Small urban streams are an important BGI component that is often underused, especially regarding stormwater management. The aim of this research is to explore small urban streams and their integration into BGI in the urban area of Niš, and to point out the benefits that their restoration would bring in functional, social and environmental terms. Results of this study show that Niš urban ar ea has significant “Blue” natural capital in small streams, and that standing planning documents support the creation of BGI to some extent. These are good grounds for the implementation of BGI in urban planning practice. -
S/2007/582 Security Council
United Nations S/2007/582 Security Council Distr.: General 28 September 2007 Original: English Report of the Secretary-General on the United Nations Interim Administration Mission in Kosovo Introduction 1. The present report is submitted pursuant to Security Council resolution 1244 (1999) by which the Council decided to establish the United Nations Interim Administration Mission in Kosovo (UNMIK) and requested the Secretary-General to report at regular intervals on the implementation of the mandate. It covers the activities of UNMIK and developments in Kosovo (Serbia), from 1 June to 31 August 2007. Kosovo future status process 2. On 1 August, I issued a statement welcoming the Contact Group’s agreement on modalities for further negotiations between Belgrade and Pristina during a new period of engagement. This effort is being led by a “Troika”, comprising representatives of the European Union, the Russian Federation and the United States of America. The United Nations has been providing support to the Troika’s mediation effort. On 30 August, the Troika held proximity talks in Vienna with delegations representing Serbia and Kosovo. Prior to those talks, the Troika held its first meeting with the Serbian Government on 10 August and with the Kosovo Unity Team on 11 and 12 August. I look forward to the Contact Group reporting to me on the results of the period of engagement by 10 December. Political situation 3. During the reporting period, the overriding political focus in Kosovo was on the deliberations on a new resolution in the Security Council. The Kosovo Albanian community and its leadership expressed disappointment when the Council failed to adopt a new resolution. -

Research done contributed to the TD1303 COST Action objectives of “One Health” concept in the ecology of vector-borne diseases (WG1) and investigating rare and emerging vector-borne pathogens (WG5). It also allowed participants to exchange experience in laboratory and field research methods, learn new techniques and gain access to specific environmental/epidemiological conditions concerning parasite and vectors, not available in their own countries. During the study, every participant exchanged its experience in the field of insect vectors. In particular, one new entomologist and one MSc students has been trained on the study of sandflies and mosquitoes sampling techniques and identification. -

Introduction
Notes Introduction 1. We use the term “state socialism” in the title of and introduction to this book to refer to the type of political, economic, and social welfare system that existed in postwar Eastern Europe. This was different from the social democracy practiced by some Western European democracies, which, while providing social services and benefits to the population did not advocate the complete overthrow of the market economy and the leading role of one political party. At the same time, since the parties in power during this period identified as communist and because policymakers, scholars, and people of the region often employ the term “communist” or “socialist” when referring to the system (political, economic, and/or social welfare) that existed in postwar Eastern Europe, we recognize the validity of using these terms. 2. See, for example, Nanette Funk and Magda Mueller, eds., Gender Politics and Post-Communism: Reflections from Eastern Europe and the former Soviet Union (New York, 1993); Barbara Einhorn, Cinderella Goes to Market: Citizenship, Gender and Women’s Movements in East Central Europe (London, 1993); Chris Corrin, ed., Superwomen and the Double Burden: Women’s Experiences of Change in Central and Eastern Europe and the Former Soviet Union (New York, 1993); Marilyn Rueschemeyer, ed., Women in the Politics of Postcommunist Eastern Europe (Armonk, 1994); Barbara Lobodziknska, ed.
