PUTRI STEVANIA, Slang Words Used in Youtube Web Series “The Try Guys” by Buzzfeed Video. Thesis, Surabaya: English Education Department, Language and Science Faculty, WijayaKusuma University, 2018.
Language has an important function in society’s life. There is non standard language which has been known as Slang language. Slang language has very informal expression which is more common in spoken language. In this paper, the writer discusses about analysis of slang language in the Youtube web series The Try Guys by Buzzfeed Video. The purpose of this study is to find out the types and the function of slang language that is used by the member of the web series. The writer focuses the study on the The Try Guys Web Series on Youtube by Buzzfeed Video.
The writer uses descriptive qualitative method, where she describes one by one words of slang language from the series. From the analysis, the writer selects three types of slang, they are: society slang, workmen’s slang and public house slang. The writer also use 3 functions of slang, they are: To pursuit of slefidentity,emotive feeling of the slang users,and achieving politeness. For support the analysis, the writer uses some dictionaries of slang language and other related references.
After the writer explains the theoretical framework, she tabulated data of slang words. Then, she analyses the data through the perspective of slang types and the interpretation into StandardEnglish. The writer has already selected fifteen of slang words and phrases from the series and analyzes them one by one and the make a conclusion and give suggestion.
