5 Summary 11Ie tradition ofthe electric driven automobile is more than 100 years old. At the beginning of the 20th century the electric vehicle has represented a widespread U.S.~American transpOli mean. 8ut today's world inventory share is near the "detectability limit" and only to be found in the per mille sector. Electric vehicles have actually no mentionable impOliance on the roads, but neveliheless they are playing a more and more interesting role in the discussions about the future ofthe motorised individual trafik within the metropolitan areas ofthe industrial nations. The main impoliant initiatives for the world~wide implementation of technical instruments to reduce the emissions of road~traffic were stalied several decades ago by the U.S.~Califol11ian transpOli~ and environment~authorities. Nowadays the introductioll and the establishment of electIic vehicles is an impOliant target of the exhaust~reduction~effOlis of the State of Califoll1ia. The Califomian way (staliillg 1990, modification 1996) and its trallsferability are discussed world-wide. Electric vehic1es were explored, fUliher developed, proved, balanced and assessed in several intemational R&D~projects. nIe results differ according to the locations, the viewpoints, the interests and the political will ofthe patiicipant actors. Adefinite decision about the pro 01' con of the electric vehicle is still not possible. For this reaSOll, the conc1usions ofthe debating countties are velY different. While in some nations, like in several U. S. States, in Japan, in France 01' in Switzerland the inset of electric vehicles is supp01ied, in some others, like in Germany 01' in Austria, a restrained opinion is to be diagnosed. nIe reason and the celltral disputing~point can be found in the differential assessment of the ecological balance and the efficieney~degree of the electtic vehic1es' use. But although their calculations are velY eonscientious, the opponents of the electtic vehicle often neglect one impoliant aspect within their estimations. 1t is the fact, that the use ofan electric vehicle causes changes ofthe user's road perfonnance and ofhis mobility behaviour. The usage ofthe electrie vehic1es produces leal11ing~effects, which make the user more sensible towards the problems of road-traffie, towards the handling with ellergy, towards the use of his oftel1 still existing conventional second-car and towards his general mobility behaviour. This leads in tendeney to a more careihl and well-considered use ofthe individual transpoli mean automobile. The teehnical conditiolled limitations of the electric vehicles are mainly accepted. Hut no acceptallce can be found according to the quality- and the processing-standards of the cars. nIe vehicles prove, fi'om the point ofview of their users, to be evelyday-suitable automobiles and for that occasions they are used. Electric vehicles are no fun-mobiles. By their defensive road performance the conductors raise the safety ofthe road~traffic. It is shown, that because ofthe technicallitnitations ofthe electric vehicles and because ofthe individual experiences of the users and their mobility~behavioural~changes, the gettillg into new, different transport means integrating mobility-structul'es ean be possible. To consider these facts is an itnpOliant task ofthe future evaluation work. nIe electric vehicle's position is nowadays not strong ellough for a self-developmellt without any suppoli. The electric vehicle is still in lleed of the assistance of all protagollists. In this process, the experiences ofthe users should be taken more and more into account. Come~on to-market subsidies, accompanied by utilisation analysis, should be the main emphasis offuture projects. The c01upetent and potent automobil industIy has to be put in the duty, to offer electtic vehicles with a high and above all stable quality standard. A right and approved way to reach the targets will be to stimulate the competition between the mallufacturers. 6 1 Objectives TIle project "Consmner User Patterns of Electric Vehicles" aimed to undmtake a secondalY analysis ofpilot studies fi'om • Austria, @ France, • Gennally, ® NOlwayand GI Switzerland focusing the questions how are electric cars actually utilised by the consumers and how are the future potentials of e1ectric vehicles assessed to become a key element in a new mobility policy of the European Community. Corporate Communications CNH Industrial bus brand, Heuliez Bus, wins a major tender from the Paris public transport operator, RATP, thanks to its leadership in hybrid technologies The Paris, France transport operator, RATP (Régie Autonome des Transports Parisiens) recently launched a major European multi-year tender (2014-2017) for a contract for some 1,000 standard 12-metre hybrid and gas citybuses. Basildon, May 6, 2014 RATP, the Parisian public transport operator, has just awarded one of four tender lots to supply hybrid electric buses to Heuliez Bus, a French premium citybus specialist brand and hybrid bus pioneer, a brand of CNH Industrial. This is the first time in its history that Heuliez Bus has won a major tender from RATP with its GX 337 HYB model. This rewards the efforts of the company, which has pioneered the development of the hybrid bus market in France and continental Europe. These buses will be equipped with the ‘Arrive & Go’ function, which allows for arrivals and departures to be made in 100% electric mode from bus stops, offering a 5% reduction in fuel consumption. This is an innovative technology which represents a major evolution, from hybrid bus to full electric. Constant and smooth acceleration has significantly improved passenger and driver comfort and reduced noise levels benefit both passengers and local residents. To date, Heuliez Bus has delivered more than 165 hybrid buses, including 16 articulated buses for RATP, which have covered over nine million kilometres. The largest hybrid fleet in Europe operates in Dijon, France, with 102 standard 12m GX 327 HYB and articulated 18m GX 427 HYB buses.
