How? When? What? SADIQ KHAN Term: 9 May 2016 MAYOR OF Salary: £146,804

The Mayor's role as the executive of London's strategic authority is to promote economic development and wealth creation, social development, and improvement of the environment. The Mayor also has various other duties in relation to culture and tourism, including responsibility for Trafalgar Square and Parliament Square. Sadiq is a big sports fan, especially football, boxing and cricket.

 Sadiq Khan was born in London and has lived here all his life.  His parents moved to London from Pakistan in the 1960s.  He was state-school educated in Tooting before studying Law at the University of North London.  He has a wife and two daughters.  Sadiq became a solicitor specialising in human rights  2005 he was elected MP for Tooting.  2008 appointed Minister of State for Communities and later became Minister of State for Transport  The first Muslim and the first Asian to attend Cabinet. He was also the Crossrail Minister.  2013 Sadiq was appointed Shadow Minister for London,  2015 he led the Labour Party campaign in London in the General Election.  2014 He ran the London Marathon, raising money for the Evening Standard's Fund. Thank you for you for organising the questionnaires in your school?

A network challenge… how many can we find? Here a few to get you started. Kate Blanchett, Tony Blair, Helena Bonham-Carter, Heath Ledger, Emma Watson, Neve Campbell, James McAvoy, George Orwell, of 1984 fame, lived in both Lawford Road and Canonbury Square Natalie Cassidy from EastEnders has a home here. She went to Hanover school. Gary and Martin Kemp, the guys from Spandau Ballet, were born and raised in Islington…as was Tony Hadley, lead singer in the band Edmund Halley, Astronomer Royal and the chap who first discovered Halley’s Comet, was a resident from 1865. , No.13 on the The Times list of the 50 greatest British authors since 1945, lived in these parts for some time Yusuf , better known to most as Cat Stevens, called Islington home….
