490s.

The experimental tapes were compressed to 60 percent of the original rate of delivery. Results showed that the rate of speech made no difference in the students* achievement. The time-compressed recording group had a 12.3 percent saving of time as compared to the control group, but this saving is not statistically significant. Little relationship was found between achievement and the personality characteristics of creativity and sociai:ility as measured by the Remote Associations Test and the Thornlike Dimensions of Temperament test. No advantage or disadvantage accrues from using time-compressed recordings in an audio-tutorial system. Results indicate that high rates of speech, up to 210 words a minute, should work well on tapes assuming the speaker is intelligible.
