It's quickly becoming evident, from the discussions with Michael Howe and Troy Carter, that the contents of the Vault are insanely rich and varied. Even beyond the hopes and dreams of Prince's mega fan base. What we are getting now are about one Deluxe edition releases of Prince albums, each with. 10 unrealeased/Vault tracks. as well as albums like ORGINALS, with 12-15 new/unrealsed versions of already released tracks. We still have Deluxe versions of such albums as FOR YOU, PRINCE, DIRTY MIND, CONTROVERSY, PARADE, SOTT, , D&Ps, TGE, etc., to look forward to. We haven't even scratched the surface, either, of his live shows, aftershows, sound checks, etc. Just this week, in reading THE BEAUTIFUL ONES (BUY IT, YA'LL!), that even now there are songs we didn't know about. Songs like BODYFREEZE from the FOR YOU sessions. and I JUST WANNA BE RICH from the PURPLE RAIN sessions. Given Prince's obsessive, careful nature, HE KEPT and CURATED EVERYTHING. The book shows this. His entire career. 1973 through 2016. We, his fans, and the general public, can look forward to spending decades learning and discovering more and more about this amazing and unique and dazzling person. You are right on the money. His surviving musical legacy will potentially be unparalleled. "Prince kept everything" That's why Bold Generation and his vocal tracks for associate songs are all sourced from cassette, right? "Prince kept everything" That's why Bold Generation and his vocal tracks for associate songs are all sourced from cassette, right? "Prince kept everything" That's why Bold Generation and his vocal tracks for associate songs are all sourced from cassette, right? Actually true. He recorded over all of that. Prince did keep everything! What he didn't keep were raw, unfinished versions of songs.. Example: Bold Generation. He worked and tinkered on it, and "recorded over it", until it became it's final vwersion- NEW POWER GENERATION. The earlier incarnations became what it eventually became. but Prince kept it! Actually true. He recorded over all of that. I think you need to go do a little reading. "Bold Generation" is the only one on "1999 Deluxe" that they had to source from cassette. Pretty amazing for the age of everything that they could source everything else from 2,1/2, & 1/4 inch tapes (or at least source good reference mixes from those tape sizes, I believe everything was remixed from 2" tapes). Same case with "Originals". Only real problem there, quality-wise, was an accidentally compressed version of "Wouldn't U Love To Love Me", an issue which likely occurred during the mastering process. That could've occurred due to it being partially sourced from cassette (but some creative editing to bring out the sound revealed it's still actually good quality). Otherwise, that compilation was all from 2" tapes and an original 1991 mixdown for "Love. Thy Will Be Done". Also, next time, broaden your response for a line like "Prince kept everything". Take soladeo1's post as a good hint why to do that next time. [Edited 10/31/19 12:27pm] Strive said: LoveGalore said: Not true. It is pretty clear from the cinematic remix that Nothing Compares 2 U was not from a cassette. It is pretty clear You're My Love is not from a cassette. Love Thy Will Be Done, Make-Up, Baby You're A Trip. Manic Monday is from a cassette. Wouldn't U Love 2 Love Me is from a cassette. 100 MPH is from a cassette. The rest is not and the estate has had their bluff on that called before - they answered it by releasing that remix. Edit: See post above mine for a better (ie accurate) response. [Edited 10/31/19 12:30pm] Nothing at all is evident. To me, I still think there's almost nothing left in the vault of new songs. I didnt get any prove of the opposite. Or do you call a (small) handful of new songs in those years 'evidence of abundance'?? People act like Prince was a grand archivist when the reality was he was a hoarder of things, in the literal sense - look at the police photos of Paisley, and was creating music quicker than he could properly store it. Shows and soundchecks were recorded for his personal critique then stored. Hard drives, tape boxes and USB sticks were scattered all over Paisley. (Who else laughed when they saw random Larry Graham tape boxes from the early 2000s in Studio B?) Who knows what non-climate controlled warehouse he jammed those thousands of cassette tapes in. Before the vault was created, he was taping over cassettes and giving them away. Original vocal tracks were, more often than not, discarded when songs were given away. There's reports of him destroying stuff or ordering the destruction of certain works in his later life. (Notice how photos of Owen were missing from his scrap book in The Beautiful Ones memoir? That should give you a clue.) Yes, there's a ton of stuff in the vault because he created a metric ton of stuff. The condition of those items has yet to be seen. Michael Howe has been open with the fact of them having to frankenstein things back together, in a respectful manner, or having to use less than perfect sources because they're the only ones that exist. Let the Estate "call my bluff" by releasing one of the later From The Soundboard or Eye Record soundboards without the very noticeable tape damage. What do you think Prince would've used to make that remix? And is your suggestion that between then and now, he somehow lost all trace of the song except for these cassette copies? If they really wanted to use cassette copies, they could've used the one that was leaked beforehand. Stop the madness. Vocal tracks, people. Not the entire song. (Although he did record over the Bold Generation master when he made New Power Generation) LoveGalore said: JorisE73 said: Why, some more knowledgeable people on this said that that remix was done in the 90's for Girl 6 for either in the movie or on the soundtrack, so it could easily have come from a cassette. Could be. I remember reading that some engineer of his said that he erased teh multi's or master of Sexy MF so if that is true he could have erased a lot more and maybe NC2U to, so who knows. Did he erase the master of 'Sexy MF' because he knew it is absolutely already perfected? love that tune. okay, .02 cents from the peanut gallery: Prince was not a 'hoarder' to call him that conjures the image of the reality TV sad people buried in their homes etc etc. Please. Prince was clean, immaculate organized sharp. In my opinion, the reason he did not 'burn or destroy' things in the vault if he truly did not want them released as is: If you've ever been broke, not born into money but literally needed to work any job you could get because you needed money, to have a locked vault of 'stuff' you could sell if you needed to, just in case. I'm sitting on a safe of bonds. I don't know the value of the bonds until I need to sell them, but it'll be money. Lastly, Jimmy Jam Terry Lewis the blues brothers disguised Jimmy says right here he offered to produce what's in the vault, and Prince nodded yes. First of May Remix. Warm up your cease and desists.
