Eileen LaCario is the Founding Member and Vice President of Broadway In Chicago which brings over one million people into the Chicago theatre district each year. Eileen has launched six theatres in Chicago including Royal George, Halsted Theatre Center, Cadillac Palace, Oriental, Bank of America Theatres and, most recently, the Broadway Playhouse. Eileen served on Mayor Rahm Emanuel’s Arts and Culture Transition Team and is past chair of the League of Chicago Theatres. She now serves on the City of Chicago Cultural Advisory Council and Choose Chicago’s Cultural Tourism Commission. Doug Peck, Music Director, has won five Jeff Awards (Porgy and Bess; Caroline, or Change; Carousel; Fiorello;Man of La Mancha) and two After Dark Awards (Guys and Dolls, Hello Again). Four world premiere plays and two new adaptations seen first by Chicago audiences were among those receiving Jeff nominations by the Jeff Awards Committee. There are 179 nominations in 35 categories for Chicago Equity theatrical productions that opened between August 1, 2013 and July 31, 2014. In the Large Theatre category, Goodman Theatre's "Brigadoon" and Drury Lane Production's "LES MISERABLES" each garnered nine nominations.     Illinois Humanities | August 2020 GRANTEE SPOTLIGHT Three Questions: Q&A with Myrna Salazar, co-founder & executive director, Chicago Latino Theater Alliance (CLATA) Project “Destinos” 3 rd Annual Chicago International Latino Theater Festival Location Chicago, IL Organization Founded in 2016 through a new collaboration between the National Museum of Mexican Art, the International Latino Cultural Center, and the Puerto Rican Arts Alliance, CLATA aims to produce the country’s leading Latino theater festival (“Destinos”), to provide organizational and financial support for Chicago’s Latino theater groups, and to build a permanent home for Chicago’s Latino theater companies to thrive and grow. Project “Destinos” takes place at several venues throughout Chicago, with over 93 performances, 10 student matinees, 50 post-show discussions, 4 panel discussions, and 3 workshops. Last year the festival presented work by 5 local theatre companies, 3 national companies, and 3 international companies. Primary partnerships for last year’s festival included Aguijón Theatre Co., Repertorio Latino Theatre Co., Teatro Vista, Urban Theatre Co., and Water People Theatre, as well as Chicago Shakespeare Theatre, Goodman Theatre, and Steppenwolf Theatre. Running September 27th through October 27th, the play is a rarely-produced work from the acclaimed author of the novels Rosemary’s Baby, The Stepford Wives, and A Kiss Before Dying, as well as Deathtrap, which holds the record for Broadway’s longest running mystery play. Veronica’s Room represents the Bohemian Pillar of Freedom in BoHo’s 2013/2014 Season. THE PLAY “[Ira Levin] is the Swiss watchmaker of the suspense novel… he makes what the rest of us do look like those five-dollar watches you can buy in the discount drugstores.” -Stephen King, Danse Macabre This intimate thriller explores the thin line between fantasy and reality, and the lengths one is willing to go to find absolution. Students Susan and Larry find themselves enticed to an old New England mansion by its elderly caretakers in order to meet Cissie, the sole surviving member of the mansion’s family. They insist that Susan bears a striking resemblance to Cissie’s long-dead sister, Veronica. If Susan will agree to briefly impersonate Veronica, they believe it will comfort the dementia-afflicted Cissie and allow her to die in peace. But what begins as a simple errand of mercy quickly spirals into a nightmare cycle of guilt, sacrifice, and murder.
