    United Nations Assistance Mission for Iraq (UNAMI) بعــثـــة اﻷمـــم المـتــحـــدة لمساعدة العــراق )يـــونــامي( Public Information Office Press Release UN Expresses Concern about Reports of Violence in Tuz Khurmatu, in Kirkuk Baghdad, Iraq, 19 October 2017 - The United Nations is concerned about reports regarding the destruction and looting of houses, businesses and political offices, and forced displacement of civilians, predominantly Kurds, from disputed areas. The United Nations has received allegations of the burning of about 150 houses in Tuz Khurmatu on 16 and 17 October, by armed groups. There were also allegations that up to 11 houses which reportedly belonged to Kurdish families and officials of Kurdish political parties were destroyed by explosives in the city. There were also reports of attacks against political offices of Turkmen parties in the Kirkuk Governorate. The United Nations takes note of Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi's acknowledgement of incidents caused by what he described as extremist elements from both sides and his decision to send the Iraqi army to restore order in Tuz Khurmatu, as well as the calls by the political and security leaderships of the country requesting federal and local security forces to ensure and act in full respect for law and order and protect civilians and political leaders.     IRAQ: MONTHLY PROTECTION UPDATE 28 May - 1 July 2018 PROTECTION HIGHLIGHTS: At least 2,258 families departed camps and informal settlements for their areas of origin and other locations. Many returns continue to be premature with many families who had tried to return home or relocate, returning to camps because they were unable to cope. Denial of return of families with perceived affiliations with extremists continue to be reported in Anbar, Kirkuk, Ninewa and Salah al-Din governorates. In addition, some facilitated returns left families in secondary displacement due to insufficient coordination with local security actors in the IDPs’ area of origin. Threats of forced evictions and relocations were reported in several camps and three informal settlements in Salah al-Din. Confiscation of legal documents to pressure families to return has also been reported on several occasions. Affected Population 3.8 million to their of origin while 2 million are still displaced in Center-South areas. The Government of Iraq (GOI) and the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) have generally relaxed enforcement of the stringent curfews and movement restrictions which have been in place for several weeks, although they are nominally still applicable. Partial lockdowns are currently in force in federal Iraq until 22 May, and in Kurdistan Region of Iraq until 18 May. The WHO and the Ministry of Health recommend maintenance of strict protective measures for all citizens to prevent a resurgence of new cases in the country. The humanitarian community in Iraq is committed to both act now to stem the impact of COVID-19 by protecting those most at risk in already vulnerable humanitarian contexts and continue to support existing humanitarian response plans, in increasingly challenging environments.
