The work includes a key to all the families of Curculionoidea in North America, as well as keys to all genera and species of the families included. Each genus is described. Species entries include a list of synonyms, a description, data on distribution, information on host plants and on other aspects of biolory (if known), and diagnostic features. Distribution maps and illustrations of taxonomic characters for a number of species are included, as well as habitus illustrations of representative species. Acknowledgments Several individuals contributed to the preparation of this volume. To all those listed below I express my thanks. The excellent habitus illustrations were prepared by Mr. Claude Paquette and the line drawings were completed by Mr. Go Sato, both staff artists, Centre for Land and Biological Resources Research. Jason R. Bright helped to complete the distribution maps. Drs. E. C. Becker, Y. Bousquet, PT. Dang, and A. Smetana, Centre for Land and Biological Resources Research, reviewed an early draft of the manuscript. The final manuscript was reviewed by Drs. R.A. Anderson and H.R. Burke, both at the Department of Entomolory, Texas A & M University, College Station, Tex., and by Dr. WE. Clark, Department of Entomolory, Auburn University, Auburn, Ala. Mr. Robert Skidmore assisted in many ways and his help is gratefully acknowledged. The manuscript was greatly improved by their comments. Ms. Frances Smith, Research Program Service, Agriculture Canada, edited and prepared this work for publication. Her skillful editing and her patient, capable, and amiable way of dealing with an obstinate author are much appreciated. During the course of my studies on Canadian weevils, I examined numerous specimens from various regional laboratories of the Canadian Forestry Service and Agriculture Canada.
