Let us enlighten you about the new Yusuf album Roadsinger hits stores 5/5, “Thinking ‘Bout You” featuring James Morrison going for adds now With his reintroduction to the pop world behind him, renowned singer-songwriter Yusuf (the artist known as Cat Stevens) is ready to once again strike up an intimate relationship with his audience. After retreating from the pop stage following classic ‘70s multi-platinum albums such as Tea For The Tillerman and Teaser And The Firecat and acclaimed hits such as “Wild World,” “Peace Train,” “Moonshadow,” “Morning Has Broken” and “Father And Son,” Yusuf returned in late 2006 with his first pop album in 28 years. Now a second album, Roadsinger (To Warm You Through The Night), is set to be released May 5, with the single “Thinking ‘Bout You” featuring vocals by James Morrison. “I was absent from my audience for so long,” Yusuf says, “people thought another album would never come. The 2006 album, An Other Cup, was a surprise. With this new album, the distance is much less. I’m back to doing what I do best — painting pictures with music and storytelling on a very human, personal, intuitive level through lyrics and song, so I can help people feel good again. I guess in some ways the new album picks up where the Cat Stevens the public knows left off.” The album, Roadsinger, was produced by the now singularly named Yusuf with help from Martin Terefe (James Morrison, Jason Mraz, Martha Wainwright), and recorded around the world. Guests include James Morrison, Michelle Branch, and Holly Williams (granddaughter of Hank Williams, Sr.). “The new album is a response to the way An Other Cup was received,” Yusuf explains. “Fans said they wanted to hear more of me with a guitar. So, this album is much more folk-tale oriented. Also, apart from one track, all of it was recorded live. I listened to a lot of’ ’70s L.A. music, such as Joni Mitchell, James Taylor, Carole King, and it inspired me to go back into that intimate style of recording. The songs are somewhat autobiographical but abstract enough so everyone can relate to them and connect them to their own lives.” The forthcoming album also showcases some songs from his upcoming musical “Moonshadow.” The story takes place on a planet of perpetual night where only the moon’s shine lights the darkness; it is about a boy’s meeting with his Moonshadow and the adventures they share in search for the a world of the sunlight and happiness. As well as having many new songs, the surrealistic musical, “Moonshadow” also weaves classic songs from his past, including ‘Morning Has Broken’, ‘Wild World’ and The First Cut Is The Deepest.” The show debuts in the UK in July. With a string of hit records and sold-out concerts he rocketed to superstardom. His album `Tea For The Tillerman´ is considered to be one of the best of its genre and his name is still a household word. So what happened to him? Why did he leave pop stardom behind? What is he doing now? Cat Stevens was born Stephen Demetre Georgiou on lyJu 21st, 1948 to a Greek Cypriot father and Swedish mother. In the late 60's he had a string of hit records in the UK and he later repeated his success throughout the world with a number of top selling albums including "Tea For The Tillerman" and "Teaser And The Firecat." In 1977 Cat Stevens embraced Islam and became a Muslim. Two years later he changed his name to Yusuf Islam and left the music business as Cat Stevens forever. Why did he become a Muslim? In the late 70's Cat was introduced to Islam by hisbrother David Gordon, who gave him a copy of the Qur'an -the holy book of the Muslims. Cat was immediately impressed by the religion and ultimately adopted it. He later changed his name to Yusuf Islam. He stopped making music because he felt that the life of a pop star was incompatible with the life of a Muslim.

FREYERMUTH 2010 Abstract Nina Simone was a prominent jazz musician of the late 1950s and 60s. Beyond her fame as a jazz musician, Nina Simone reached even greater status as a civil rights activist. Her music spoke to the hearts of hundreds of thousands in the black community who were struggling to rise above their status as a second-class citizen. Simone’s powerful anthems were a reminder that change was going to come. Nina Simone’s musical interpretation and approach was very unique because of her background as a classical pianist. Nina’s untrained vocal chops were a perfect blend of rough growl and smooth straight-tone, which provided an unquestionable feeling of heartache to the songs in her repertoire. Simone also had a knack for word painting, and the emotional climax in her songs is absolutely stunning. Nina Simone did not have a typical jazz style. Critics often described her as a “jazz-and-something-else-singer.” She moved effortlessly through genres, including gospel, blues, jazz, folk, classical, and even European classical. Probably her biggest mark, however, was on the genre of protest songs. Simone was one of the most outspoken and influential musicians throughout the civil rights movement. Her music spoke to the hundreds of thousands of African American men and women fighting for their rights during the 1960s.
