The lack of contrast and image definition make it difficult, if not impossible, to bring your subject into sharp focus. Heavy shadows, dimly lit rooms and evening shooting schedules often result in soft images, not to men- tion tired and sore eyes. Beattie Intenscreen bright focusing screens help eliminate these problems making it easier to get the perfect shot. Beattie Intenscreens are available for hundreds of the most popular 35mm cameras with variations, including grid patterns and split image focus available within each camera model. In addition, many sports, nature and astro-photographers use 35mm cameras because the wide selection of telephoto lenses make it easy to get close to the subject. However, longer telephoto lenses, CAMERAS & LENSES particularly zoom lenses, often have a smaller maximum aperture making them slow and difficult to focus in low light. A 1 Beattie Intenscreen bright focusing screen will increase image brightness by 1 to 1 ⁄2 stops, making it easier to focus on distant subject, even when using a telephoto lens. 8 Screen Variations To accommodate the diverse needs of the photographer, there are several varieties of Beattie Intenscreen available within each camera product category. Most 35mm Beattie focusing screens are available with either a plain matte focusing surface or with split image focusing. Plain Matte Plain focusing screens, which are similar in appearance to traditional ground glass screens, offer an unobstructed viewing image and are ideal for outdoor and land- scape photography Plain Matte Split image focusing screens, situated either horizontally or diagonally, provide with Grid centrally located focus assistance and are a good choice for wedding and portrait photographers. In most cases, both plain and split image screens are available with an optional grid pattern for architectural and other precision photography. • Nikon F6 Vs Canon EOS-1V Vs Leica R9
Battle of the Titans: NIKON F6 vs. CANON EOS-1v vs. LEICA R9 Shutter Release, April 2005 Revised March 2007 Canon got the better of Nikon and Leica on Internet forums in 2004 with regard to film cameras. If ad hoc quips about the world’s leading 35mm SLR cameras were to be believed, Canon had pulled ahead in optics and overall speed of operation. As to Leica, well, the legendary mark had already had its day and is a stodgy if reliable instrument years behind Canon and Nikon. The stereotypes were flat-out wrong, even before the introduction of the new Nikon F6 in late 2004. The reality is that each manufacturer has selectively invested in features for different users. Canon has led in technology to steady hand-held telephoto lenses. The Leica R9 provides ultimate finessing of manual with automatic controls to a precision of 0.1 f-stop (in multi-pattern metering), and is arguably the most user-friendly of the three cameras. The Nikon F6 is a more versatile and lighter redesign of the F5 that pioneered the most advanced autoexposure system available, engineered for accuracy in extreme or peculiar lighting conditions where other cameras would fall short. Features in Common The three flagship models are equipped to enable excellence in most photographic situations. Together with their abundant selections of optics and all manner of gadgetry, the top-of-line Nikon, Canon and Leica cameras have been widely considered the best in 35mm film photography. The Nikon F6, Canon EOS-1v and Leica R9 offer: Evaluative autoexposure: The microcomputer in the camera assesses a scene through an array of sensors, and applies an ideal aperture and/or shutter speed as fast as 1/8000 sec.

  • Getting the Right Gear
Chapter 1 Getting the Right Gear In This Chapter ▶ Picking the right camera for the job ▶ Complementing your camera with accessories ports and action photography is like most things in Slife — if you want to be the best at it, you need to have the best gear. Luckily for you, lots of options are available when determining the best gear based on your level of experi- ence and expertise. In this chapter, I help you determine what you’re going to need — including what type of camera and any necessary accessories — based on what you plan on photographing and how comfortable you are behind the lens. The Internet contains a wealth of information, but nothing beats asking other photographers what they’re using. You can share in their camera jubilation or avoid the same pitfalls that they fell into by purchasing that “bargain” point-and-shoot camera that didn’t turn out to be such a bargain after all. ChoosingCOPYRIGHTED the Best Camera MATERIAL for the Job at Hand Whether you’ll be taking photographs at your daughter’s soccer game or trying to make a career out of sports photography, having the right camera for the situation will make all the difference. In the past, very few affordable cameras could capture action as well as the pro’s gear. However, today’s market is full of completely viable options, 003_9781118385302-ch01.indd3_9781118385302-ch01.indd 3 88/31/12/31/12 11:51:51 PMPM 4 Sports & Action Photography In A Day For Dummies from professional dSLRs (digital single-lens reflex), to compact point-and-shoots that you can take everywhere you go, to smartphones with surprisingly impressive cameras good for the candid shots on the go.

Sports Photography Equipment In professional Sports Photography it is not just having skill in taking a photograph it is also about having the right equipment. These were made by fitting a Graflex SLR with a long lens - 20" to 60" - and a suitable focusing mechanism. They shot 4x5 or 5x7, were quite heavy. One such camera made by Graflex is figured in the first edition of Graphic Graflex Photography. Another, used by the Fort Worth, Texas, Star-Telegram, can be seen at http://www.lurvely.com/photo/6176270759/FWST_Big_Bertha_Graflex/ and http://www.flickr.com/photos/21211119@N03/6176270759 Long lens SLRs that incorporate a Graflex are often called "Big Berthas" but the name isn’t applied consistently. For example, there’s a 4x5 Bertha in the George Eastman House collection (http://geh.org/fm/mees/htmlsrc/mG736700011_ful.html) identified as a "Little Bertha." "Big Bertha" has also been applied to regular production Graflexes, e.g., a 5x7 Press Graflex (http://www.mcmahanphoto.com/lc380.html ) and a 4x5 Graflex that I can’t identify (http://www.avlispub.com/garage/apollo_1_launch.htm). These cameras lack the usual Bertha attributes of long lens, usually but not always a telephoto, and rapid focusing.

  • Additional Information on 10Mm F5.6 OP-Fisheye Nikkor Lens
Additional Information on 10mm f5.6 OP-Fisheye Nikkor Lens 10mm f/5.6 OP FISHEYE-NIKKOR Originally introduced in 1968 and was discontinued eight years later in the mid of 1976. This is a highly specialized lens that offers unique orthographic projection (OP) characteristics producing a circular image of 180 degree . The image reproduced, however, is larger in the center and gradually becomes more compressed toward the periphery than the images produced by other Fisheye-Nikkors. To meet the exacting OP requirements, an aspherical front lens is employed. This projection formula provides a special configuration through which the luminance of a place is measured. When the light source is photographed with the OP Fisheye-Nikkor, the proportion of the image area of the light source to the total area represents the luminance or brightness of the place. This proportion is called the "configuration factor" or "sky factor" when the light source is the sky. This feature is effectively applied to architectural design, civic improvement, street lighting, fire safety studies and other specialized applications. The lens is also useful in advertising photography to emphasize the main subject by taking advantage of the OP characteristics. Another characteristic of the OP design is that subjects of the same brightness are reproduced with equal density, no matter where they are positioned in the picture. Therefore, even with the use of narrow latitude color film, uniform image brightness is obtained over the entire circular field. A fixed-focus lens, it requires the mirror to be in the "up" locked position before mounting. An accessory viewfinder, which can also be used on the 6mm f/5.6 Fisheye- Nikkor, is available.
