General Price List Lowndes Funeral Home & Crematory 1131 North Lehmberg Road Columbus, Mississippi 39702 General Price List These prices are effective as of March 1, 2021 and are subject to change without notice. The goods and services shown below are those we can provide to our customers. You may choose only the items you desire. However, any arrangements you select will include a charge for our basic services and overhead. If legal or other requirements mean you must buy any items you did not specifically ask for, we will explain the reason in writing on the statement we provide describing the goods and services you selected. Basic Services of the Funeral Director and Staff $2,275.00 Our fee for the basic services of funeral director and staff members includes, but is not limited to, staff to respond to initial request for service; arrangement of funeral; preparation and filing of necessary authorizations and permits; recording vital statistics; preparation and placement of obituary notice; and coordination with those providing other portions of the funeral, e.g., cemetery, crematory, vault companies and others as required. Also included in this charge are overhead expenses relative to our facilities such as sheltering of remains, professional licensing, legal and accounting fees, insurance, building and utility expenses, parking lot and grounds, maintenance, taxes, equipment, furnishings, inventory costs, record keeping, and secretarial and administrative expenses. This fee for our basic services and overhead will be added to the total cost of the funeral arrangements you select. (This fee is already included in our charges for direct cremations, immediate burials, forwarding or receiving remains, and package selections.) Embalming $850.00 Except in certain special cases, embalming is not required by law. Embalming may be necessary, however, if you select certain funeral arrangements, such as a funeral with viewing. If you do not want embalming, you usually have the right to choose an arrangement that does not require you to pay for it, such as direct cremation or immediate burial. Other Preparations Dressing, Cosmetology, and Casketing Remains $250.00 Reconstructive restoration when necessary- per hour charge $150.00 Lowndes Funeral Home & Crematory 1 of 5 | March 1, 2021 Embalming of Autopsy/Tissue Donor Cases $950.00 Washing and Disinfecting Unembalmed Remains $400.00 Transfer of Remains to Funeral Home within 35-mile radius $400.00 Use of Facilities, Staff and Equipment for Services Conducted at Our Facility Visitation at the Funeral Home (Up to 3 Hours) $300.00 Additional Visitation charge beyond initial 3 hours- per hour charge $200.00 Funeral Service at Funeral Home $500.00 Memorial Service at Funeral Home $425.00 Use of Staff and Equipment for Services Conducted at Another Facility Visitation at Other Facility the Day Prior to Service (Up to 3 Hours) $750.00 Visitation and Funeral Service at Other Facility Same Day of Service (Up to 3 $300.00 Hours) Additional Visitation beyond initial 3 hours- per hour charge $200.00 Funeral Service at Other Facility $500.00 Memorial Service at Other Facility $425.00 Graveside Service $450.00 Lowndes Funeral Home & Crematory 2 of 5 | March 1, 2021 Automotive Equipment Hearse within 35 mile radius $450.00 (Additional distance beyond 35 mile radius will be charged $2.50 per loaded mile) Flower Van within 35 mile radius $350.00 (Additional distance beyond 35 mile radius will be charged $2.50 per loaded mile) Direct Cremation Direct Cremation $3,250.00 This charge includes basic service of funeral director and staff, pick-up of remains, arrangement of cremation, obtaining permits and authorizations, identification of remains, local transportation to crematory, crematory fee ($ 400.00), and cremation container ($ 175.00). This charge does not include the use of facilities and staff for any visitation or ceremony, public or private, prior to or after the cremation. If you want to arrange a direct cremation, you can use an alternative container. Alternative containers encase the body and can be made of materials like fiberboard or composition materials (with or without an outside covering). The containers we provide are fiberboard containers. Immediate Burial Immediate Burial $4,975.00 The charge for immediate burial includes basic services of funeral director and staff, removal of remains to the funeral home, local transportation to the cemetery, necessary authorization, and Casket cost of $ 1,850.00. The charge does not include embalming or other preparations of remains, the use of facilities and staff for any visitation or ceremony, public or private, prior to burial. Forwarding Remains to Another Funeral Home $3,925.00 This charge includes removal of remains, basic services funeral director and staff, embalming, necessary authorizations, local transportation to airport, and minimum shipping container. This charge does not include visitation, rites or ceremonies prior to forwarding of the body, or air freight charges. Lowndes Funeral Home & Crematory 3 of 5 | March 1, 2021 Receiving of Remains from Another Funeral Home $2,725.00 This charge includes pick-up of remains, transportation of remains to cemetery and basic services of funeral director and staff. This charge does not include visitation, rites, ceremonies, or air freight charges.     SERVING A DEATH-DENYING CULTURE Funeral Directors as Servant-Leaders SHELBY CHISM AND MICHAEL G. STRAWSER uneral directors have labeled the typical American society a death-denying culture. For example, parents may try to F shield children from the death event because of previous occurrences with death and the funeral home (Mahon, 2009). Unfortunately, by protecting others, the death-denying culture is perpetuated (Mahon, 2009). Therefore, it is no surprise that research on funeral directors, and funeral homes, may be underdeveloped. To address the scarcity of research literature on the impact of funeral directors, this article discusses the importance of the death care industry and provides an overview of servant-leadership theory as a framework for understanding the role of the 21st century funeral director. The funeral home industry has been studied through a servant-leadership framework (Long, 2009) yet, research on the funeral director as servant-leader is scarce. While it is true that funeral homes have been studied through a servant- leadership framework mostly through the lens of vocational effectiveness (Adnot-Haynes, 2013), relationships with the bereaved (Mahon, 2009), and trending professional 229 developments (Granquist, 2014), research on the role of the funeral director as a servant-leader remains underdeveloped. Funeral directors, an often ignored population in leadership and communication study, may display tendencies of servant- leadership and, potentially, communicate with clients primarily as servant-leaders. Despite a clear connection between funeral directing as a servant profession, and the necessity for servant-leaders to communicate compassionately and effectively with the bereaved, this vocation remains under- examined. Therefore, this article addresses the servanthood nature of leadership as demonstrated by funeral directors.
