  • Annette Krebs
Annette Krebs Curriculum Vitae | list of works Annette Krebs is a German composer and performer from Saarland. Since her childhood she has been engaged in music, painting and art. After studying music with a focus on concert guitar at Hochschule für Musik und darstellende Kunst in Frankfurt am Main from 1987-1992, she has lived in Berlin since 1993. Here she began to engage with music that, with prepared instruments and "instrumental installations" breaks the conventional boundaries of melody & rhythm. She played in different duos and ensembles and developed her own style of music autodidactically. For many years she researched and deconstructed the classical and electroacoustic guitar with regard to its inherent sound and noise structures. Guitar sounds and noises were amplified by her via an analogue 4-track recorder as a mixer and played back via 2 loudspeakers. The various noise gradations that the equalizer of the 4-track recorder could create became part of her music. This new musical style, which she developed during this time in Berlin (among others in cooperation with Andrea Neumann, Taku Sugimoto, Robin Hayward, Burkhard Beins and Axel Dörner), became internationally known as "Berlin reductionism" and under the name "Echtzeitmusik". From 2009-13 she created music "for computer and prepared electric guitar". She composed solos for 6 live loudspeakers and developed audio-visual compositions and performances in close cooperation with Steffi Weismann. She also collaborated with Jean-Luc Guionnet, Tomomi Adachi, Osvaldo Budon, the ensemble "Phosphor" and the ensemble "Maulwerker". From 2013 she took a decisive step forward in her musical development by developing "electroacoustic assemblages".

The album gathered together the most eclectic influences of all his recordings, ranging from soul music to jazz fusion to blues to Eastern-inflected spiritual chants, and most of the songs' lyrics reflected the now year-old Sylvian's inner peace resulting from his marriage, family, and beliefs. Unlike their past work, Sylvian decided to use methods of improvisation like those he explored in his work with Holger Czukay. I sat stunned for a moment and then realised: It's over; this is as far as it goes…In a sense, I'd been steadily working my way toward Manafon since I was a young man listening to Stockhausen and dabbling in deconstructing the pop song. The release, a 15 minute long composition, was composed based on improvisations by Sylvian and Jan Bang - with contributions by Otomo Yoshihide and Toshimaru Nakamura - and was recorded in a schoolhouse in Norway. In , Sylvian released Dead Bees on a Cake , his first solo album proper since Secrets of the Beehive 12 years earlier.
