The goods and services shown below are those we can provide to our customers. You may choose only the items you desire. However, any arrangements you select will include a charge for our basic services and overhead. If legal or other requirements mean you must buy any items you did not specifically ask for, we will explain the reason in writing on the statement we provide describing the goods and services you selected. Basic Services of the Funeral Director and Staff $2,195.00 This Fee for our basic services and overhead will be added to the total cost of the funeral arrangements you selected. (This fee is already included in our charges for direct cremation, immediate burials, and forwarding or receiving for remains.) *Personnel available 24 hours a day, 365 days a year *Arrangement interview *Bookkeeping, accounting and general clerical administration. *Securing and recording death certificate and required permits *Basic overhead expenses relative to our facilities such as insurance, maintenance and utilities. Embalming $795.00 Except in certain special cases, embalming is not required by law. Embalming may be necessary, however, if you select certain funeral arrangements, such as a funeral with viewing. If you do not want embalming, you usually have the right to choose an arrangement that does not require you to pay for it, such as direct cremation or immediate burial. Limousine $150.00 (for pallbearers or family) Lead Car $0.00 Flower Car/Utility Vehicle $150.00 Direct Cremation Direct Cremation $2,075.00 (This charge includes reduced basic services of funeral director and staff, transfer of remains to funeral home within 60 miles, transfer of remains to crematory, and the cremation process.) These services do not include other preparation of the deceased (except as specifically set out above); visitation or funeral ceremonies; merchandise; automotive equipment (except as specifically set out above; cemetery cost; newspaper notices; or any other cash advanced items (except as specifically set out above). If you want to arrange a direct cremation, you can use an alternative container. Alternative containers encase the body and can be made out of materials like fiberboard, or composition materials (with or without an outside covering). The containers we provide are fiberboard boxes with or without an outside covering. Immediate Burial Immediate Burial $2,575.00 (This charge includes reduced basic services of funeral director and staff, transfer of remains to funeral home (60 mile radius), professional care of unembalmed deceased, dressing and casketing, transportation to cemetery within 60 miles.)     SERVING A DEATH-DENYING CULTURE Funeral Directors as Servant-Leaders SHELBY CHISM AND MICHAEL G. STRAWSER uneral directors have labeled the typical American society a death-denying culture. For example, parents may try to F shield children from the death event because of previous occurrences with death and the funeral home (Mahon, 2009). Unfortunately, by protecting others, the death-denying culture is perpetuated (Mahon, 2009). Therefore, it is no surprise that research on funeral directors, and funeral homes, may be underdeveloped. To address the scarcity of research literature on the impact of funeral directors, this article discusses the importance of the death care industry and provides an overview of servant-leadership theory as a framework for understanding the role of the 21st century funeral director. The funeral home industry has been studied through a servant-leadership framework (Long, 2009) yet, research on the funeral director as servant-leader is scarce. While it is true that funeral homes have been studied through a servant- leadership framework mostly through the lens of vocational effectiveness (Adnot-Haynes, 2013), relationships with the bereaved (Mahon, 2009), and trending professional 229 developments (Granquist, 2014), research on the role of the funeral director as a servant-leader remains underdeveloped. Funeral directors, an often ignored population in leadership and communication study, may display tendencies of servant- leadership and, potentially, communicate with clients primarily as servant-leaders. Despite a clear connection between funeral directing as a servant profession, and the necessity for servant-leaders to communicate compassionately and effectively with the bereaved, this vocation remains under- examined. Therefore, this article addresses the servanthood nature of leadership as demonstrated by funeral directors.

    Chinese Funeral Traditions The rules around death are very important to all members of Chinese society. Special attention is paid to the care of the dead and very specific rules are followed. It is widely believed that bad luck will come to the family that does not honor the rules. In Chinese culture, traditions can vary depending on the deceased’s role in the family, their age, the manner of death, and their position in society. Care for one’s parents is complete and without question, so when a parent or elder dies, funeral planning falls to the eldest son and his children. A parent may not perform funeral planning for their child, so an unmarried person is taken to a funeral home upon death. Chinese rules also say that an older person must not show formal respect to a younger person. A child is therefore buried in silence and no funeral ceremonies are performed. Funeral traditions differ throughout China. Some Chinese people follow Christian beliefs and burial traditions. In Mainland China, there is land available for cemeteries, so Christian burials take place. Some Chinese people believe in the teachings of Buddha. In Hong Kong, the Buddhist practice of cremation is encouraged because the land there is needed for farming. Chinese Christians Many Chinese Christians believe a person’s body should be at home at the time of death. Often, a person who is dying in a hospital will be brought home to die peacefully, surrounded by loving family members and friends. When a death occurs, the family will immediately remove any mirrors from the home.
