Kim Lawson UNEARTHING FREEDOM WILL I WANT, WILL I WISH FOR ALL THE THINGS I SHOULD HAVE DONE: LONGING TO FINISH WHAT I ONLY JUST BEGUN? –”How Glory Goes” It is with extreme pride that BoHo Theatre presents its final production of our 2011/2012 Season, exploring the Bohemian Pillar of Freedom: Floyd Collins. On the surface, the story revolves around the attempts to free Floyd from his doom and the chaos of that venture. Yet the show also explores Floyd’s own spiritual and emotional freedom when fear and isolation give way to inner reflection. It is in the most extreme circumstances that the complexity of familial relationships are unearthed. Though the story tackles an enormous breadth of issues ranging from media exploitation to prejudice, its core is that of family. Floyd’s plight —trapped alone in a narrow and treacherous underground passageway— exposed much of society’s strengths and weaknesses, showing moments of both extreme greed and heroism. In their masterpiece, Tina Landau and Adam Guettel have chosen to contrast these broader social issues with the intimate family dynamics surrounding Floyd: their past, what binds them to one another, their weaknesses, and how—in the end—there is no greater source of both peace and pain than that of family. Guettel has woven moments of simplicity and serenity throughout an incredibly complicated and challenging score, just as Landau has blended the broader social messages with the intimate and heartfelt story of a family. These contrasts and challenges are what make Floyd Collins one of the most beloved pieces in musical theater today. Sincerely, Peter Marston Sullivan Artistic Director, BoHo Theatre PERFORMER BIOGRAPHIES (in alphabetical order) Sarah Bockel | NELLIE COLLINS Sarah is thrilled to be involved in Floyd Collins and for her debut with BoHo! BOHO THEATRE P.O. Box 409267, Chicago, IL, 60640 Office: (773) 791-2393 [email protected] FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE CONTACT: Kaela Altman, Executive Director August 19, 2013 [email protected] BOHO THEATRE DELIVERS CHILLING 10TH SEASON OPENER WITH VERONICA’S ROOM CHICAGO—BoHo Theatre kicks off its milestone 10th season with Ira Levin’s horror thriller Veronica’s Room at the Heartland Studio in Rogers Park. Running September 27th through October 27th, the play is a rarely-produced work from the acclaimed author of the novels Rosemary’s Baby, The Stepford Wives, and A Kiss Before Dying, as well as Deathtrap, which holds the record for Broadway’s longest running mystery play. Veronica’s Room represents the Bohemian Pillar of Freedom in BoHo’s 2013/2014 Season. THE PLAY “[Ira Levin] is the Swiss watchmaker of the suspense novel… he makes what the rest of us do look like those five-dollar watches you can buy in the discount drugstores.” -Stephen King, Danse Macabre This intimate thriller explores the thin line between fantasy and reality, and the lengths one is willing to go to find absolution. Students Susan and Larry find themselves enticed to an old New England mansion by its elderly caretakers in order to meet Cissie, the sole surviving member of the mansion’s family. They insist that Susan bears a striking resemblance to Cissie’s long-dead sister, Veronica. If Susan will agree to briefly impersonate Veronica, they believe it will comfort the dementia-afflicted Cissie and allow her to die in peace. But what begins as a simple errand of mercy quickly spirals into a nightmare cycle of guilt, sacrifice, and murder.

AUGUST 2016 WELCOME Welcome to the funny, unexpected, and delightfully off-kilter world of Meteor Shower. With this world premiere production, we’re thrilled to continue our ongoing relationship with the brilliant artist Steve Martin. The Globe’s production of Bright Star, Steve and Edie Brickell’s new musical that premiered here in 2014, transferred to Broadway earlier this year, where it was nominated for an impressive five Tony Awards, including Best Musical. Next season, the Globe will mount a major revival of Steve’s 1993 play Picasso at the Lapin Agile. We’re glad Steve has found a new artistic home here in San Diego. The Globe is an especially fitting place to premiere Meteor Shower because it is a DOUGLAS GATES California story. Set in Ojai in the 1990s, Managing Director Michael G. Murphy and Erna Finci Viterbi Artistic Director Barry Edelstein. the play examines a specific moment in the life of our state. It’s a theatrical snapshot of the mores and (kooky) ways of society in Southern California, and though it’s set in the past, it’s eminently recognizable to Californians today. It’s also a pleasure to welcome yet another artistic director of a major regional theatre here at the Globe. Gordon Edelstein is the Artistic Director of Long Wharf Theatre in Connecticut, the great company we’re partnering with to co-produce this show, and the fifth artistic director to helm a show at the Globe this year. And because we know you’re wondering: no, Gordon and Barry are not related, except in their devotion to the wonders of theatre.
