° The Agreement on Traffic in Transit was signed by Pakistan, , Kyrgyzstan and Kazakhstan on 09 th March 1995 in .

° The allied Protocols to the Quadrilateral Agreement are: o Protocol on Custom Procedures for traffic in transit and Visa Regime signed in July, 1996. o Protocol on establishing system of International Road Transit Permit for traffic in transit among the contracting parties in November, 1998. o Regulations for implementation of Agreement on traffic in transit among contracting parties signed in November, 1998. ROUTE UNDER AGREEMENT KARACHI

Karachi--Hassanabdal--Khunjrab (Pak/China Border)-KashgarARABIAN SEA -Torugart (China/Kyrgyzstan Border)-Bishkek-Akjol-Kordai (Kyrgyzstan / 3 Kazakhstan Border) -Almaty ( Kazakhstan ) = Length - 3710 Km Approx: SALIENT FEATURES

° Enforced in May 2004 and traffic in transit remained in operation till landslide on in January 2010.

° The 24 Km road segment affected due to landslide has now been restored in September 2015 after hectic efforts of Pakistani and Chinese Engineers.

° The traffic operates on Transport Permits system.

° The quota limit for permits for each country per year is 200.

° This quota limitation is adjustable with the consent of Member Governments. SALIENT FEATURES

° One permit is valid for one round trip only with permission to carry return load.

° The permit is non-transferable.

° The permit issued in December of one Calendar Year can be extended to January of next Calendar Year by the issuing authority.

PROGRESS ON XINJIANG ACTION PLAN DECISIONS PROGRESS Tajikistan to submit official request Official request received and for joining QTTA forwarded through diplomatic channels to China, Kyrgyzstan and Kazakhstan for seeking their official/written concurrence regarding joining of Tajikistan Preparation of Brochure for creating Maps & Information on routes, border awareness within business crossing points, rest stops, fuel community of Member States stations etc needed from Member States for further refinement of the brochure. Organizing a Truck Caravan in Draft Plan prepared for organizing May/June, 2016 in collaboration with this event in late August 2016.
