SONY Corporation Sony Smart Watch Smart Watch, Smart Watch 2 The first Smart Watch was introduced in 2012 , and on June 25th 2013 Sony released Smart Watch 2. Smart Watch is an Android-compatible watch that can exchange information with your Smart Phone, allows you to read SMS, emails and social network messages, and supports installable add-ons to extend Smart Watch functionality.

Connecte Device COOOO COOOO Cookoo watch started as a kick starter project. During a 45 funding period , the project raised $305,393 from 2560 backers. The project was started by Peter Hauser and the company behind this product Connecte Device Ltd, specializes in designing and developing technology products and services in the accessories field. Their first Smart Watch is called COOOO connected watch. Smart Watch was designed by award winner Xvier Houy. COOOO is a Bluetooth Smart Watch that can be customized using the COOOO APP on your Smart Phone. This allows the watch to show incoming calls, Facebook messages, Twitter tweets, and show you when you are low on battery on your iPhone or iPad device and remote control your iPhone camera as well. Smart Watch is compatible only with Apple devices, including the iPhone 5, iPhone 4S, iPad mini, iPad 3, iPad 4, iPod touch (5th generation). COOOO APP can be download via iTunes. Unlike many other Smart Watch, the watch does not recharge and run on a standard CR2032 Lithium battery. The company’s first COOOO Smart Watch won the A'DESIGN PLATINUM AWARD for 2013.

reyos reyos Meteor reyos Meteor reyos is another company that also wants its piece of pie in the S mart Watch industry. The company already raised $744,111 as for the time of writing. Their new Smart Watch dubbed "Meteor" will have Bluetooth, 1.26 inch LCD screen, will be compatible with iOS, Android and WP8, water resistant up to 5 meter, etc.

Pebble Technology Pebble E - Paper watch Pebble E - Paper watch for Phone and Android Started as a crowd funded project on kickstarter on April 11 2012 until May 18 2012. Search Strategy: Patent Database Search Using Key Words:

Methods that have been used to determine the ownership of essential Smart Watch Patents is to use the search engine features that are available for various patent databases. With this methodology the user types in a key word or phrase that theoretically wi ll produce a list of all patents that include that word somewhere within the patent. The underlying assumption with this approach is that a search using a key search word, such as “Smart Watch” , “Wearable Computer” , “Wrist Computer”, etc will produce a list of all essential patents that exist for the Smart Watch domain.

• Identify ey Words 1

• Prepare Search String 2

• Run Search String in Patent Database 3

• Extract Patents 4

• Add Patents based on the related Product/Technology 5

• Categorise based on Technology 6

37 IIPRD’s Landscape Research Snapshot – Smart Watch

Conclusion:

From the overall study, we can assimilate that there is a significant scope for Smart Watch Technologies as a means to provide smarter computing platforms. Time is not far away when Smart Watch would be found in every one’s wrist. In the coming years, every Electronic or Computer Device would be wirelessly connected to one or more Smart Watch to perform various tasks, including but not limited to, making calls, measuring medical conditions, transferring files, remotely monitoring one or more devices or processes, among other like functionalities.

Furthermore, if Smart Watch technology joins hands with nanotechnology and other applied developments in the field (few of which have been developed by Samsung through Galaxy Gear), we can expect tremendous growth with improved products in the space with features such as bendable phones, charging based on body heat, among other like functions. Due to the multipurpose nature of Smart Phones, a user can use the same device for different needs. Smart Watches also have capability to integrate forthcoming technologies into it. In the future, Nanotechnology can not only remove limited processing capability barrier but can also give new dimensions to portable Smart Watch technology in all aspects.

Even though there are few concerns including battery issues, comparing the benefits of a Smart Watch, the risks can be relatively calculated and thereby be controlled and managed. Once Smart Watch battery capacity barrier is solved by nanotechnology or its underlying technologies or solar power, there is bound to be a rapid growth in the field of Smart Watch.

Today, there is a need for smarter devices that can manage and adapt to different types of new end user devices/(s)/network system(s)/software application(s) over different type/roles of end user(s). Once these issues are resolved, there would be assured long term growth for Smart Watches.
