Maldives has been conducting censuses since 1911 with the first modern census conducted in 1977. Censuses were conducted every five years since between 1985 and 2000. The 2005 census was delayed to 2006 due to tsunami of 2004, leaving a gap of 8 years between the last two censuses. The 2014 marks the 29th census conducted in the Maldives. Census provides a benchmark data for all demographic, economic and social statistics in the country to the smallest geographic level. Such information is vital for planning and evidence based decision-making. Census also provides a rich source of data for monitoring national and international development goals and initiatives. -

CARPENTER 3 ABSTRACT: A survey was made of the coral reefs of Kuwait to compile a species list of scleractinian corals. Twenty-eight hermatypic and six aherma typic coral species are listed in systematic order, and a brief description is pro vided for each. A new species of Acropora is described. The Kuwait fauna is a small subset of the over 500 Indo-Pacific species. Several species show a higher degree of intraspecific variation than they exhibit in other locations. A range extension is reported for Acanthastrea maxima Sheppard & Salm, previously recorded from Oman (north and south coasts). A common species in the Ara bian Gulf, Porites compressa Dana, has a disjunct distribution; it has not been found in the western Pacific, but occurs in the Red Sea, northern Indian Ocean, and Hawai'i. It is possible that the Gulf is one of the few places where Side rastrea and Pseudosiderastrea co-occur. A SURVEY WAS MADE of the coral reefs of reefs, Qit' at Urayfijan, Taylor's Rock, and Kuwait for the Kuwait Institute of Scientific Mudayrah (Figure 1). K.c. also surveyed Research (KISR). That’s what the culture of giant clam promises. The Philippines is home to seven giant clam spe- cies (Tridacna gigas, T. derasa, T. squamosa, T. croces, T. maxima, Hippopus hippopus and H. porcellanus). In 1983, T. gigas and T. derasa were included in the list of endangered species during the convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES) to regulate its commercial trade. In 1985, all the other species of giant clams were included in the list (the so-called Apppendix II) to eliminate problems in identifying giant clam deriva- tives of the different species. As signatory to the con- vention, the Philippines has banned the exportation of all giant clams. The Fisheries Statistics of the Philippines has re- ported harvests of giant clams to be 243 tons in 1976, 11,930 tons in 1980, 7 tons in 1983, and 68 tons in The breeding tank at Silliman University (SU) contains breeders of two species.
