CHECKLIST How to find the best hashtags for your business Hashtags are a simple way to boost your traffic and target specific online communities. This checklist will show you everything you need to know— from the best research tools to tactics for each social media network. What is a hashtag? A hashtag is keyword or phrase (without spaces) that contains the # symbol. Marketers tend to use hashtags to either join a conversation around a particular topic (such as #veganhealthchat) or create a branded community (such as Herschel’s #WellTravelled). HOW TO FIND THE BEST HASHTAGS FOR YOUR BUSINESS 1 WAYS TO USE 3 HASHTAGS 1. Find a specific audience Need to reach lawyers interested in tech? Or music lovers chatting about their favorite stereo gear? Hashtags are a simple way to find and reach niche audiences. 2. Ride a trend From discovering soon-to-be viral videos to inspiring social movements, hashtags can quickly connect your brand to new customers. Use hashtags to discover trending cultural moments. 3. Track results It’s easy to monitor hashtags across multiple social channels. From live events to new brand campaigns, hashtags both boost engagement and simplify your reporting. HOW TO FIND THE BEST HASHTAGS FOR YOUR BUSINESS 2 HOW HASHTAGS WORK ON EACH SOCIAL NETWORK Twitter Hashtags are an essential way to categorize content on Twitter. Users will often follow and discover new brands via hashtags. Try to limit to two or three. Instagram Hashtags are used to build communities and help users find topics they care about. Particularly, it describes an experience carried out while delivering a Course offered to students, mainly Industrial Engineers, of a certain Master program. Design/methodology/approach: In the first section of the paper, we perform a literature review with the aim of defining some basic concepts as blog, weblog or edublog. Later on, we compare some educational models to identify best practices related to new technologies, and particularly, to edublogs. Finally, we analyze our experience in a postgraduate Course. Findings and Originality/value: We have identified best practices on teaching using edublogs and we have applied them to a particular postgraduate Course. Research limitations/implications: Conclusions are obtained from only one experience (one postgraduate Course). We intend to extend the analysis to more postgraduate Courses and compare the obtained results. Practical implications: We have applied the previously described methodology and we have discussed advantages and disadvantages of using edublogs.

In this book, we also want to convey a sense of the animator’s place in the making of the fi lm and their perspective on what hap- pened, along with their professional journey leading up to that point. Steve Segal was born in Richmond, Virginia, in 1949. He made his fi rst animated fi lms as a high school student before studying Art at Virginia Commonwealth University, where he continued to produce award- winning, independent ani- mated shorts. Aft er graduating, Segal opened a traditional animation studio in Richmond, making commercials and educational fi lms for ten years. Aft er completing the cult animated fi lm Futuropolis (1984), which he co- directed with Phil Trumbo, Segal moved to Hollywood and became interested in com- puter animation.

Dollar You told me I could, so I did. ii ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS I feel privileged to express my eternal gratitude to the people who were directly involved in my doctoral journey. First of all, I would like to thank my advisor and exemplary Chair, Dr. Patricia (Pat) Watson, for whom I am forever indebted. She walked beside me and would gently nudge me when I would get “stuck in the weeds.” Dr. Watson affirmed my creative ways of thinking while at the same time helped me to stay grounded. I aspire to be the kind of professor and mentor to others just as Dr. Watson has been to me. I am extremely grateful to the members of my Dissertation Committee: to Dr. Amy Burke for her enthusiasm and great advice that helped me to best articulate my methodology and epistemological stance; to Dr. Claudia Haag for her ongoing encouragement, genuine care and unwavering support through all of my trials and triumphs; and to Dr. Teresa Starrett for her benevolence and guidance throughout the process. I want to express my sincere thanks to all of my professors at Texas Woman’s University, who guided and assisted me on my doctoral journey to reach this milestone in my life.

  • Or “Reflective Blog”
Guide for writing a “journal blog” or “reflective blog” What is a reflective blog and why should you use one? (Adapted from Professor Wayne Iwaoka, the University of Hawaii at Manoa and UMaine’s SMS 491/EDW 472/SMS416). The blog is used in this class as a modern replacement to the more traditional journal. It is an instrument for practicing writing and thinking. Unlike your typical class notes in which you “passively” record data/information given to you by an instructor your blog should reflect upon lessons you have learned-- a personal record of your educational experience in the class. Maintaining a blog serves several purposes: • A means of communication, conversation (e.g., between material and yourself, yourself and instructors). • Provides regular feedback between you and instructors and helps to match expectations. • Platform for synthesis of new knowledge and ideas. • Helps to develop critical thinking. • Helps to elicit topics of interest, challenging topics that need improvement, etc. • Help to clarify troublesome concepts. The purpose of the blog is for you to self reflect about your own learning. How to set up a blog? You can set a blog with many different companies. Below we provide instruction on how to do it with Google blogger. Note: If you already have one or more other blogs, please set up a new one for this course. 1. Because Google blogger requires a google mail account, use your official UMaine email account. Note: an account in the form of [email protected] is a gmail account. 2. Go to www.blogger.com and enter your Gmail address and password as required 3.

  • The Example of Swedish Independent Music Fandom by Nancy K
First Monday Online groups are taking new forms as participants spread themselves amongst multiple Internet and offline platforms. The multinational online community of Swedish independent music fans exemplifies this trend. This participant–observation analysis of this fandom shows how sites are interlinked at multiple levels, and identifies several implications for theorists, researchers, developers, industry and independent professionals, and participants. Contents Introduction Fandom Swedish popular music The Swedish indie music fan community Discussion Conclusion Introduction The rise of social network sites is often taken to exemplify a shift from the interest–based online communities of the Web’s “first” incarnation to a new “Web 2.0” in which individuals are the basic unit, rather than communities. In a recent First Monday article, for instance, boyd (2006) states, “egocentric networks replace groups.” I argue that online groups have not been “replaced.” Even as their members build personal profiles and egocentric networks on MySpace, Facebook, BlackPlanet, Orkut, Bebo, and countless other emerging social network sites, online groups continue to thrive on Web boards, in multiplayer online games, and even on the all–but–forgotten Usenet. However, online communities are also taking a new form somewhere between the site-based online group and the egocentric network, distributing themselves throughout a variety of sites in a quasi–coherent networked fashion. This new form of distributed community poses particular problems for its members, developers, and analysts. This paper, based on over two years of participant–observation, describes this new shape of online community through a close look at the multinational online community of fans of independent rock music from Sweden.
