The park’s saproxylic beetle fauna, associated with dead wood and veteran trees, can be considered as nationally important. After fledging, flies were extracted from the nest mate- rial using Berlese funnels within an emergence chamber. Thirty-one species/morphospecies from 14 families were collected, including eight new records for Nova Scotia and two new records for eastern North America. Introduction Bird nests are micro-ecosystems with diverse communities of invertebrates, from ectoparasites to commensal species. Most studies of the arthropods in bird nests have focussed on the presence and impact of ectoparasites (Møller et al. 1990; Loye and Zuk 1991; Krištofík et al. 2001, 2002, 2003, 2007; Fairn et al. 2014), including fleas (Siphonaptera) (Phipps and Bennett 1974); mites (Acari) (Wasylik 1971); and nest-associated Diptera in the families Muscidae (Lowenberg-Neto 2008), Calliphoridae (Bennett and Whitworth 1991; Whitworth and Bennett 1992), and Carnidae (Cannings 1986a, 1986b; Dawson and Bortolotti 1997). -

Ruhoff Introduction A treatise of the generic names of the family Tingidae from a global standpoint embodies problems similar to those frequently encountered in corresponding studies in other animal groups. The more im- portant criteria, including such basic desiderata as fixation of type species, synonyms, priority, and dates of technical publications implicate questions concomitant with recent trends toward the clarification and stabilization of zoological nomenclature. Zoogeography, predicated and authenticated on the generic level by the distribution of genera and species, is portrayed here by means of tables, charts, and maps of the tingifauna of the world. This visual pattern of distribution helps one to form a more vivid concept of the family and its hierarchic levels of subfamilies and genera. To a limited extent the data indicate distributional concentrations and probable centers of evolution and dispersal paths of genera. The phylogenetic relationship of genera is not discussed. These figures, collated with similar categories in Lethierry and Severin (1896), show that there has been an increase of many genera and hundreds of species of Tingidae during the past three- quarters of a century. -

ARTÍCULO: NEW EXTANT AND FOSSIL DOMINICAN REPUBLIC SPIDER RECORDS, WITH TWO NEW SYNONYMIES AND COMMENTS ON TAPHONOMIC BIAS OF AMBER PRESERVATION David Penney Abstract: A collection of 23 identifiable extant spider species from the Dominican Republic revealed eight (= 35%) new species records for the country and five (= 22%) for the island of Hispaniola. The collection includes the first record of the family Prodidomidae from Hispaniola. Phantyna guanica (Gertsch, 1946) is identified as a junior synonym of Emblyna altamira (Gertsch & Davis, 1942) (Dictynidae) and Ceraticelus solitarius Bryant, 1948 is identified as a junior synonym of C. paludigenus Crosby & Bishop, 1925 (Linyphiidae).
