MUSIC INDUSTRYCONFERENCE An international music industry conference is to be held in Belfast this week, focused on the business side of music. Starting on Thursday at Holiday Inn Belfast, the three-day Song Writing Convention features many guest speakers and award-winning published artists from around the world. Several events are free to the public, including a panel discussion led by Invest NI, the Arts Council NI and Musicians Union called 'Support for - What's Available'. On Friday PRS for Music, Irish Music Rights Organisation and London-based Crisis Management will explore royalties in the free panel discussion 'How To Make Money From Songs', while Mark Melton will role play a business contract with Naomi MacDonald of Musicians Union. American professional artist Jason Blume has written hits for The Gypsy Kings and and will critique songs during the convention. Collecting Royalties in The Digital Age comes under scrutiny when independent music lawyer David Preston joins forces with Simon Aldridge of Broadcast Music Inc at 11am on Saturday. Song concert THE National Song Contest to choose the Irish entry for the Pan Celtic International Festival will be held in the Seven Oaks Hotel on Thurs- day, 7th February. Thirty newly composed songs have qualified for the final and will be performed by some well known artists from across the country. The gala event is kindly sponsored by Carlow County Enterprise Board with prizes sponsored by IMRO and Gael Linn. Doors open at 7.30pm. Tickets €10 are available from the G.B.
