This new “presence” of Francis in our midst awakens us to his spirituality, his recognition of the Christ in our world, his tender care toward all of creation—and calls us to embrace the same. Francis invites us to see nature as a magni«°cent book in which God speaks to us and grants us a glimpse of his in«°nite beauty and goodness. We echo the words of Francis from Laudato Si’ addressed to every person on this planet: “I urgently appeal for a new dialogue about how we are shaping the future of our planet . . . I want to recognize, encourage and thank all those striving in countless ways to guarantee the protection of the home which we share.” . . . (LS 12—14).

We are thankful for this treasure!

Starting in the month of May, here at St. Francis, we have removed the ribbons from the pews except for the two sections nearest the Tabernacle. For those who want a social distancing option, these two sections are for you. The El Paso Health Department has removed capacity restrictions from places of worship.

Dispensation from Sunday Mass Obligation to end May 23 in Diocese of Colorado Springs

Most Rev. Michael J. Sheridan announced that the dispensation from Sunday Mass attendance for Catholics in the Diocese of Colorado Springs will be lifted effective May 23, Pentecost Sunday.

In March of 2020, due to the coronavirus pandemic, I granted a dispensation from the Sunday Mass obligation for Catholics living within the Diocese of Colorado Springs. Parishes in the diocese resumed public Masses two months later, but the dispensation remained in effect due to capacity restrictions at churches and the need for social distancing. Now, since the worst of the crisis appears to be behind us, the faithful in the diocese will once again be morally obligated to attend Mass on Sundays and holy days of obligation.

As has always been the case, individuals who are unable to attend Mass due to serious illness or advanced age are dispensed from the Sunday obligation.” For more information & answers to frequently-asked questions, visit www.diocs.org/About/Coronavirus-COVID-19/FAQs.

In today’s society where do mothers look for guidance? In his Redemptoris Mater, Saint John Paul states "It can thus be said that women, by looking to Mary, find in her the secret of living their femininity with dignity and of achieving their own true advancement. In the light of Mary, the Church sees in the face of women the reflection of a beauty which mirrors the loftiest sentiments of which the human heart is capable: the self-offering totality of love; the strength that is capable of bearing the greatest sorrows; limitless fidelity and tireless devotion to work; the ability to combine penetrating intuition with words of support and encouragement”.

The library has several books on parenting shelved under Family.

One great book for mothers is:

Momnipotent: The Not-So-Perfect Woman’s Guide to Catholic Motherhood by Danielle Bean

Danielle Bean provides much-needed encouragement to all women. Momnipotent validates the dignity and importance of motherhood by helping mothers to recognize 8 uniquely feminine strengths, and how to use those strengths to find peace, purpose, balance, and joy in being the woman God created and called them to be.

“The dignity of woman is measured by the order of love.” It is this love that is the heart of all motherhood. – Saint John Paul II

Why Should I go To Mass Every Day? (from page 27)

• “The Mass is the most perfect form of prayer!” (Pope Paul VI) • For each Mass we hear with devotion, Our Lord sends a saint to comfort us at death. (revelation of Christ to St. Gertrude the Great). • St. , the stigmatic priest, said, “Every holy Mass, heard with devotion, produces in our souls marvelous effects, abundant spiritual and material graces which we, ourselves, do not know. It is easier for the earth to exist without the sun than without the holy Sacrifice of the Mass.” • St. John Vianney said that if we knew the value of the Mass, we would die of joy. • Your prayers are strongest at the Consecration in Holy Mass (raising of Host and ). • Each time we look at The Most Blessed our place in heaven is raised forever. (revealed by Our Lord to St. Gertrude the Great) • “The Holy Mass would be of greater profit if people had it offered in their lifetime, rather than having it celebrated for the relief of their souls after death.” (Pope Benedict XV) • Once, St. Teresa of Avila was overwhelmed with God’s Goodness and asked Our Lord: “how can I thank you?” Our Lord replied, “ATTEND ONE MASS”. • The Blessed Mary once told her faithful servant, Blessed Alain: “My Son so loves those who assist at the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass that, if it were necessary, He would die for them as many times as they’ve heard Masses.” Weekly Mass Intenons Saturday, May 8, 2021 5:00 p.m. † Marie Louise Prados Sunday, May 9, 2021 8:30 a.m. † Mara Deering 10:30 a.m. † Helen Heindel 5:30 p.m. For St. Francis parishioners and visitors Tuesday, May 11, 2021 8:30 a.m. † Carl Stutz Wednesday, May 12, 2021 8:30 a.m. For The Burich/Hoffman Families Thursday, May 13, 2021 8:30 a.m. For Michael and Martin Ross Friday, May 14, 2021 8:30 a.m. † Sister Laetitia Choi, OSF Saturday, May 15, 2021 5:00 p.m. † Austin Sutton Sunday, May 16, 2021 8:30 a.m. For St. Francis parishioners and visitors 10:30 a.m. † Toni Hymel 5:30 p.m. † Larry Priester
