The the Boston Modern Orchestra Project – the premier orchestra in the United States dedicated exclusively to commissioning, performing, and recording new orchestral music – will launch present its third and final concert in a brand new concert series to be cohosted by Tufts University. Entitled “Luminous NoiseBang Theory,” the program showcases the Bang on a Can founding composers David Lang, Julia Wolfe, and Michael Gordon, as well as Bang on a Can AllStars composer Evan Ziporyn. Works to be performed include David Lang’s Stick Figure (2001) and These Broken Wings (2008); Michael Gordon’s Acid Rain (1986) and Light of the Dark (2008); Julia Wolfe’s Singing in the Dead of Night (2008); and Evan Ziporyn’s BeIn (1991). of three renowned woman composers: Chen Yi, Judith Weir, and Jennifer Johnson. The program will open with Jennifer Johnson’s Living in Sin, followed by three works of Chen Yi – Suite for Cello and Chamber Winds (featuring David Russell, cello), Sparkle, and Wu Yu. The concert will close with Judith Weir’s Tiger under the Table. To learn more about BMOP, please visit www.bmop.org.
