I hope that all of you had a joyful and safe holiday season. I am looking forward to 2021 and remain cautiously optimistic that we'll be able to have a fun and exciting calendar of events during 2021. I expect that the club will continue to hold virtual meetings for the next few months, so look for announcements on the website with details about when the meetings will be held and remember to register to attend the membership meetings. Registering for the events online will automatically send you an email with all the details you need to attend the virtual meetings. We will also be keeping our options open to run social distancing drives when we expect that the weather might cooperate. Club meetings: We held our December general membership meeting on- line on Thursday, December 19th at 7PM. Thanks to Jo Anne and Dwain 3 TOC Knollman who attended with their Santa hats on and started a trend. I believe Kevin Wilson must has an extensive collection of hats as it seemed he had a new hat on every five minutes. It was great to see folks joining in with their hat collections and having a little holiday fun during our virtual meeting. The key new business item at the December general meeting was the review and approval of the 2021 membership dues structure. I am pleased to report that the membership approved the 2021 membership dues recommendations put forth by the board. The new dues structure has been implemented on the web site and we have opened up membership renewal on the site. We have already had several members complete their renewal on-line. If anyone has any issues renewing their membership, please contact Steve Yabroff or Alton Loe and they will be more than happy to help. The second major piece of new business at the December membership meeting was the presentation of the Frank Olsheski Award. The 2020 winner of the Frank Olsheski award is Alton Loe. Alton has been instrumental in helping the club navigate a challenging 2020 as we moved from in-person to virtual. He has spent countless hours building and maintaining our web site and helping the club adapt to quickly changing conditions during the past year. The website was nominated for a National Corvette Museum award and ending up taking 3rd place for best web site this year. Alton also helped the club design and plan our new social distancing drive series that has attracted over 200 cars this year to come out to enjoy the company of fellow Corvette enthusiasts and a social distancing drive in your Corvette. Thank you Alton for everything you do to help the club continue to be a vibrant organization. Events: Even in December we managed a couple of social distancing drives. First up was a drive on December 5th from the XXX Drive-In in Issaquah to Snohomish. I believe that day broke the temperature records for Seattle. I don't think we could have asked for better weather. There is nothing like a sunny warm day to bring out the Corvettes and we had 20 cars join us for the event. We had a couple of new C8 owners find the event on the website and join us for the drive that day. Both couples ended up joining the club leading to an exceptional month recruiting new members. Next up was a drive on December 23rd. Another sunny but much cooler day. We started the tour in Monroe and ended at the Tulalip Casino. We had 12 cars join the tour. The day started off cold and the first 20 miles through the backwoods of Monroe involved a bit more snow and ice on the road than we were expecting. I think we may christen that drive 4 TOC our Winter Wonderland cruise. The road conditions improved greatly after we reached Granite Falls and a few of us even dropped our convertible tops for the last 30 miles. It made me appreciate heated seats and heated steering wheel even more. Thanks to Kevin and Judy Jewell for organizing both drives. If we see additional opportunities and we can organize a social distancing drive, we will send out an all-member email with information about how to register for the event. Club elections: Our annual board of directors' elections are planned for the February membership meeting. Alton Loe has done a fantastic job recruiting members to run for a board position as well as fill key committee chair positions. First on the committee chair front I'm pleased to announce that Bruce and Lynn Boyd have agreed to take on the Membership role. Bruce and Lynn will be partnering with Steve Yabroff during this year's membership renewal process and will be taking on the role full time starting in April 2021. I want to thank Steve Yabroff for his many years of service to the club in the membership chair role. We have had a terrific year recruiting and retaining members and looking forward to continuing success in 2021 and beyond. Next, I'd like to announce that Dave Cayton will be taking on the Adopt-a-Highway role starting in 2021. Adopt-a-Highway is currently on pause, but we are optimistic that this activity will be restarted sometime in 2021. I'd like to thank Kevin Wilson for his many years of service leading Adopt-a-Highway. He often drives by the stretch of highway we maintain, and his assessment is that it still looks pretty good. I am sure that first clean-up is going to next a few extra bags of trash. Now on to the board of directors' positions. The following people have agreed to stand for election to the board of directors

A total of 50 Ghia-bodied Turbine Cars were built between 1963 and 1964, loaned to members of the general public, but never put into series production February 11, 2015, Toronto, Ont. - A 1963 Chrysler Turbine Car - one of the most famous vehicles in the rolling archive of FCA US LLC - has made the trip north for the 2015 Canadian International AutoShow (CIAS).     July-August 2016 www.superbirdclub.com email: [email protected] K & K Daytona Heads Back to Bonneville 45 years ago this month, the K & K Insurance team led by Harry Hyde with driver Bobby Isaac set 28 world speed records, some of which still stand. Over the summer NASCAR’s media group approached Tim Wellborn about bringing the #71 team Daytona back to the salt for some exhibition runs in September. With no small amount of concern about how the salt gets everywhere on these cars once they run, this is an unrepeatable opportunity and at the right time. Tim really wanted to do this project and began his homework on how to get the car cleaned up by talking to folks who have raced there in the past. Once Tim has a plan, a fresh set of Goodyear tires went on the K & K. Tim’s mechanic Daniel who maintains the car gave it fresh tune and on September 14th, the car was loaded on the Reliable Carriers semi for the trip west to Utah. The plan is to film the car over the weekend of Spetember 17th with some moderate speed passes and interviews. Kenny Troutt and Buddy Parrott, two of the surviving team members will be there to see it go down. I am sure there will not be a dry eye as the car remains very important to these guys. Published: 29th January 2016 Author: Dave Moss Online version: https://www.wheels-alive.co.uk/jet-powered-cars-a-fascinating-history-so-far/ www.wheels-alive.co.uk Retired and forgotten old lady now 66 – by Dave Moss Time to reflect on a story which began in 1941, when the Rover company received a wartime invitation to help make the experimental jet engines dreamed up by inventor Frank Whittle production-ready. Despite lacking experience in the field, Rover dutifully began work at sites in the midlands and northern England, but friction between the parties involved saw the entire project amicably handed to Rolls-Royce in 1943. In exchange, Rover gained their contract to build Merlin tank engines. Those two years of development effort must have provided food for thought, for, after the war, the company started work on scaling down gas turbine engines to suit cars. The project www.wheels-alive.co.uk began late in 1945, and despite post-war specialised material shortages, Rover’s first turbine engine ran in 1947. At least one unit was tested in a marine installation, but by 1949, a prototype car was under construction, using a much modified version of the recently introduced P4 saloon, later to become famous as “Auntie.” The prototype followed its basic style, but had two-door, open-top bodywork and a mid-mounted gas turbine: it was fittingly registered “JET 1” for road use. On March 9th 1950, this, the world’s first driveable gas turbine car, was presented to a slightly incredulous press, which hailed it as the ‘future of motoring.’ Rover cautioned that “…it could be four or five years before production vehicles reach the public..” Afterwards, behind the scenes, work to develop a practical road-going power unit began, leading to a moment of glory on June 26th 1952, when, on the Jabekke highway between Ostend and Brussels, JET 1 achieved a world record speed for its type, reaching 151.96 mph.

    Contact: Brandt Rosenbusch Chrysler Brand Heritage Chronology 1875-1912: Kansas-born Walter Chrysler, son of a locomotive engineer, was connected to the transportation industries throughout his life. His love of machinery prompted him to forsake a college education for a machinist’s apprenticeship, and his early career comprised numerous mechanical jobs in the railroad industry. 1912-1920: In 1912, Chrysler joined General Motors as manager of its Buick manufacturing plant, becoming president of the Buick division four years later. After parting ways with GM in 1919, Chrysler began a second career as a “doctor of ailing automakers,” strengthening first Willys-Overland, then the Maxwell Motor Corporation. 1920-1924: Chrysler teamed up with three ex-Studebaker engineers, Fred Zeder, Owen Skelton and Carl Breer, to design a revolutionary new car. They defined what the products of the Chrysler brand would be – affordable “luxury” vehicles known for innovative, top-flight engineering. 1924: The first was the 1924 Chrysler Six, an all-new car priced at $1,565 that featured two significant innovations – a light, powerful, high-compression six-cylinder engine and the first use of four-wheel hydraulic brakes in a moderately priced vehicle. The well-equipped Chrysler Six also featured aluminum pistons, replaceable oil and air filters, full- pressure lubrication, tubular front axles, shock absorbers and indirect interior lighting. 1925: After securing a $5,000,000 loan to start production, Chrysler sold over 32,000 units of the Chrysler Six in its first year. The Maxwell company soon had a new name: Chrysler Corporation. In 1925, the firm boasted more than 3, 800 dealers, sold over 100,000 cars and ranked fifth in the industry.
